Perfect choice, in at the deep end with probably the "weirdest" thing they did as a promo video. This was many people's first exposure to them on national TV in the UK and it polarised thousands of people. Musically yes, every single note is planned and scored out to the nth degree, and they could happily repeat all their material live, the calibre of various musicians in this band over the years was astounding. Tim has been compared to Frank Zappa many times for many reasons, all positive. Please don't think all their material is like this though, they were constantly evolving. "Tarred And Feathered" is relatively early in their canon. Try some material from their 1996 album "Sing To God" next, The double-hit of "Bell Stinks/Bell Clinks", the epic fan favourite "Dirty Boy" or the single "Manhoo" are three very different takes on their later sound, it might start to make more sense then!

@@frankie12100 I've heard it said that Cardiacs were blacklisted by the music industry, that's part of why. Like how they headlined one gig, and got *no press whatsoever* about it. Hearing The Cardiacs for the first time is much like Mike Tyson smacking you down with an overhand right, then pulling you back to your feet with a friendly wedgie.
For another vaguely similar band, try, The Very Things, the place to start is probably, The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes.

I miss the 80s. That was recorded live on air on a regional kid's TV show. It's depressing to think strange acts like this lot, Iggy Pop, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Frank Sidebottom, Pop Will Eat Itself and Napalm Death would be given airtime on such shows when these days the kids are lucky to get the latest Taylor Swift video.

Thinking the song was maybe how the 'me' sees as a 'tarred together' layer cake through the senses rather than an open holistic awareness of arisings and passings. Once you notice that this song gives great insight.

I first came across them years ago and found that they were, different, to say the least. but I think all genres should be given a chance.
My other request (a few posts a go) was Alan Parsons Project : Old and Wise. Now this is a lovely song.. Absolutely nothing like this at all.
