Very good Video, thank you so much! I purchased the X-6100 a few weeks a go and have made contacts on 20 meters. I received a 5 x 5 from a station 1300 miles away. So I was quite impressed. I have attached it to an external power supply but did not get it above 6 watts. I also loaded the latest firmware. Someone mentioned the speaker, the speaker does have a noise at higher volume. It’s like something is loose and it ‘vibrates’ I had more success with headphones. For the price it is a good radio.
Thanks for sharing David. I only had the sample for a few days that the factory sent to me. Our production stock is on its way. Did not notice tge problems you described. 73 Peter
Aren’t we all in a lucky position with so many portable rigs to choose from. This looks to be a real challenger and good value for money rig. Not seen anything yet to temp me away from my KX3, still think it will have to be surgically removed even though the IC705 is next generation and has a lot going for it. Thanks for a great vid Peter (again). 👍🏻
Hi Mike. Yes I still have my KX3 and Kx2. Both quite old now, but superb performers. With internal ATUs they do most things I need. Thanks for your support. 73 Peter
Hi Peter excellent Video , the sd card is used for firmware update , if you leave the sd card in the radio it will use the SD Card to boot from which is quite handy as you can make bespoke versions, voice and CW recordings are stored on the radio the wifi at the moment is used to access the Linux system for alterations you can also do this via the host usb c port, the cover on the left is covering a space left to allow wifi signal to escape the blue tooth will work on a mouse and keyboard but no audio for speaker or headphones there is a CW training mode (BK off) and the radios decodes BPSK ,CW ,RTTY and will TX, to the right of the s meter there is also a SWR Meter there is an important note that you need to full charge and discharge the radio 4 times before first use if you want the battery operation optimised , its a very neat radio for the price point and the best firmware at the moment is 1.1.2.
Great review Peter, I bought one in May 2022 with the latest software. Love the radio, the build quality is first rate and the screen fantastic. I have also owned an IC705 that I was always nervous of taking portable due to the size and cost. Both great radios nevertheless
I bought one just to exercise the brain 🙃. HI HI Pushing 78 years old and I want to get rid of all my out of date equipment. So much to learn HI HI. Thanks for sharing. 73 Leo k
Thank you Peter for an excellent and comprehensive “hands on” review of the Xiegu X6100 👍! You covered many of the features, and how to access them, that have been passed over by many previous reviews on TH-cam. 73 de Dan WD4DB

Hi Peter! Nice video. Im back into radio after almost 30 years. Im going to visit London in october. Do you have physical store in London? 73 From Brazil. Gabriel
Thank you for the excellent video, I bought one of these radios and am waiting for them to arrive, I like portable operation and QRP and I believe this equipment will be ideal. 73 PU3WWV.
Ive got a 705 and im goin to order a x6100 this week due to the 705 being too big at times qhere the 6100 is a nice quick grab n go size where here in vk its hard to get the right size hardcase for a 705
@@watersstanton neither wifi nor bluetooth are up to the task yet....very inadequate antenna placement is the main issue as it's a practical faraday cage
I will not consider buying one f these radios for at least six months. Xiegu has released an alpha-level project, not a real product. When it shipped, many of the advertised features simply did not work. They have been fixing things gradually with a long series of firmware updates that have come out very close together. It's almost as though the product is still in a mid-develoment stage. Buying one of these is like buying a lottery ticket: The features may be delivered in working form eventually, and they may not. Buying the first release of any product always carries a certain amount of risk, but this is well beyond that.
I love my 705. I believe Icom could have done a better job designing the radio to be smaller and I feel not having an atu is a bit of a disappointment. But I believe it is the best over all qrp radio. I don’t see the Chinese rigs lasting long before they burn up.
Built in ATU, built in battery, compact size and half the price of the competition. Looks like a winner to me.
Yes it does gave a big price advantage. 73 Peter

Very good review, thank you. I purchased the TX-500 based on your review of it, and have been very pleased.

Is it important to load all updates in release order, or can you skip one and only load the latest? IOW are they cumulative?
Thank you! Very nice and detailed! You should play some blues leaks on the air 😀! Radiant family behind you! Is the left plane a spitfire? Cheers!
Nice video and well balanced comments. Thanks

Just to the left of the Tick on the menu there is a plus and minus buttons. I thought they would adjust the selected item up or down.
They do but so does the multi knob, which I found easier. 73 Peter
Can’t wait until you get more stock of these radios 27/03/24
I understand the X-6100 has a WiFi feature. Did you evaluate that?
It has wi-fi and Bluetooth. However, the User Manual did not cover this so I did not investigate this aspect. Sorry. Peter

Awesome side-by-side comparison with the IC-705 and its ilk, thank you. The Xiegu is a less expensive & tasty alternative indeed…cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Hmm, x6100 shows spurs on the display!…. My guess even if you terminate the bnc aerial socket, these will still show.
Internally generated then😏
Can’t check as radio was on loan.

@@RobBob555 not at all. I have several usdx rigs. But honestly, I don’t see them have the longevity of an Icom or Yaesu.
