    James harden does not get enough credit for changing the game. Prior to harden most combo guards were hyper athletic like baron davis, Derrick rose, Westbrook and wall. Now teams are looking for the next James harden with the rise of the analytics era. Luka doncic would not have gone top 3 without the success of harden in Houston. And most gms prefer Luka over trae young, not even 10 yrs ago would a nba team have chosen to keep a slow nba player like Luka over the high flyer Dennis Smith jr. harden changed the game

    You also have to be able to pull up and drain 3's like Harden too, thats the only way blow by's like this actually work. Making your defender guess and gamble on what they think you're going to do, shoot or drive, you have to be able to rely on both to make it work. That's why it works so well for Harden, he pulls up and hits at a high clip and thats why its dangerous to gamble and let Harden pull up, because of that his defender is forced to close out & he's able to blow past his defenders whenever he wants.

      Sebadiah23 like Harden or not, he's one of the best creators of offense i've ever seen in the history of the game. I'd even put him up there with MJ, Kobe, and KD in being a top all-time offensive player, what's even more crazy is that he's not even that athletic, he doesn't have that freak athleticism most all-time great players have and is yet still relatively comparable to them

    Great breakdown. Appreciate the insights regarding both player and defense weight and physics... It's fascinating how because the defender plants his left foot (a seemingly correct reaction to the left-right dribble), it actually slows his weight transfer to prevent the right side drive, providing the initial advantage.

    James Harden is the master of Ioslation plays.

  • @Spenwrath-
    @Spenwrath- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is great stuff coach Nick! It's TRUE James Hardens dribble package at the top of the arc there is very difficult to guard. Strong hand drive, cross over drive, and step back 3 is all so natural out of this. My problem right now is I'm more comfortable doing this out of my left hand but I'm a right hand shooter.

    • @Sebadiah23
      @Sebadiah23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spenwrath I’ve always felt like Harden’s moves always have a specific goal in mind, compared to Chris Paul or Kyrie who often fancy dribble with seemingly no agenda, so the takeaway of the video to me is to have an agenda, but also play to your strengths, so in your case you’d focus on the quick fake right, fake left, drive right “double juke” maneuver that ends with a right handed drive. GL.

    • @Spenwrath-
      @Spenwrath- 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sebadiah23 yeah! I took away the same thing! James moves are calculated and takes advantage of the defence position. My straight line drive is better out of left hand but I'm a right shooter. So I dont do the dribble package as smooth but I do it with different footwork. Almost unatural. But yeah. Will practice what you said

    I think it’s much simpler, harden waits until the defender wither relaxes or moves forward. Then just relies on his reaction timing. He dribbles for so long because he has to time it, he can’t do it on command. Of course he also has to wait for the defender which is the biggest factor on when he’s going to take off. Defenders move forward but harden isn’t ready yet so he wait until the timing is right.

Juking players in iso (for an open shot or drive), and then, when driving, finding the best angle to finish in traffic without getting blocked (or drawing a foul) , was THE thing that made him elite. He was constantly swishing drives high off the glass at wacky angles. Tremendous variety. You have to see the similarities there with Harden, on a macro level, of having a balanced approach that kept defenders guessing.

      darkrainne 679 I’m usually against lebron on most things and think he’s barely top 10 all time but he deserved it over harden by a lot the only thing harden did better was more ppg and rockets won more games

    you showed it in the jordan bell play but you didn't highlight using the off arm to pin down an already handcuffed defender. or the elbow in the side of the already handcuffed defender. all the techniques in the video were great though
