I would be ecstatic if other youtubers took just 1% of your video making habits: articulate, brevity, content explained from the ground up with no jargon, no drawn out introduction, no constant 'ummmms'. We would then have an immensely highly quality set of content for ppl searching for answers for their hobbies.
Excellent summation of the basic Arduino hardware. I've got to say, after listening to "Making It" I've learned a greater respect for content creators like yourself, and am invariably intrigued by the TH-cam community. Because at its best TH-cam is a community of like minded people supporting(hopefully) each other. Keep up the excellent work Bob, you and others like you are truly an inspiration.
Bob, this is not a dig or a put down toward you. It is my brain level at work. I watched it and it sounded like the Peanuts teacher talking to me. thanks for sharing.
Raspberry Pi was tough enough for me to grasp, I don't know if I can tackle an Arduino - but I feel like I have a better understanding now. Keep up the good work, Bob.
Really good job! I saw Arduino for a very first time today in the shop. HAD NO CLUE WHATSOEVER. Found your video and got exactly what my mind needed. Cheers Mate
Bob, I would have loved to had this short sweet and to the point video about the uno when I first got it! better late than never they say. thank you sir!
I wish I had seen this video before a course about arduino programming in our school. You explained the basics lot better than our teacher :) Can't wait to see your next video about arduino
I am already experienced in using Arduino, but this is an awesome video that makes something that looked intimidating be understandable and simple, and I think it will help some people who are just getting started. Thanks for all of the great content, and keep it up!
You missed 1 thing: Arduino (an italian company) is not the microcontroller but it is the board. The uC is an Atmel (in the case of UNO). Every single student, here in Italy, coming from an electronic formation, knows everything about this board. However, you have introduced the product very well. Thanks for covering some electronic topics also! xD
Nicely timed video - I just opened one of the boxes I got as part of my X-Carve kit with one of these in it. Bolts, screws, belts and pulley I understand but that little packed intimidated me a bit.
I love this channel. You're very smart and concise. Plus, you always have something interesting to talk about that doesn't just stick to woodworking. Which, as an upcoming maker, I really appreciate. Keep posting. I'll keep watching, and thank you.
amazing Bob i love your videos ! keep like that, i'm working with arduino in school right now and for my final school project i will use the arduino uno on a RGB Strip to make a "infinite" table effect, and i learn more about the arduino with your video ! it helps alot really appreciate it !
Very good explanation of the subject with language that is easy to understand. Thank you, this has been something that had me confused about because most other videos assume that we all already know what this is.
Thanks for posting this, and for the simple explanation. I would really like to learn how to use, setup, and integrate some electronics around the house, just for fun, with my kids. Circuit boards, processors, all of that, intimidate the heck out of me though. Watching this makes it seem much less intimidating, so thank you. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your videos on the subject. Keep up the awesome work!
Just want to say that I am a huge fan of your work! Thanks for all the great content you produce! Would love to understand more about electronics and their practical use in everyday life! Looking forward to the next video.
I use the arduino for my electronic projects and just wanted to say that you did a great job with explaining what it is. Looking forward to seeing your vids on writing code for it. you explain things extremely well.
Great video Bob! I think this video should help out those just getting started. Your on screen animations definitely helped drive home the point. I've worked with Ubiquiti's MFI line up, which isn't Arduino, but has similar behavior. I already have an understanding of the hardware so I am looking forward to seeing your programming Maker 101 video.
This was step #1 for me! I'm highly interested in this arduino-stuff and your video gives me the first simple understandable information I need for further projects I'm planing to do, so a big thank you for that! 👍
I am smarter now. :) Thanks for posting this, I thought I knew something about Arduino but it make a whole lot more sense now! Looking forward to the coding video!
Bob, thanks for doing this and I hope you do more. Yes, there is a lot of I formation out there, to much information for use newbies to sort through. It would be great having your guidance in navigating all that information. I saw your blast gate video a long time ago but had no idea how to do the Arduino part. I'd love to play with this stuff as my son is learning robotics in his school. Thanks again, Scott
Amazing. I was a little impressed to see everything I need to know before starting with my new Arduino. I watched few video on your channel and you have simplified so much things... Thank you so much!
Holy fuck. You know that feeling when you've been wondering about something and then you happen to find a resource (such as a TH-cam video) of that thing that just lays the whole thing out at your feet in little words that it's easy to get and your super excited to the learn and start using the stuff and doing new things?I just got that feeling! I love that feeling! Thanks!
So excited to see you get into more electronics stuff!! This stuff was your passion before all the woodworking and other stuff, right? Now that you've got a nice breadth of experience, I'm looking forward to see what you make!
Great intro Bob. I'm looking forward to your follow-up videos on Arduino projects and shields. I have the Arduino starter kit that I have worked with but a friend of mine wants me to try the Raspberry Pi. I would love to hear your comparison of the two and why you would choose one over the other. Thanks for sharing.
I have been looking at the arduinos to use around the place but just no time to dive in. i feel much better about trying them if you keep putting out videos like this about them. Thanks!!!
Can't make stuff yet (small apartment), but i really like to watch you work. For some reason the name of my grandfather is Arduino. Than my parents thought it was a good idea to add that to my name. But it is fun. Bruno Arduino Cassol Salutations from Brazil
Thanks for the great overview Bob! Up until now my only exposure to an Arduino was unit that came with my X-Carve. Now that I've watched your overview video, I'm ready to jump in and make some amazing stuff!
Arduino is easy way in to Micro controllers. An Uno with shield a pair of MEGA 2560's and random components from Hall sensors to PIR sensors, resistors caps oh my fun. Just don't burn none! We have a Snap Kit's ELECTRONICS 303 for fun too. Kids love to build with it and make simple circuits, no programming needed! Great work as always.
Nice video! Looking forward to the video about the coding basics. Planning to take up fiddling with the arduino for a little project myself (counting and logging the ticking sound of my beer fermenter's water seal).
Good introductory video, just nitpicking a bit, what Arduino does are development boards (and there were a bunch of them before Arduino), the microcontroller itself in an UNO is an ATmega328P, which can be bought and programmed independently from the Arduino Dev.
Just found your videos today. Amazed. Just looking for good places to get the knowledge to understand what all you are talking about. Feels like you are a machinist, IT, carpenter etc. Did you have formal schooling/ job experience in those areas?
Thanks for another great video! I've heard so much about Arduino, but didn't really have a clue what it was. It's nice to get the basics and inspiring to think about how I could use these in the future. Hope I get a chance to play around with them sometime.
Hey Bob! Great video man. I was just introduced to Arduino for a project i was working on, however i am having struggles with the breadboard wiring. If you could make a video introducing the basics of breadboards used to connect Arduinos to the different outputs and different inputs, THAT WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP!!! Keep up the outstanding work.
Great video Bob! It has really cleared a lot of things up for me. Can't wait for the next Arduino videos, they've always interested me but I've also always found them confusing.
thank you. you make programming easy to understand which is hard to find. I'm interested in using them, but I can't sit through more than 5 minutes of most videos.
Great info Bob! Great for those that want to get into some tech/electronics, but have had limited exposure. I have a Raspberry Pi I bought a while back and still have to break out and play around with it. - Jim
+I Like To Make Stuff Very few people can actually explain technology by using simple language to cover the basics while weeding out the clutter in a way that would be practically useful. You can. Nice job.
do you live in america? if so what your opinion on the presidential race? I'm studying US politics at my university in London and we were asked to get some opinions from people who live in america! if you don't i apologise but i remembered in one of your videos you mentioned an american state
You definitely should do more videos about Arduinos. Your videos are very complete and good looking I'd appreciate to have them as tutorials for Arduinos. BTW I'd suggest you to make similar videos about Raspberry I think your audience would love it. Cheers
I hope you could demonstrate more arduino related project. I'm about to make my thesis and this video is helpful for me as a beginner. i'm sure your future arduino project will be helpful as well ^^ God bless you and thank you
Great video Bob!! I don't have an interest in micro-controllers, but I also am open to using them if the need arises (which at this point other than remote dust collection controller very unlikely). You really explained that well and I see this video as a great jumping off point should the desire to use them come up !! Thanks again for the entertaining and very informative content you always bring to your videos
on older computers you can use the serial or parallel port as input and outputs(which is pretty easy in python), but most newer computers havn´t got these ports.
I would be ecstatic if other youtubers took just 1% of your video making habits: articulate, brevity, content explained from the ground up with no jargon, no drawn out introduction, no constant 'ummmms'. +Sal Oriti Wow, thank you Sal! I really appreciate that!
Takes a lot of effort, not as easy as it sounds

Keep up the excellent work Bob, you and others like you are truly an inspiration.
In my opinion, this is the MOST simple and efficient explanation about Arduino between the ones that I searched for untill now.
I’ve been researching this for almost a year, and this is the best video on the subject I’ve found. Thanks!
Your explanation was much appreciated. Looking forward to the rest of this series you have a very good instinct when it comes to explaining stuff.
+Dan The Maker Man Thank you!!
Bob, this is not a dig or a put down toward you. It is my brain level at work. I watched it and it sounded like the Peanuts teacher talking to me. thanks for sharing.
Love it. I asked to a lot of people what Arduino can do and even in the Arduino site the answer is a little vague.
This video explains a lot.
Thanks Bob! I've been hesitant to get into arduino but this video just opened the door a little more!
Raspberry Pi was tough enough for me to grasp, I don't know if I can tackle an Arduino - but I feel like I have a better understanding now. Keep up the good work, Bob.
+Andrew Setters The Pi is the big brother! If you understand it, the Arduino is a piece of cake!
Nice camera work! The colors are really accurate, and the picture is really sharp. And the content is very informative too. Thanks!
I am already experienced in using Arduino, but this is an awesome video that makes something that looked intimidating be understandable and simple, and I think it will help some people who are just getting started. Thanks for all of the great content, and keep it up!

Thanks, best explanation I've heard thus far.
I love this channel. You're very smart and concise. Plus, you always have something interesting to talk about that doesn't just stick to woodworking. Which, as an upcoming maker, I really appreciate. Keep posting. I'll keep watching, and thank you.

really looking forward to this series. I have an arduino but never jumped into it cause of my limited knowledge on electronics (wiring and stuff).
Best video yet. I loved the way you described the difference between Digital and Analogue. Going to use those in my training.
Very well explained, Bob. I knew nothing. Now I know something. I hope to dabble a bit in this area one day.
In school were making miniature robot arms that do a repeated action. I just wanted a summary of an arduino and this helped alot thanks
Thanks for posting this, and for the simple explanation. I would really like to learn how to use, setup, and integrate some electronics around the house, just for fun, with my kids. Thanks for the intro to the Arduino. I had to learn about it on the mean streets of Make Magazine!
I like the way you explain everything, also I'm still waiting patiently for more videos. No rush, man
Amazing. I was a little impressed to see everything I need to know before starting with my new Arduino. I watched few video on your channel and you have simplified so much things... Thank you so much!
