  • Ayr United FC and Kilmarnock FC are two football clubs who contest the Ayrshire Derby in Scotland. Ayr United play in the Scottish Championship, whilst Kilmarnock are in the Scottish Premiership.
    As well as investigating the two clubs, I also had a look around Ayrshire. What a lovely place!

    Are there any other derbies I should look into next?

    • @alanfox691
      @alanfox691 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Renfrewshire Derbie
      Saint Mirren VS Greenock Morton
      There is a strong rivalry's just between the two towns out with football but football brings it to the
      the boile with Saint Mirren being in The Premier at the moment & Morton being in the Championship they at the moment only play each other in The Renfrewshire Cup a pre - Season game I would suggest you cover this one next as it the most fierce one you have not covered yet in Scottish senior football.
      New Firm Derbie
      Aberdeen VS Dundee United.
      Highland Derbie
      Inverness Caledonian Thistle
      VS Ross County.
      Fife derbies
      Dunfermline Athletic VS Raith Rovers
      East Fife VS Cowdenbeath
      The Angus derbies
      between Arbroath, Forfar Athletic,
      Brechin City & Montrose.
      The problem in Scotland is that at this time a lot of local rivalrys dont take place because clubs are in different divisions personally dont think this helps Scottish football at all..
      There is The North Lanarkshire rivalry between Motherwell , Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers
      but they tend to only happen when they get drawn together in the Cups.
      This Pandemic is certainly playing havoc with your content but all you can do Sam is try.
      Keep up the good work.

      You could also though in
      The Greater Glasgow derbie then
      Pollok VS Arthurlie ( Barrhead )
      in that case was trying to keep my suggestions from the Premier to League 2 so not to overwhelm Sam with suggestions.
      But good suggestion.

    A good derby in Ayrshire to do would be Auchinleck Talbot vs Cumnock Juniors. They’re both junior teams but the derby is probably one of the fiercest rivalries in Scotland. The two villages/towns (whatever they’re classed as) pretty much go into shutdown on derby day and the games usually have great attendances! Great vid from a Killie fan!

      Oh and the Rock/Island you can see in the distance. That is the Alisa Craig. A volcanic plug. The granite it’s made from is very rare, think they call it white granite & 80% of the worlds curling stones were blasted off the rock on the other side, it had a working mine. If you take a boat trip around the opposite side from where you can see, the top half is almost completely flat. There was, & maybe still is (post pandemic), a small boat that does tours around the rock setting sail from Gibran harbour, which is about 5 miles south of the beech you stood on. Oh & the rock is approx 11 miles from the coastline. All information I’ve learned over the years to inform mainly American golfing tourists as I carry their bags around the golf course.
      Golf course facts - The complex has 3 courses & a golf academy. The most famous course is the Alisa Championship Course (named after said rock) which has hosted 4 Open Championships. 1977 - Winner: Tom Watson - famous Dual In The Sun between said winner & Jack Nicklaus. 1986 - Winner: Greg Norman. 1994 - Winner: Nick Price. 2009 - Winner: Stewart Cink - famous as being the tournament where previous winner Tom Watson, at the age of 59, lost to Cink in a sudden death playoff.
      The resort is now owned by current President of The United States, Donald Trump, who purchased it back in 2014. It has since undergone huge improvements both on course & in hotel & is currently ranked number 1 golf course in the U.K. & in my opinion, Europe.

    I’m a Killie fan and this is the biggest and best derby in Scotland.
    However if you want the 1 with the best scenery, Inverness-Ross County would blow Ayrshire out of the water. There will be a few in the Highland League as well that will have stunning scenery

    Unfortunate that, due to the present COVID-19 restrictions you couldn't see round Somerset Park - have shown a few folk around in recent years whilst volunteering at the club, if circumstances allowed. The present situation just doesn't make such visits possible. Hopefully in the future circumstances will change and you can get a tour at some time.

      @@FootyAdventures just a few back stories on Fife clubs for you , Raith went on a club tour abroad in the 1920,s by boat and ended up getting shipwrecked they were saved by the Third Lanark teams ship coming home from a tour of America, also i believe Raith are the only team to have a rhyming name to their ground in UK. Dunfermline were an up and down club until Jock Stein took over as manager in 1960 , he led them to a Scottish cup win in 1961 and built a foundation for the rest of the decade including 42 games in Europe and another Scottish cup victory in 1968 . Cowdenbeath were promoted from the old second division in 1938/39 but due to the outbreak of WW2 in the September of 1939 only played 5 league games in the 1939/40 season and when football returned officially from 1945/46 season they found they had been demoted back to second division , it took another 24 years to win promotion but they only lasted a season in the first division of 1970/71. East Fife have won three Scottish League cups and are the only second division side to have won the Scottish cup although Hibs did win as a second tier club as well but not as a second division side, East Fife took an incredible 11 games to win the cup in 1938 , including a final replay against Kilmarnock and 3 semi final games to see off St Bernards , bet they were dog tired !!

    • @FootyAdventures
      @FootyAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking into that funnily enough! Some big clubs I want to see over there. I have noticed the league restarts soon... Are fans allowed in at all?

    • @michaelmccrossan4298
      @michaelmccrossan4298 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not as of yet in Northern Ireland the league dates run similarly to the rest of the UK starts around August time and finishes with the Cup final in Juneish (obviously disrupted with covid) where they did let some fans allowed in.
      Whereas the league season in the Republic of Ireland normally runs between March and November but what they are doing now as covid postponed the league is similar in England is to cram the remainder of the season into 2/3 games a week to finish it. Hopefully things will change between now and start of next season which starts around March time
