YouTube Prospector tests for missing gold. *Trout Creek Mine*

  • After the machine test of the trout Creek gold mine showed less than expected results, I decided to start investigating why the initial tests of this claim showed so much more gold than the large scale machine test. The fist thing I need to do is run some of the same material through a highbanker that has very good capture rates and see if it is getting the same amount as the large scale wash plant. Check out our results.

    Big respect Dan for acknowledging that you were guessing how much a yard was and such. The way you carefully review the way everything happened shows that you have.... Accountability! That's right. Very rare, I know. Accountability is one of the keys to great success!
    It's also a key to inner peace and happiness

      but then he made the same mistake by assuming they ran 3/4 of a yard by eyeballing the pile size before and after :/

    I was so confused just a second ago, the video was only like five minutes long, if that and then he showed some gold and it was over. So I refreshed the page just to realize that since I came in at the end of the “premiere” it started me at the end of the video. Now that I’ve seen it all it makes much more sense. Lol 😂 thanks again Dan, great stuff as always

    Thank you very much for the content - We have no gold-bearing ore around Munich (where I live), there are a lot of alluvial soaps that are transported from glaciers, so I am always happy about content that is simply hardly possible here. Unfortunately, I have to take a break at the moment, we had an early onset of winter. Best regards and all the best for you and your familiy, Jens (Sonntags am Bach / Sunday at the creek)

    The other stones, like the Jades , are also amazing.
    Canada is so beautiful.

    We hope, now that Covid restrictions are easing ,to spend more time in B.C. and Alberta..God willing.

    Considering as well Dan, that a "YARD," of mineable materials, would have to exclude all the big rocks getting picked up by the machine.
    Half the pile is lost, just because of the number of rocks, that will 'bear no fruit.'
    Watching that older video of you and your family out panning together, eating 'tube stakes,' and being still 'pre teens,' I thought Dan, there's all the gold you'll ever need bud.
    All the yellow in the ground, can't compare to two heads of ginger! Three if you count the missus!
    And, you got a fine woman there, who's willing to ruin her nails and get dirty with you, digging and panning "your dream."
    If you never find another spec of gold, "you're still a blessed and lucky man."

    • @Danhurd
      @Danhurd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      uit is actually 6 scoops to one yard on that machine, but we calculate at 5 because we figure in each yard there is about 1 scoops of bigger boulders that we never process.

    • @LateBloomerMedia
      @LateBloomerMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Danhurd wouldn't you want to do 7 scoops then?

    • @rockbutcher
      @rockbutcher 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A yard is a yard, rocks and all. I do this for a living. Unless you want to create a bunch of unnecessary extra work for yourself calculating the volume of oversize in each bucket which then artificially inflates your grade, it's far simpler to stick to bucket yards (which are different from in-situ yards.) If you have a lot of large boulders in one area, the grade there is likely to be higher anyway if the ground is virgin, so your point is doubly moot.

    • @ZE0XE0
      @ZE0XE0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      he really should include the large rocks though in the volume of dirt processed if he wants to calculate how much gold is in the deposit volumetrically, since the bench is made up of a mix of different size material including that large oversize. Since he has to measure the volume of the gravel bench with the large rocks included as they are mixed in. Also since the profitability of the bench still is based on profit per cost to move the material, and the large rocks must be removed as part of the excavation as they would be in the way.

    Teenagers are free from the constant of thinking about the difference between the times we have and the times we think we have . They will treasure the times they have had and look back at the time spent and wish they had more . The experience of age is sometimes lost in the hubris of youth but it is recognized in scarcity . Thank you Dan you are appreciated , sending love to you and yours .

    I'm no mining expert, just a dude with a geology minor, but my best logical guess as to what is happening: First, the gold almost certainly isn't distributed close enough to even in that old streambed deposit to use a few test yards to get a fair average. Your gold yield in that type of ground will likely naturally vary greatly from "yard" to yard of material, some yards almost bare and some containing "pockets" of concentrated gold. Also, the amount of non-yielding big rocks per yard varying on top of that will combine with the uneven gold distribution to throw your small-scale testing averages off even more. Worse, you can't just discard the big rocks and use only the loose material to average, because they still factor into the cost/time/effort of mining. So in order to get a REAL average per yard, you would need a much larger sample size. Which stinks because you are trying to determine profitability with as little expense as possible before committing to a large-scale mining risk. Ultimately, I think your true average is much closer to exactly what you recovered from the large-scale mining you already did there divided by the yards of material you moved (unless you just dug in a bad spot), and the small-scale samples are confusing you because of their tendency to vary a lot from yard to yard for the reasons I already pointed out. Course, it's not impossible you could move 5 feet left or right, get a lucky deposit, and end up swimming in nuggets like Scrooge McDuck. Anyway, what I would do is take my absolute best and worst small-scale tests, average THOSE, and if you can still make a worth-while profit with that average then sink a bit of money into a small-scale mining test. If that works out, then scale it up. If not, close it down since it is very unlikely to get better. Take my advice with a grain of salt.

    Now that's what I call quality time with the wife. And dad. Great day for sure. Thanks for sharing and I always thought a yard was bigger too but we have a place here in town that sells decoration rocks by the yard and they have a bucket on their little loader that is exactly a yard and I'll tell you always look smaller than you think it'd be

    Love your work! Question, why do you measure in yards not metres?

    Hi Dan, I really enjoy watching your channel. Do you have a total count of how much gold you have recovered over the years?

  • @minerjim1531

    DAN, there is always a swell factor in material from in situ ( bank run ) vs, a pile . boulders can add as much as 50% swell to material so calculating your material sizes vs. what your actually running through the high banker as example is very different. That is why testing in bulk sample with same equipment as you will mine with is critical to success! Testing like your doing should be done weekly as you mine to redundantly check recovery!

    Dan, and Andy : it might be worth opening up the sluice box 1/3 wider at the four foot area to spread out material and change the water speed enough to give the gold another chance to drop out! i do believe you have a recovery problem, and further testing will prove that out. redundant testing of tailings daily while running is best way to monitor recovery as you mine. whether by pan or high banker, test, test and retest, mining is about recovery not yardage Fantastic videos my friend keep them coming . Merry Christmas Too ALL!

    I'm here in California, and love your channel. Do you have any recommendations for gold panning excursions? I am contemplating just buying a claim and running with it.
