If you're not IN the co-op, you're AGAINST it. The co-op, AS A GROUP, should have moved on Marlo when he declined their initial offer.

What's crazy is that COLLECTIVELY, the Co-op did not have the muscle of a weakened Barksdale organization. The leaders may have been 'co-operating' with each other at that table but their crews were all out in the streets separately. So they damn sure couldn't go against Marlo without help.
@jonmacie7581 I don't agree with that. It's 12 or so members of the co-op. Each of them couldn't provide 2 dudes to go after Marlo (total of 24)? If he was that strong, he would have taken on the whole co-op instead of just Barksdale's crew.

@jonmacie7581 That's my point. They didn't fully embrace what a "co-op" is. They should have allocated muscle to stomp out the competition. OR, they could have helped Omar find Marlo (after Chris and Snoop killed Butchie), and then took care of Omar. Think about that; Omar's crew and Marlo's crew owned the streets! Not all those other Negros combined! Fck coordinating prices/sourcing product when you can't hold onto your corners or your money.
Stringer was prepared to shout at his assistant, but in the end he couldn't help but being impressed by the creativity of his artistic vision.

@@6oweLA Of course Marlo never got what he ultimately wanted, but in terms of the war itself Avon was in a no win situation. No matter how much he fought the young will eventually take over.
The thing about respect in the streets is that eventually that all fades out no matter who it is. The core focus on the last two seasons was how the new generation had evolved into a new breed that simply didn't care or won't adhere to any unspoken rules or traditions. Some of the core aspects will remain the same, but just like the towers, all that will simply be erased. Even the scene with Kima not knowing Omar's brother is a small sample in how even the most notorious players in the game will eventually fade away.

@@Ravengagepvl that’s not what they told Marlo. They all “came together” to drive out the New York dealers. At the end of the day, Marlo wasn’t part of the co-op when Avon was at war with Marlo. The co-op was all East side before stringer joined. They were all scared of Marlo. If the war was brining that much heat, they should’ve joined to help Barksdale take Marlo out.

Avon was still locked up. And the only reason why Stringer was able to pull it off was because he got rid of Mouzone and Avon ok’ed him working with Prop Joe.
Originally, it was just Stringer letting Prop Joe work some of Barksdale territory. But the. They decided to spread the concept. Marlo was the only one that didn’t want to join because he didn’t want to give up any territory. And Avon didn’t want to be apart of the co-op when he came home because he was just like Marlo. He wanted territory. But again, Stringer was part of the co-op. He was one of the founders, so for nobody wanting to help him get rid of Marlo, was fucked up. Basically, Stringer was being used, just like they tried to use Marlo.
Barksdale was never IN the Co-op. Only Stringer Bell and idiot Shamrock. Joe was fully aware of this and did everything he could to foment Stringer's mutiny. He was manipulating Stringer the same way he tried to manipulate Marlo. Prop Joe was trying to stage a BLOODLESS revolution but there's no such thing. Avon spent alot of his time trying to get AROUND the Co-op (by getting his drugs elsewhere) but Marlo went straight after it. That's why HE won that war. Stringer Bell thought he was smart but he was still playing 'away games' this time with a MASTER. Stringer was always straight up with Joe, told him EVERYTHING that was going on within the ranks. Not once did Joe ever think that Stringer Bell would come after that connect. NOT ONCE. That's how Prop Joe destroyed the ENTIRE Barksdale organization without firing a shot. But that did not work against Marlo.

When the Barksdale's were at their peak, upstarts like Marlo who didn't play by the 'rules' were routinely capped. Wee-Bey mentioned this in Season 4. Safe to say Marlo was pretty lucky that his rise came when the Barksdale's got shutdown by the Police.
