@@sailingrumrunner I've had both sides done (weeks apart) and unfortunately, I'm one of the few that continues to have back pain. For me, there were no side effects. The procedure itself caused some discomfort but certainly nothing unbearable. I did have slight relief in the areas they "zapped" me, but I may have had my hopes up to high. The nagging back pain is still part of my daily life. Getting an MRI done very soon, so that they can take a more thorough look as to what's going on. If you're having the procedure done, you may very well be one of the lucky ones that gets huge relief. It's certainly worth trying in my opinion. Best of luck!
I had this procedure completed on both sides, L5, L4, L3. Agree, the numbing part is uncomfortable but bearable. Did not sense heat but I took a Valium when I entered the clinic. Dr helped relieve my fears but calmly explaining total procedure as he stood by the table, and as he began each step. This really helped. Once completed, my legs were heavy as I came off the table. The staff transported via wheelchair to my waiting car. I’ve iced it and resting. I’ve had this procedure done numerous times and has abated my back pain for 12-18 months. I thank God for the commitment and dedication of this doctor and his medical staff. They definitely didn’t get their degrees in a Cracker Jack box. Next time one of them ministers to you, thank them and thank God.
Great explanation. I had done in my state and was amazed within 24-48 , no pain over a year now. Highly impressed with outcome, no more lumbar, SI issues. A great pain Management MD is a great partner in your well being.
I had this done in California and the “expert” doctor kept hitting my nerves causing me to jump in pain. I was exhausted afterwards. Said he had to hit it to know where it was. Never have that done again.
My first experience with medial branch block to test nerves was like that, I almost decked that MD. My second experience for the oblation was with a well experienced anesthesiologist, much case experience and slight sedation. Worked great.
I just finished my 2nd nerve block procedure and am scheduled for the RFA in two weeks. Never had it before but at this point I'll try anything. I've had chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, steroid injections, CBD and opioids, none of which helped for more than a couple of days. And I've been told I'm not a candidate for surgery. So, here goes, maybe this will do the trick. Don't care if I have to come back every year as long as I get long-lasting relief.
I’ve had it done twice. About to have another in lumbar spine. It’s no big deal. I had no post operative soreness, pain or difficulty. It took couple weeks for relief. It’s a great process to have available.
Just had this done last week and the difference is amazing . Still sore but I’m gonna give it four weeks like this doc says to do. Looking forward to being pain free.
I've had 2 now. They lasted about 9-10 mos each and I'm due for another. Both times it took about 4 weeks for it to kick in & leave me pretty much pain free. Hope you get the same results! Mine is the S1, L4, & L5 dics.

Try lower back strength training a few times a week. Seems to be the best way to deal with persistent lower back pain. Worked for me after a car wreck and several other incidents over the years. As for neck pain. No idea how to get rid of this. Have option today for steroid or ablation but really paranoid about making it worse with ablation.
I've been getting this done for years in Ontario Canada. Things that I've learned: 1) Try to be well rested and relaxed the night before: go in a pool/hot tub, loosen the back muscles before getting needles in them. 2) Also ice / cold compresses post procedure seems better than heat. It's already inflammed, don't make it worse with heat. 3) If you travel for the procedure (like a 4-hour or more drive), I recommend getting back home before the lidocaine (freezing) wears off (about 8-hours). It's no fun hitting bumps with no freezing after they've been poking around in there. 4) I prefer extra pain medication prior to the procedure so that it "kicks in" right before I get it done. It reduces anxiety and allows you to relax. The more tense you are, the more it tends to hurt.
I had mine done, it’s been a month . I’m very happy , no pain walking 🚶♂️. At night I still have some discomfort but if I get in the right position I’m good. Definitely would do this again if needed

Continued: I received shots and took prednisone daily so I could get out of bed and walk. The pain was caused because 3 of my vertebrae collapsed and of course that meant my discs collapsed or that my vertebrae is now compacting my disc. I am in tremendous pain ALL DAY LONG 24/7. I have Osteoporosis so the surgeon said he will not be able to do surgery and sent me to the pain clinic. I did the two tests and had my appointment for the ablation but as I mentioned paragraphs earlier was to scared to do it because of the bladder issue

What does MBB stand for? I've had 3 levels done also C3 thru C7. Having my 2nd rest shot tomorrow. I've been living with chronic pain for more than 12yrs and have exhausted every treatment and drug that exists with little to no success.... I pray that this really helps me a ton...

@@nrp5791 I had the RFA and got minimal relieve. I'm still on the same disagree of patches and if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't. I may have been expecting too much, but relieve was minimal. I'm one case of many. Many people have great results. I've had so much trauma in my neck, there may but be anything but higher doses of narcotics that give me livable relief. Only problem is the Dr's are being threatened with their medical listened if they don't comply with the draconian methods of treating pain the Government is forgetting them to comply with. Who cares if I take a ton of narcotics if it's not effecting anyone, including me in a negative way???? The Federal Govt is forcing chronic pain patients to go towards street drugs because they restrict prescriptions to the bar minimums.
I just had left side lumbar l3,l4 & l5 yesterday and having right side done next week. I’m a little sore today but have noticed a little difference so far for the better so hopefully in next 4 weeks I’ll be pain free. I have 3 bludging discs and also severe arthritis in lumbar area

@@donpitts2388 hi Don Update it’s now been 4 weeks since my procedure and I’m still feeling pain in lumbar area and now my legs are starting to feel pain especially hamstrings they are really tight. It seems that the pain is not going away. I see surgeon in a few weeks so hopefully he can tell me what’s next. I’ve heard it’s worked for others but looks like for me it hasn’t worked like it should of.

I have done this procedure jus a week ago. I was sedated so didn’t know what the drs did through out the procedure 😅😅but when I woke up omg it was so painful I felt like I was in better condition before but it’s settling slowly. Will give 4 weeks as said by my dr and this dr. Just finger crossed I did on my left side l4,l5 and sacroiliac joints
am scheduled to have my 2nd Medial Branch Block on June 3rd, 2024, my first one I got good results , after doing the pain score for the first 6 hours after it, I had a 90% relief from pain! So I am in hopes will get the same relief on my 2nd Medial Branch Block so I can have the the RFA procedure done ! My pain is lower back, L4 & L5, I do have some arthritis also my pain doctor says, sometimes I have the worst pain on my left side which is where the doctor sees the arthritis. I am a 67 year old woman from N.C.
Getting this done tomorrow morning. Have dealt with mechanical pain for over 20 years (old Army injury that was misdiagnosed so I spent all these years doing rehab and stretching for the wrong thing). It's got to the point where there is no position that I get relief.
@@thedarksideproductions5743 I did initially but then it quickly wore off. Think I had most relief from whatever numbing meds they used and I think they injected a bit of steroid to help it heal. As of today not much help. Although I think I have more than one issue causing my low back pain. Hope it works better for you. Just know that it can take a few weeks for the nerves to stop sending pain signals... especially right after being burned they are a bit more pissed off. lol

Just had my second procedure. First one lasted 10 months, and I knew that night it worked perfect. I had site pain, but the pain I had been experiencing was gone.
I have made an appointment with a new doctor who comes highly recommended. He's a specialist in pain management in the neck, knees and spine. He's more than just a pain management doctor but isn't a surgeon. I don't trust the other clinic anymore in their choice of doctors. Funny how all of a sudden my doctor was relocating across the state. I still have Sciatica nerve pain.
Fixing to have my 1st one soon. I broke my back in 3 places in 2018, my t12 to my L2. I've had surgery on it but now it's eat up with arthritis and I can't wait to get this fixed for a while
Thank you. I’m having this done in a couple weeks on my saphenous nerve due to chronic pain from an old fracture/hardware and the hardware couldn’t be removed. The initial diagnostic injection lasted 6 weeks with almost 100% pain gone. I’m nervous about the ablation but hoping it works for a long time!!
@@its_ari5458hi! The procedure was easy! Just the numbing part hurt. It’s been a little over a week since the procedure and I haven’t experienced any pain relief yet. They said it could take a few weeks even up to a month to feel relief so I’m keeping my fingers crossed
I had this procedure done almost a couple of weeks ago. I'm still pretty sore, stiff and my pain has yet to subside due to the inflammation. I've been icing, taking my pain meds and muscle relaxers. Also, my skin was real tender to the touch, its been getting better from using 4% lidocaine that I roll on for temporary numbness and relief. I'm still healing but within a week or so I'm sure I'll be feeling much better. Just have to be patient and stay consistent with icing.
@@thavaganeshrajamohan2153 they give you morphine in hospitle then codene when your at home 6 days later its a sickening ache you can't bend or stretch or lift things it's a major surgery ,if I'd known it was going to be this painful I'd never had had it done,but ask me again in 4 months
FYI-My ablation was not with this doctor or at this clinic!! I had it done for a third time today. The first two procedures went well and provided 90%-100% pain relief for several months both times. Today my ablation was done by a doctor “in training” and it was horribly painful! It was as if he hadn’t used any numbing medication AT ALL!! I felt every stick, needle adjustment, etc. on all 6 nerves treated and even the 176° F heat from the actual ablation. My best advice is to KNOW your doctor and REFUSE to let anyone else do the procedure. I finally made it home but have had an excruciating headache since the procedure. If I don’t get as much pain relief this time, I probably won’t do it again (in spite of the fact that I know my experience today is very rare).
@@lisapagan1958 I had mine Friday. Wasn't bad at all but they had to give me a light sedative because I couldn't get on the table. Didn't see much improvement tho 🫤
I've had this done 4times. It wasn't painful but it only worked 1x for a period of time only 4 months. Presently I'm in horrible pain but can't afford another ablation. Co pays are high.
Because this procedure can give good pain relief for an extended time. When the pain returns, it's simple to repeat the ablation. What else gives these results for that long? I'm glad to have this available after 20 years of 27/7 severe headaches and migraines.
Beware, I had this procedure in the UK. I found that playing tennis, physical DIY and longer walks caused an onset of sciatic discomfort, i.e. pain in the buttocks, thighs and calves. With local anaesthetic, the nerves on two lumber facet joints were ablated, now three weeks later, my pain is no longer intermittent and I'm in worse pain than before, all of the time. Obviously I'm hoping this will right itself in time, but for now I wish I'd side stepped this intervention as I feel that, certainly in the UK, this 'temporary fix' as yet, hasn't been thoroughly tried and tested.
I had ablation for my tailbone pain 22 days ago in Arizona. 4 days after procedure severe pain started in the area you described. Pain is almost unbearable, persistent. Nothing helps at all. On Oxycodone, gabapentine, prednisone, diclofenac. No use. It hurts and burns at the same time. I feel disabled. I can't work, can't drive. I think he damaged my nerve and I pray it's not permanent damage. I regret so much I had that ablation! Needless to say it didn't help my tailbone pain at all. Pain is 8 out of 10.

After four weeks did the burning kick in and make you better than you were before the procedure? The first time burning tends to take longer to start working. I think that it's also worse because of the unknown. I try and explain my experience with it as this: If I take all of the pain that I would normally be in (for that area) in a six month time period, divide that by four (25%), then squeeze it all into two weeks, that's kind of what it's like. After that two weeks is over (not a fun two weeks) the pain is 80-90% better for me for about 4-5 months so it's worth it for me.
@@ericshaw7859 Good for you Eric, the pain was indeed worse after the ablation. 9 months post procedure now and no improvement, really wish I hadn't had it done. Ironically, the anasthesia nerve block beforehand took all the pain and discomfort away for about 10 minutes. Guess I'll never know what went wrong.
I had this procedure done a number of years ago for lower back pain. I felt so good for about a year and the pain came back. I had it done again with a different doctor and it didn't work. I wanted to have it done a third time and was told that if it didn't work the second time there wouldn't be a point in doing it again. Why would it not have worked the second time? I had one physician tell me I needed back surgery at that point. I would rather not do it because I've heard it doesn't always fix the problem.
Yes, if the needle is not in the right place it will not give you the relief that you had before. It can definitely be exactly what you thought it was. I had one procedure that didn’t work but all before it and after it worked.
Have you considered acupuncture to treat that problem? I have had acupuncture (they use micro needles) for a number of issues and I got relief without pain killers. Good luck. ❤
So what are your thoughts when patients who are with 8/10 of pain with multiple spine cancer and arthritis. Along with past broken spine fractures . They got nerve block shots and it doesn't work for them.

I'm waiting to get this done. The last bilateral Nerve block injections in the sacroiliac, caused sciatica. Will the sciatic nerve pain go away when I get nerve ablation?. I'm in agony at the moment n in permanent pain in my left side. But the radiating pain is in my left thigh. It's the worst pain ever. No meds are helping. I cant even get into a comfortable position. I hope it works for me as may need an op on mu vertebrae.
Wishing you the best. My wife has same symptoms on right side. Had a trial injection just to numb the sac nerve and it helped. If insurance finally gets straightened out we will try this therapy.
@@thedarksideproductions5743 It took about 6 weeks following the surgery before I started to feel any pain relief and by then I was already going to PT once a week (which I still am but mainly to get massage as I do the exercises I was given at the gym). It's still painful on the right side where the needles were stuck and if I overdo things I still know about it but overall it's nowhere near as bad. It was worth getting it done but we'll see how long it lasts.
I went to a appointment to have this done on my cervical spine , pain for 8 yrs and fusion on 3 vertebrae! This doctor ordered up a mylagram! This was my 2nd one I have had done , I didn’t understand why and still no answer to why ! No closer to getting the ablation I’m extremely disappointed ! What can I do , I asked for the CD from the test and they will not give it to me , wanted to go to a different doctor for a second opinion !
I was informed by my spine surgeon said there “IS” a possibility that you can loose control of you Bladder. I have also read comments of some women who “DID”Loose control of their Bladder. I was scheduled for this procedure but cancelled it due to this information. I have also read comments that after the procedure they had more pain that would not stop. ALSO, some people had the nerve endings grow back in 3 months, 6 months 1 year and one person 10 years and still waiting. Do you have any comment for me regarding this information? Had this done last December.. big fail. Specialist thought best to do it in my scalp instead neck for ON nerve impingement headpain .. was big error in her part.. she should’ve stuck to first idea in back of neck .. I knew it wasn’t going to work when last minute change of plans, on morning of procedure .. I was correct. She screwed up big time. Because of her wrong actions I’m back on long public waiting list again. Took 2 years to wait last time. Now, I have to take panadien forte and Maxalt often with its bad side effects . Goodness what else will do to rest of my health taking all those pain killers.. I’m not a happy person.. my procedure was done under anaesthetic.. can’t have it done awake it’s far to painful .. asking hospital if they could do both locations done same time .. lumber stenosis pain and neck under anaesthetic together.. because I cannot have any of those injections Because the pain goes off the charts.. how patients can get it done without anaesthetic is mind boggling. It turns out that my problem is a bone Issue. I had knee replacements about 30 years ago. I thought that I would not have pain in the future. WRONG. I am going for PT.
Had this done 6 months ago on facet joints and not one bit of pain since. Now I need to find someone to do this on my left CMC joint area. My left thumb is eaten up with arthritis but I still refuse to do surgery and be down for 8 frickin weeks or longer.
Well I told my. Doctor that I have a problem standing or moving around. She said I needed more core exercise but it’s not that. I think I’ve got what he’s talking about only when I do activity it hurts

Had a neurosurgeon tell me it was core muscles..go to P.T. for 6 wks. It wasn't that at all. I'm having this procedure done on both sides of L5 . One next week and the second the week following. See another doctor. My doctor is Pain Management.
Dr. told me about 2 yr. avg for his patients. It depends on several factors. One is size of burn that was done. Two is did they get right nerve. In my case it was Occipital nerve which causes headaches in forehead and around orbital bone and base of skull. Strangely enough is my original multilevel ACDF surgery damaged the Occipital nerve.

I had my left lumber done last week and it felt like an extremely hot iron on an open sore. That hurt like hell and the burning 🔥 was extremely painful.
Oh wow. They didn't numb you up good enough! That happened on my 2nd one last year & as soon as it kept getting hotter I said, "Hold up! This wasn't this hot the 1st time". She stopped, put more numbing meds in, apologized profusely and then continued. It was all good after that.
How many can you have in one year? I have Celiac Ganglion damage from Mesenteric Artery Ligament Syndrome. I had a Celiac Ganglion Resection but because of 15 years until a diagnose, I have abdominal nerve damage.
I'm in Wyoming on Wyoming workers comp and want a "direct visualized rhizotomy." Anybody know where I can get one???? I'm male, 64 years old, dealing with lumbar for 30 years, no cutting yet.
Does DVR direct visualised rhiztomy last longer than RA ? Seems cruel to have to got through this proceedure causing more injury then get out of pain if it works , only for it to return 6 months later and back to square one ! People with facet joint arthritis want a longer term solution surely ?

Yea omg the pain was so intense. Had two EMG test that I thought was the worst pain id felt. Oh no this hust so bad for several days after . 3 rd time wasnt as bad but still didnt relieve.
Am writing this at home with ice on my back after having this procedure done 3 hours ago. I have had epidurals for cervical herniated discs for the past 7 years with great success. Today’s treatment was a RFA for lumbar pain. After two medial branch block injections two weeks apart with great success in relieving pain, the RFA was done today. It does take a little longer, but I felt no pain whatsoever. The DR talks to you during the procedure getting feedback from you as to whether or not you can feel anything. I could feel some pressure and occasional mild discomfort, but no pain. There is more soreness in the treatment area than with injections, but that is to be expected. Now it’s a wait to see if the procedure results in long-term relief and can keep the surgeons at bay.
@@sarahdenn4876 No pain at all since the RFA. I should mention that the Dr gave me a mild to moderate sedative for the procedure, more than what he would give for the epidurals. I was a little groggy for an hour afterwards, but all is good now.
They can permanently damage your nerve, wrong one and you will be in excruciating pain and nothing will be helping at all! It happened to me. I regret this procedure SO much!! Pain is excruciating and constant. Think twice going for it. You will sign permanent nerve damage risk. It's complete nightmare!!
Ive had 6 rfas...3 on each side L3 L4 L5 S1. But the pain relieve is onky lasting 3 to 5 months. Why do some peopkes nerves regrow faster? I read taking Vitamin B12 can increase speed of nerve growth . Could that be true?
Has anyone had this done to their feet? I have anterior impingement of both ankles which is discomforting. I need something to alleviate the anterior impingement pain.
I have extreme pain of the bottom of my feet and nerve pain all over my feet from frostbite. All toes amputated, loss is a layer of skin over the entire feet (the area of loss of skin is what would be covered when wearing a small ankle sock...) Lost a thick layer of skin from the bottom of both feet. I can't take it anymore. I am seriously wondering if amputating my feet entirely is an option for me cuz I just can't do this anymore. I'm sick of the medication that just makes life tolerable, but has its costs. I'm miserable all the time. Can the major nerve to each foot be severed completely...?
What kind of sedation is given at the surgical center? Is it just versed? Or ketamine? Or stronger? I had my rfa trial with IV versed and it wasn’t enough. My second trial was with a double dose of versed and im still not ok. They said that I can’t be put under general but looking for other options 😭

Yes they’re going to do this to me. But where do I find more information about this I mean anybody can say anything right. And they want you to have pain while you’re laying down there. That’s what I don’t understand My pain only comes when I stand or walk. As soon as I lay down it’s gone so what do I do.

Omg.. the medicine that goes in to numb your back hurt soo bad I was crying. They when they started the procedure it was still hurting. After it was all done I cried so hard!! I have to have 1 more in 2 weeks 😫but my back feels better already. Then to make matters worse I got my 1st covid shot yesterday and now I can't lift my arm.. self punishment 🤣

I had this procedure completed on both sides, L5, L4, L3. Agree, the numbing part is uncomfortable but bearable. Did not sense heat but I took a Valium when I entered the clinic. Dr helped relieve my fears but calmly explaining total procedure as he stood by the table, and as he began each step. This really helped. Once completed, my legs were heavy as I came off the table. The staff transported via wheelchair to my waiting car. I’ve iced it and resting.
I’ve had this procedure done numerous times and has abated my back pain for 12-18 months. I thank God for the commitment and dedication of this doctor and his medical staff. They definitely didn’t get their degrees in a Cracker Jack box. Next time one of them ministers to you, thank them and thank God.

Did you have a IV sedation?
Yes, IV Propathal...made sense to use it, was already terrible pain, why make it worse, was totally relaxed.

I had this done in California and the “expert” doctor kept hitting my nerves causing me to jump in pain. I was exhausted afterwards. Said he had to hit it to know where it was. Never have that done again.
My first experience with medial branch block to test nerves was like that, I almost decked that MD. My second experience for the oblation was with a well experienced anesthesiologist, much case experience and slight sedation. Worked great.

I just finished my 2nd nerve block procedure and am scheduled for the RFA in two weeks. Never had it before but at this point I'll try anything. I've had chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, steroid injections, CBD and opioids, none of which helped for more than a couple of days. And I've been told I'm not a candidate for surgery. So, here goes, maybe this will do the trick. Don't care if I have to come back every year as long as I get long-lasting relief.

I've had 2 now. They lasted about 9-10 mos each and I'm due for another. Both times it took about 4 weeks for it to kick in & leave me pretty much pain free. Hope you get the same results! Mine is the S1, L4, & L5 dics.

Try lower back strength training a few times a week. Seems to be the best way to deal with persistent lower back pain. Worked for me after a car wreck and several other incidents over the years. As for neck pain. No idea how to get rid of this. Have option today for steroid or ablation but really paranoid about making it worse with ablation.
I've been getting this done for years in Ontario Canada. Things that I've learned:
1) Try to be well rested and relaxed the night before: go in a pool/hot tub, loosen the back muscles before getting needles in them.
2) Also ice / cold compresses post procedure seems better than heat. It's already inflammed, don't make it worse with heat.
3) If you travel for the procedure (like a 4-hour or more drive), I recommend getting back home before the lidocaine (freezing) wears off (about 8-hours). It's no fun hitting bumps with no freezing after they've been poking around in there.
4) I prefer extra pain medication prior to the procedure so that it "kicks in" right before I get it done. It reduces anxiety and allows you to relax. The more tense you are, the more it tends to hurt.

I had mine done, it’s been a month . I’m very happy , no pain walking 🚶♂️. At night I still have some discomfort but if I get in the right position I’m good. Definitely would do this again if needed

Continued: I received shots and took prednisone daily so I could get out of bed and walk. The pain was caused because 3 of my vertebrae collapsed and of course that meant my discs collapsed or that my vertebrae is now compacting my disc. I am in tremendous pain ALL DAY LONG 24/7. I have Osteoporosis so the surgeon said he will not be able to do surgery and sent me to the pain clinic. I did the two tests and had my appointment for the ablation but as I mentioned paragraphs earlier was to scared to do it because of the bladder issue

@@nrp5791 I had the RFA and got minimal relieve. I'm still on the same disagree of patches and if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't. I may have been expecting too much, but relieve was minimal. I'm one case of many. Many people have great results. I've had so much trauma in my neck, there may but be anything but higher doses of narcotics that give me livable relief. Only problem is the Dr's are being threatened with their medical listened if they don't comply with the draconian methods of treating pain the Government is forgetting them to comply with.
Who cares if I take a ton of narcotics if it's not effecting anyone, including me in a negative way???? The Federal Govt is forcing chronic pain patients to go towards street drugs because they restrict prescriptions to the bar minimums.
I just had left side lumbar l3,l4 & l5 yesterday and having right side done next week. I’m a little sore today but have noticed a little difference so far for the better so hopefully in next 4 weeks I’ll be pain free.

Update it’s now been 4 weeks since my procedure and I’m still feeling pain in lumbar area and now my legs are starting to feel pain especially hamstrings they are really tight. It seems that the pain is not going away. I see surgeon in a few weeks so hopefully he can tell me what’s next. I’ve heard it’s worked for others but looks like for me it hasn’t worked like it should of.

I have done this procedure jus a week ago. I was sedated so didn’t know what the drs did through out the procedure 😅😅but when I woke up omg it was so painful I felt like I was in better condition before but it’s settling slowly. Will give 4 weeks as said by my dr and this dr. Just finger crossed

am scheduled to have my 2nd Medial Branch Block on June 3rd, 2024, my first one I got good results , after doing the pain score for the first 6 hours after it, I had a 90% relief from pain! So I am in hopes will get the same relief on my 2nd Medial Branch Block so I can have the the RFA procedure done ! My pain is lower back, L4 & L5, I do have some arthritis also my pain doctor says, sometimes I have the worst pain on my left side which is where the doctor sees the arthritis. I am a 67 year old woman from N.C.
Getting this done tomorrow morning. Have dealt with mechanical pain for over 20 years (old Army injury that was misdiagnosed so I spent all these years doing rehab and stretching for the wrong thing). It's got to the point where there is no position that I get relief.

@@thedarksideproductions5743 I did initially but then it quickly wore off. Think I had most relief from whatever numbing meds they used and I think they injected a bit of steroid to help it heal. As of today not much help. Although I think I have more than one issue causing my low back pain. Hope it works better for you. Just know that it can take a few weeks for the nerves to stop sending pain signals... especially right after being burned they are a bit more pissed off. lol

I have made an appointment with a new doctor who comes highly recommended. He's a specialist in pain management in the neck, knees and spine. He's more than just a pain management doctor but isn't a surgeon. I don't trust the other clinic anymore in their choice of doctors. Funny how all of a sudden my doctor was relocating across the state. I still have Sciatica nerve pain.
Fixing to have my 1st one soon. I broke my back in 3 places in 2018, my t12 to my L2. I've had surgery on it but now it's eat up with arthritis and I can't wait to get this fixed for a while

I had this procedure done almost a couple of weeks ago. I'm still pretty sore, stiff and my pain has yet to subside due to the inflammation. I've been icing, taking my pain meds and muscle relaxers. Also, my skin was real tender to the touch, its been getting better from using 4% lidocaine that I roll on for temporary numbness and relief. I'm still healing but within a week or so I'm sure I'll be feeling much better. Just have to be patient and stay consistent with icing.
I have had it twice. No pain at all. Felt good the next day. Don't know why the difference.
That's good to know, I'm glad for you! The doctor said it could vary with each person and also the location. Mines was in the cervical area.

Its the site ofbthe needles that may cause soreness. Also it takes 1-2 weeks for the nerves to completely die.

FYI-My ablation was not with this doctor or at this clinic!! I had it done for a third time today. The first two procedures went well and provided 90%-100% pain relief for several months both times. Today my ablation was done by a doctor “in training” and it was horribly painful! It was as if he hadn’t used any numbing medication AT ALL!! I felt every stick, needle adjustment, etc. on all 6 nerves treated and even the 176° F heat from the actual ablation. My best advice is to KNOW your doctor and REFUSE to let anyone else do the procedure. I finally made it home but have had an excruciating headache since the procedure. If I don’t get as much pain relief this time, I probably won’t do it again (in spite of the fact that I know my experience today is very rare).

I've had this done 4times. It wasn't painful but it only worked 1x for a period of time only 4 months. Presently I'm in horrible pain but can't afford another ablation. Co pays are high.

Sensory nerves are the warning signals that damage is being done, I think this is an important function.
what about a kinked nerve root? Do you think this RFA would be good for that? Or will blocking the signal just cause the damage to get worse
The nerve is still entrapped, it’s only been silenced. Determining the cause for the entrapment is important.
What about disc prolapse, on 2 occasions, and after 2 surgies I am still in agonising pain all day and night......nah I will skip this
Many things I’ve read say this procedure helps for about 1 year…..will pain just come back what’s the point?
Because this procedure can give good pain relief for an extended time. When the pain returns, it's simple to repeat the ablation. What else gives these results for that long?
I'm glad to have this available after 20 years of 27/7 severe headaches and migraines.
Beware, I had this procedure in the UK. I found that playing tennis, physical DIY and longer walks caused an onset of sciatic discomfort, i.e. pain in the buttocks, thighs and calves. With local anaesthetic, the nerves on two lumber facet joints were ablated, now three weeks later, my pain is no longer intermittent and I'm in worse pain than before, all of the time. Obviously I'm hoping this will right itself in time, but for now I wish I'd side stepped this intervention as I feel that, certainly in the UK, this 'temporary fix' as yet, hasn't been thoroughly tried and tested.
I had ablation for my tailbone pain 22 days ago in Arizona. 4 days after procedure severe pain started in the area you described. Pain is almost unbearable, persistent. Nothing helps at all. On Oxycodone, gabapentine, prednisone, diclofenac. No use. It hurts and burns at the same time. I feel disabled. I can't work, can't drive. I think he damaged my nerve and I pray it's not permanent damage. I regret so much I had that ablation! Needless to say it didn't help my tailbone pain at all. Pain is 8 out of 10.

After four weeks did the burning kick in and make you better than you were before the procedure? The first time burning tends to take longer to start working. I think that it's also worse because of the unknown.
I try and explain my experience with it as this:
If I take all of the pain that I would normally be in (for that area) in a six month time period, divide that by four (25%), then squeeze it all into two weeks, that's kind of what it's like. After that two weeks is over (not a fun two weeks) the pain is 80-90% better for me for about 4-5 months so it's worth it for me.
@@ericshaw7859 Good for you Eric, the pain was indeed worse after the ablation. 9 months post procedure now and no improvement, really wish I hadn't had it done. Ironically, the anasthesia nerve block beforehand took all the pain and discomfort away for about 10 minutes. Guess I'll never know what went wrong.
I had this procedure done a number of years ago for lower back pain. I felt so good for about a year and the pain came back. I had it done again with a different doctor and it didn't work. I wanted to have it done a third time and was told that if it didn't work the second time there wouldn't be a point in doing it again. Why would it not have worked the second time? I had one physician tell me I needed back surgery at that point. I would rather not do it because I've heard it doesn't always fix the problem.
That doc probably did it in the wrong place. It will probably work if it's at the right place.
Yes, if the needle is not in the right place it will not give you the relief that you had before. It can definitely be exactly what you thought it was. I had one procedure that didn’t work but all before it and after it worked.
Have you considered acupuncture to treat that problem? I have had acupuncture (they use micro needles) for a number of issues and I got relief without pain killers. Good luck. ❤
So what are your thoughts when patients who are with 8/10 of pain with multiple spine cancer and arthritis. Along with past broken spine fractures . They got nerve block shots and it doesn't work for them.

Nerve block injections in the sacroiliac, caused sciatica. Will the sciatic nerve pain go away when I get nerve ablation?. I'm in agony at the moment n in permanent pain in my left side. But the radiating pain is in my left thigh. It's the worst pain ever. No meds are helping. I cant even get into a comfortable position. I hope it works for me as may need an op on mu vertebrae.

They found out I had 2 slipped discs. Could do the ablation. Still have nerve pain down one leg and can't walk very far. Need a wheelchair now.
Only meds touch nerve pain is nerve meds like Lyrica or Gabapentin. Narcotics do not help nerve pain. Very sorry to hear you're suffering!

@@thedarksideproductions5743 It took about 6 weeks following the surgery before I started to feel any pain relief and by then I was already going to PT once a week (which I still am but mainly to get massage as I do the exercises I was given at the gym). It's still painful on the right side where the needles were stuck and if I overdo things I still know about it but overall it's nowhere near as bad. It was worth getting it done but we'll see how long it lasts.

I went to a appointment to have this done on my cervical spine , pain for 8 yrs and fusion on 3 vertebrae! This doctor ordered up a mylagram! This was my 2nd one I have had done , I didn’t understand why and still no answer to why ! No closer to getting the ablation I’m extremely disappointed ! What can I do , I asked for the CD from the test and they will not give it to me , wanted to go to a different doctor for a second opinion !

I was informed by my spine surgeon said there “IS” a possibility that you can loose control of you Bladder. I have also read comments of some women who “DID”Loose control of their Bladder. I was scheduled for this procedure but cancelled it due to this information. I have also read comments that after the procedure they had more pain that would not stop. ALSO, some people had the nerve endings grow back in 3 months, 6 months 1 year and one person 10 years and still waiting. Do you have any comment for me regarding this information?

Specialist thought best to do it in my scalp instead neck for ON nerve impingement headpain .. was big error in her part.. she should’ve stuck to first idea in back of neck .. I knew it wasn’t going to work when last minute change of plans, on morning of procedure .. I was correct. She screwed up big time. Because of her wrong actions I’m back on long public waiting list again. Took 2 years to wait last time. Now, I have to take panadien forte and Maxalt often with its bad side effects . Goodness what else will do to rest of my health taking all those pain killers.. I’m not a happy person.. my procedure was done under anaesthetic.. can’t have it done awake it’s far to painful .. asking hospital if they could do both locations done same time .. lumber stenosis pain and neck under anaesthetic together.. because I cannot have any of those injections Because the pain goes off the charts.. how patients can get it done without anaesthetic is mind boggling. I don’t know how they can stand the pain while the thingy mybob goes inside . The pain is excruciating . I scream very loud , cry .. it’s very traumatic in my case.
It turns out that my problem is a bone Issue. I had knee replacements about 30 years ago. I thought that I would not have pain in the future. WRONG. I am going for PT.

Had a neurosurgeon tell me it was core muscles..go to P.T. for 6 wks. It wasn't that at all. I'm having this procedure done on both sides of L5 . One next week and the second the week following. See another doctor. My doctor is Pain Management.

Dr. told me about 2 yr. avg for his patients. It depends on several factors. One is size of burn that was done. Two is did they get right nerve. In my case it was Occipital nerve which causes headaches in forehead and around orbital bone and base of skull. Strangely enough is my original multilevel ACDF surgery damaged the Occipital nerve.

I had my left lumber done last week and it felt like an extremely hot iron on an open sore. That hurt like hell and the burning 🔥 was extremely painful.

Oh wow. They didn't numb you up good enough! That happened on my 2nd one last year & as soon as it kept getting hotter I said, "Hold up! This wasn't this hot the 1st time". She stopped, put more numbing meds in, apologized profusely and then continued. It was all good after that.

Does DVR direct visualised rhiztomy last longer than RA ? Seems cruel to have to got through this proceedure causing more injury then get out of pain if it works , only for it to return 6 months later and back to square one ! People with facet joint arthritis want a longer term solution surely ?

Hello, I had this done a couple years ago and it was incredibly painful my leg was on fire. The Dr. Wouldn’t tell me why and have been looking for answers.
Yea omg the pain was so intense. Had two EMG test that I thought was the worst pain id felt. Oh no this hust so bad for several days after . 3 rd time wasnt as bad but still didnt relieve.
Am writing this at home with ice on my back after having this procedure done 3 hours ago. I have had epidurals for cervical herniated discs for the past 7 years with great success. Today’s treatment was a RFA for lumbar pain. After two medial branch block injections two weeks apart with great success in relieving pain, the RFA was done today. It does take a little longer, but I felt no pain whatsoever. The DR talks to you during the procedure getting feedback from you as to whether or not you can feel anything. I could feel some pressure and occasional mild discomfort, but no pain. There is more soreness in the treatment area than with injections, but that is to be expected. Now it’s a wait to see if the procedure results in long-term relief and can keep the surgeons at bay.

@@sarahdenn4876 No pain at all since the RFA. I should mention that the Dr gave me a mild to moderate sedative for the procedure, more than what he would give for the epidurals. I was a little groggy for an hour afterwards, but all is good now.

The procedure is not so simple! I am still having pain after four months. If you have any ideas I'd like to hear them.
Did you tell your dr? Were you sedated?
Can this procedure be done for non-spinal pain? like pain in the shoulder blade that radiates to armpit area?

They can permanently damage your nerve, wrong one and you will be in excruciating pain and nothing will be helping at all! It happened to me. I regret this procedure SO much!! Pain is excruciating and constant. Think twice going for it. You will sign permanent nerve damage risk. It's complete nightmare!!
@Night Owl I hope it get to feeling better for you. I was nervous of permanent nerve damage as well, it's a huge risk. Hang in there!
Ive had 6 rfas...3 on each side L3 L4 L5 S1. But the pain relieve is onky lasting 3 to 5 months. Why do some peopkes nerves regrow faster? I read taking Vitamin B12 can increase speed of nerve growth . Could that be true?
Is this a good idea for someone with a kinked nerve root at L5 S1. The nerve is kinked due to scar tissue and they cant remove it

I have extreme pain of the bottom of my feet and nerve pain all over my feet from frostbite. All toes amputated, loss is a layer of skin over the entire feet (the area of loss of skin is what would be covered when wearing a small ankle sock...) Lost a thick layer of skin from the bottom of both feet.
I can't take it anymore. I am seriously wondering if amputating my feet entirely is an option for me cuz I just can't do this anymore. I'm sick of the medication that just makes life tolerable, but has its costs. I'm miserable all the time.
Can the major nerve to each foot be severed completely...?
What kind of sedation is given at the surgical center? Is it just versed? Or ketamine? Or stronger? I had my rfa trial with IV versed and it wasn’t enough. My second trial was with a double dose of versed and im still not ok. They said that I can’t be put under general but looking for other options 😭
You need something for pain too. My surgery center uses versed and fentayl, plus local
I am on my second one,always under completely.

Yes they’re going to do this to me. But where do I find more information about this I mean anybody can say anything right. And they want you to have pain while you’re laying down there. That’s what I don’t understand My pain only comes when I stand or walk. As soon as I lay down it’s gone so what do I do.
Hi Jeannie, I understand your frustration. You should ask your doctor, he/she should be able to answer all of your questions prior to the procedure.
Yes I just had my procedure done two weeks ago I think it’s working a little bit but they tell you it takes three weeks or more before you notice anything is that true

Have you investigated Pregabalin with your doctor? It is a medicine that targets nerves only. Does not result in a cloudy brain.

I go in and it was just a regular visit, I had the wrong app day...I go on 4/22/ so I have to go through all that again. I had a headache and had myself sick to my stomach for nothing 🤣 I'm pretty sure they were laughing harder than me😊
Omg.. the medicine that goes in to numb your back hurt soo bad I was crying. They when they started the procedure it was still hurting. After it was all done I cried so hard!! I have to have 1 more in 2 weeks 😫but my back feels better already. Then to make matters worse I got my 1st covid shot yesterday and now I can't lift my arm.. self punishment 🤣

It depends on the patient, but typically around 10 months.
I've had 2 & bith lasted 9-10 mos. I'm due for another now. I can always feel the pain returning and migraines when it's time.
