I actually went to training for baseball (retail setting ) and the bat will break in over time/use. Rolling the bat just speeds the process versus playing/practicing with it. My 2 cents

The bat was made to certain batted ball speed standards & nothing the rolling machine can do will change that !.. if its an Asa bat the standard is 98mph , rolling a bat will not make it hit 100mph, it just gets it to the manufacturer standards quicker without looking like it was left on the hwy during traffic hour ... your welcome...

Shaving is bad yes, but the rule states that if the bat is swung or struck by anything other than a ball its deamed an altered bat, so,,,,,,, that means hitting your cleats, another bat, anything by definition, you can't prove rolling either.
