In today's video I will take apart the hydraulic block of a Peugeot 807 fitted with AL4 gearbox.
Car starts and drive fine for couple of miles or sometimes less and all of a sudden gets into limp mode (stack in 3rd gear)
This problem is well known with Renault (DP0) and Peugeot, Citroen (AL4) gearbox.
Most of the time this fault come with P1167 which is a dual purpose code. In my case P1167 means low oil pressure inside the gearbox.
Low oil pressure can be caused by something blocking the oil flow around the gearbox. It might filters or pressure solenoids.
Looking around the internet and doing my own tests on this particular car I came to the conclusion that the problem is because of the pressure solenoids. So I decided to replace them and show you how it's done.

Nice review. I have a Grand C4 Picasso 2014. Error code P0842 which pressure signal fault, indicating short circuit earth. Car changes gear to manual then to neutral itself while driving and has to be reset by removing battery terminal. Requesting assistance in fixing

hi i wonder if someone can help me please i have a 2003 citreon xsara car al4 automatic transmission with just 33,000 miles on clock just had oil changed but after driving for say 15 miles i get a klunk when it goes from 1st to 2nd ? no errors showing on dashboard ? and does not go in to limp mode ? drives very smoothly otherwise however a garage said it needs a range switch and input sensor to solve problem ? is this correct do you think or would changing solenoid valves like in this video cure problem ? thankyou to anyone who could advise me ? regards terry

Hi. Great video. Is this gearbox in Renault Clio year 2006 1.6 16v? When is cold it shows check gearbox, and when it is worm everything is ok.
My car is 2016 when the gearbox is hot why does it kick or thud when you put it into gear?
How is the Limp Mode manifested?..clutch slipping or/and something else? Does it say limp mode or just gearbox fault on display?

Upon looking up on the web it is said that an ECU software update is necessary after the new sensor is installed. An ECU update is always a good thing to do.

Question: I have a Citroen C4 (2006) with the same issue (P1167 and sticking in 3rd gear, but only after a “cold start”, that’s strange), do you know if I need to update ECUs firmware after changing the solenoids ? Read that somewhere before but haven’t found anyone mentioning or doing it on these videos.
Andres I can’t remember if I had to plug a tester to update. Most likely not.

Hey mate, I think you might have saved me here. Just to be sure, you say the code P1167 is dual purpose. What is the 'other' purpose this code could mean? Our car (2005 Peugeot 307) will lock in Park and refuse to go into Drive if started and then left idling for 30sec or more. Its throwing P1167 code, and threw a stop warning when driving once but my daughter stopped and restarted the car and it went back to normal driving.

When i move the gear lever, nothing happened, it does not go to "'D" , it stays on "N" and sometimes the car does not start, and other times it starts. The OBD II says "Manufacturer Controlled Transmission. Code P 1834" what do you think the problem is?

@@eneacafa392 Yes, I removed all electric connectors around the gearbox and computer, and cleaned them with an electric spray cleaner, even though they all looked clean. When I plugged them back, I kept plugging and unplugging like 5 times. This really fixed the problem. You have to remove few of the intake hoses from the top in order to reach all pluggs from the top and you have to remove the bottom cover to reach the bottom pluggs. I also changed the gearbox oil, since I was able to reach the drain plug from the top. The oil had nothing to do with the problem, but i did it because the car had 140,000 km. I'm glade i did because the oil was black and had some visible metal shavings in the oil and on the plug's magnet and the magnet may have lost its magnetic affect. I pored 2 L of Liqui Moly 75W-80. Thats me man im going under my friend say ohh no your car runs perfect how can it run perfectly when its shutter when it changes and doesn't engage into gear im going all out new solanoids and if theres anything else that needs replacing in the transmission besides the oil i will replace
What name are the OBD2 you use?
It looks like he is using the “Bluedriver”
Does this apply for the Automatic gear box also ?

Abdelrahman Abdelkader If the solenoids are good then you don’t have to change them just clean and fit them back. Make sure you test them properly to be 100% working otherwise the rest of the work will be useless. I wouldn’t risk it. The solenoids are not expensive so you better get a new set in.

Matheos Georgatzis solenoids goes bad because of oil contamination.
The dirt and debris from gearbox oil gets into the solenoids and seize them up.
Can you clean them and put them again or they must be replaced ? thanks for your answer !!
Matheos Georgatzis you can try to clean them I you want. They are not expensive though

Thank you, good video. I believe however you don't have to empty all the oil like you do. I just took out the 1 litre that came out through the first plug. That's enough that you can safely open the cover for the hydraulic block.
best to change all the oil anyway while the gearbox is getting fixed

I had Same problem. Just change your camshaft and crank sensors as this gearbox relies heavily on them.
I think this gearbox is cheap made and it's not reliable. Aisin is better
