Aiza is one of those artists here in the Philippines who sings to express, not to impress. Very good interpretation.
"Sa Ugoy Ng Duyan" is a music collaboration piece composed by Maestro Lucio San Pedro (1913-2002) and lyrics written by Levi Celerio (1910-2002) in 1948. Both of them were National Artists of the Philippines.
Million thanks to our Philippines' National artists! I am sure majority of Filipinos can relate to this great musical piece of art. Wow, kudos to Aiza Seguerra as she's giving justice with her melodic and angelic voice. Sheer perfection!!
Levi Celerio, a prolific lyricist and composer.
Many thanks for this info. Man, this is great music.
Here's the English Translation:
Those good old days, I pray won't fade
When I was young and in Mother's care
Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again
The song of love as she rocked my cradle.
In my deep and peaceful slumber
The stars watch over me in vigil
Life was like heaven in the arms of Mother
Now my heart longs for the lulling cradle.
Those good old days, I pray won't fade
When I was young and in Mother's care
Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again
The song of love as she rocked my cradle.
Lull me, Mother, in my dear old cradle
Oh, Mother.
Thank you for appreciating my translation :)
The song talks about a person missing his/her mum either because she is far away, has passed away or it could also be from a person who has so much problems as an adult and just wants to go back to being a baby cared for by his mum with not a worry in the world.
Waleska hit it spot on... it's a lullaby. Moms hum it to lul a baby to sleep. And in reunions, sometimes it's sung to lolas (grandmas) to honor them.🙂 the very last line 'o inaaaay...' is translated 'mommy....' like, calling out for her. whats 'quirky' about the lullaby is, it's not a mothers song to her child, but an older child's song to their mommy.😁
Was looking for someone to point this out. It's almost like a 'counter' lullaby.
thank you for this comment. Im thinking of how should i say this. im glad you commented it.
Very well said.
Aiza is an absolute story teller. I Love all of her music. Perfection. 👌👌😘😘
Sa ugoy ng duyan... My mom used to sing that song to my siblings. Brings back so many memories.
i see u everytime haha
Hahaha.
this song is a tribute for mothers..
Everytime I hear this song, I end up bawling my eyes out.. Gonna tell my parents I love them everyday.
its actually an old lullaby song. this song always make me tear up,it reminds me of a mothers endless love to their kids.
Aiza's voice is very enchanting and sweet in this song. I agree with Efra, in many things, less is more. 🥰🥰
It is indeed a lullaby. I used to sing this song to my children when they were infants to make them sleep, and literally in a swinging hammock (duyan). I love Aiza's rendition of this.
When our choir sang this in our US tour, the Fil Ams in the audience were all teary eyed afterwards because it not only reminds them of their mothers but also the Motherland. Lucio San Pedro was a famous composer and professor of the University of the Philippines College of Music and personally helped advise us before we went on tour.
Do you have a video of your choir singing it? I’d like to watch please.
Sana po my video po😘
You got my attention. Now I am so wanted to see your performance and the audience reactions. 😅
Please do tell or leave the link in the reply section.
Classic and iconic OPM lullaby song it was written and composed by 2 Filipino National Artists Maestro Lucio San Pedro( lyrics) and music By Levi Celerio during the 1940's my mother used to sing that song to my siblings to sleep..
I closed my eyes, I hug my self.. pat my shoulder while singing this lullaby... I feel my mother touched. The soft pat on the lower back.. I heared again the soft voice of my mother singing next to me on the bed.. or when I am sleepy and in the the cradle.. I still feel the love of my far away mom...
It’s like a beautiful day dream❤️
ayoko sa comment mo... pinaiyak mo ko 😭😭😭
Omg u r makin me cry.
Thanks for this.
Sa Ugoy ng Duyan is a Filipino Lullaby snd sometimes this song makes me teary eyed which I don't know why maybe because it has something to do with mothers.
Its a child singing her hopes that times doesn’t change, having her mother’s warmth always. It is that longing when you are grown up and wanting that familiar comfort and peace given by your mother.
I don't why but everytime I hear or sing Ugoy ng duyan I can't help but cry. Its a memorable piece of song for Filipinos(especially my generation and the one before me). The song has a great spot everyones heart maybe because of the lyrics meaning and its wonderfully made by 2 legend.
Thank you for this reaction. Just a few words in this song that would help you along:
Nanay - Mother
Duyan (doo-yan) - cradle
Bata (bā-tā) - child
Yakap (yā-kâp) - embrace
Nanay or ina is mother
Lucio San Pedro wrote this lullaby. He is a National Artist of the Philippines. This prestigious title is given to artists that embody our cultural heritage.
Ric Mercado the guitarist is the same one that played for Regine’s acoustic Till I Met You performance. His guitar adores the flag of his religion, Iglesia Ni Cristo. A homegrown Christian religion. The flag is admittedly similar to a Mexican and Italian flags.
Waleska has definitely nailed what the song is about and its influences/characteristics. Kudos to her! Our National Artists for Music are not called 'maestros' and music geniuses for nothing.
you're right about this song having that spanish feel on it (although it is a folkloric lullaby) because it was composed during those years when spanish influence was even more prevalent
You got it right, it's a lulluby...I couldn't control my tears listening to that lulluby song... how our mom took care of us and now she's gone, the memories still linger on🌫️💫🌠😢
You can either listen to this as a simple lullaby or as a song about missing one's country - where one was nurtured. Ugoy ng Duyan literally is the rocking (ugoy) of a crib (duyan). Duyan can also mean a hammock
You might want to watch Lea Salonga's cover of Ugoy ng Duyan. It's great that you're watching even more Filipino singers, but I think you're kinda losing out on not watching Ella Nympha! Her talent has been acknowledged abroad when she was just a young kid and she just sang her song on the Wish bus! Oh, and I'd be suuuuper amazed if anyone actually shares a video of the original singer as Ugoy ng Duyan was composed n 1948.
In the topic of parents in a song, i think you havent reacted to KZ TANDINGAN singing ANAK on the SINGER. The song has been translated to numerous language because the song is very relatable. You should check it out
Agree!
yas pleasee
Yes please!
Yes!
I learn to love more OPM because of you two and i thank you for that.
One of the best and underrated singers in the Philippines 🥰
Please check out Aiza “Ice” Seguerra and Noel Cabangon performing “Walang Hanggang Paalam” Live on Wish 107.5. Truly amazing and touching acoustic duo performance Have watched this multiple times and still gives me goosebumps each and every time!
This song is an example of a Kundiman a Filipino folkloric love song. I'd love to hear Gerphil Flores' take on this song someday. It'll most probably sound like most similar to the original song I bet.
Its still made me cry
Sa Ugoy ng Duyan and Ili Ili are the two Filipino lullubies that I keep hearing people sing, growing up.
Number 1 lullaby tagalog song love it
THE REMINDS ME OF MY MOM😢 SHE IS AT BELGIUM NOW, SHE WENT THERE SINCE WHEN I'M IN 5TH GRADE UNTIL NOW I'M IN 3RD YEAR COLLEGE SHE IS STILL THERE. I MISS BEING WITH HER DURING MY BIRTHDAYS AND MY WISH WHEN I GRADUATE AT COLLEGE IS I WANT HER TO ATTEND BECAUSE SHE IS NOT HERE SINCE WHEN I GRADUATED IN ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL.
SO GUYS PLEASE LOVE YOUR PARENTS NOW BECAUSE YOU ARE LUCKY BECAUSE YOU ARE WITH THEM. GODBLESS.
My grandparents also live in belgium, they left philippines to go there and cant go back because of covid :( i hope you meet your mom again
The FLAG u saw on the guitar is Actually Our CHURCH FLAG/LOGO, IGLESIA NI CRISTO.
#ProudINC here
Batang 90's will relate. I remember singing this song to my sibling to make them fall asleep. And that theme song of one classic morning cartoon ,Remy.
Aking ina, mahal kong ina
Pagmamahal mo oh aking ina
Yakap mo sa akin hinahanap ko
Init ng pag-ibig, kumot ng bunso
Ahh the nostalgia
Whenever I miss my mom, this is what I listen to. It always bring me fond memories of her. This is the first time that I heard Aiza's rendition because I often listen to Lea Salonga's version. This is hauntingly beautiful. 💜
Checkout #FreddieAguilar 's song "Anak"(child). This song was translated in 26 or 27 languages. It was so relatable, and loved by many musicians, singers around the world. And still a famous song in South Korea, Japan and here in the Philippines. I recommended this when you guys ask something new from your Filo fans.
It was also featured in Asia's Got Talent interpreted by the group "El Gamma Penumbra", wherein judges and viewers were in tears, and also the song is covered by our very own KZ Tandingan , she did 2 version the live performance she did in the show "The Singer" back in 2018 (with Mandarin lyrics) and the one she did here in the Philippines, in plain tagalog lyrics...
Yes please!!!! This is a beautiful song!!!!!
Totally agree
my friend efra! that is not a mexican flag! that is flag of IGLESIA NI CRISTO! a religion in the philippines, the guitarist is a member of inc! as usual, great reactions! stay safe and god bless you guys!
It's that ICONIC song that never fails to give you goosebumps without those mind blowing belts... No matter how many times I listen to Ugoy ng Duyan I still feel good chills
Lucio D. San Pedro is a National Artist of the Philppines. He is actually where I am from, my hometown of Angono, Rizal: The Art Capital of the Philippines. My section name was LDSP (go figure 😂) when I was in my 4th year of Art Highschool. I was schoolmates with his grand-daughter who sings like an angel by the way 😭🙏
They even have the music sheets/chords?(idk man hahaha ) for Ugoy ng Duyan immortalized as a mural along the walls of various houses in my cousin's neighborhood.
Great performance, especially on mother's day. God bless
Lucio San Pedro is a National Artist of the Philippines. And the song has in fact touched generations.
One of my favorite songs of all time. It’s timeless, enchanting and haunting. I love choir versions of this song too... the harmonies are elevating but soothing at the same time.
I'm Fan of both of you because of good reaction as always.
Aiza has an angelic voice.😍
Hi, guys! It's not the official translation because the translator did not want to claim that it is. She wrote it so that her non-Pinoy readers could understand the song. Now, I know this information first-hand because it's my translation. Thank you for reading it :)
Huhuhu im in tears 😭 I miss my mom 🥺 not seeing her for 11 years now.😥 I really pray I can go home soon.
For some reason, that song makes me tear up everytime i hear it. It is an old lullaby and grew up listening to this 💕
If you want something relaxing like this, try reacting to Freddie Aguilar or Noel Cabangon, their music is very comforting.
Band: URBANDUB
Song title: THE FIGHT IS Over (live)
Waleska had it right. It is a lullaby. The title literally means "to the rock of the cradle".
Here in the Philippines we have a type of singing what we call,HARANA, it's a kind of courtsmanship between a man playing a guitar and singing about his feeling for the girl that he loves along with his friends might also singing with him or playing a guitar and you'll notice on HARANA that it has a Spanish influence just like mariahchi in Mexico.
But you may also search about it so you could know more about harana.❤❤
Seguerra has a duet with Noel Cabangon on the wishbus. They both play the guitar. Walang Hanggang Paalam (Never Ending Goodbye). You will love its tenderness too
It is a national lullaby indeed! 'Ugoy sa Duyan' roughly translates to - the swinging of the cradle. For more info check this link - filipiknow.net/sa-ugoy-ng-duyan/
In another modern reading of the song, it refers to how the motherland nurtures her sons and daugthers so as to provide society with responsible and freedom-loving citizens of the nation. Remain safe you two!
This song makes me emotional. This song is just perfect with spanish guitar.
I love whenever you guys try to read the title and speak tagalog
This is a reaction video. But the song made me cry still. My mother died this Wednesday. Couldn't help crying.
Iloved.the voice.of.aiza
waleska is right! this is a lullaby and is very emotional 😭almost like a lullaby for the grown up more than for the baby
Try checking Ice and Noel Cabangon on woah bus also. So good acoustic jam of another classic opm song
Ice (Aiza) and Jake Zyrus (Charice) had a concert before. I hope you two can make a video reaction of their duets.
Por favor! Thanks
Every Filipinos know the melody of this masterpiece..
This is indeed a lullaby. Ugoy means the act of moving a swinging crib. Duyan - crib. This is a Tagalog lullaby. The Visayas and Mindanao also have their own lullabies.
Aiza's rendition is both soothing and a bit haunting, especially in the latter part when she ends the song.
Aiza is my favorite singer...
YESSs it’s a lullaby and yes it’s a Filipino folk, or maybe the “serenade” type Spanish or Portuguese lament, song.... you both are so sweet... yes yes there was a lot of exchange between the Philippines and Mexico, both Spanish colonies at that time... And I’ve never heard this performance, so thank you....btw she stuck to the original arrangement... Notice nobody in the audience is making any sound..
Oh my... "Sa ugoy ng duyan" ("From the swing of a hammock" (literal)) is a classic Tagalog lullaby song.
My heart has melted. This song makes me cry every single time.
I LOVEEE THIS SONGGGG
I LITERALLY AM IN LOVE....
LITERALLY THIS SONG IS SO ANGELICCC
Ugoy ng Duyan - written by Lucio San Pedro, and music by Levi Celerio. Both aritists are considered National Artists in the Philippines (the highest recognition an artist can get/awarded in the Philippines). It’s an old song, almost considered as an “Art Song” of Philippine music so sometimes this song is also being sung by Classical Singers in a recital in music school.
This song however was popularised as pop under Philippines’ Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Several interpretations have been done for this song, and one of the popular ones was done by Aiza (which is the one you’re listening to).
I cry whenever I hear this song :( It's my first time hearing Aiza's rendition because I have only ever heard this from my mom. Gosh, I cried while listening.
PLEASE also check out Sir Noel Cabangon!! you'll surely love him and his songs🥰 especially his original song "KANLUNGAN"💯💯💯 im having goosebumps whenever I listen to that song. its a very touching song 💕💕
So happy for both of you for your sincere reaction...whenever I hear this lullaby, it makes my heart joyful, and immediately reminds me of my mother's unconditional love. Absolutely a great feeling!♥️💖❤️
hi ... you also have to watch AIZA with NOEL CABANGON ... they are perfect!
Yes! Their performance on wish bus
Waleska ur such a bright beautiful woman! Yes it's an old iconic lullaby!
You hit it Waleska ❤️it’s mother undying lullaby song ❤️💯🔥
Many generations heard this majestic masterpiece and this lullaby still there 💖
this brings tears to me bec this song is dedicated for our mothers, its a lullaby ....and i miss mine so much
Listening to this music makes me welled up in tears ! Bringing back my childhood mem'ries when Tatay sings this song while Nanay lulling me and my sister to sleep. A picturesque that will never fade in my memory no matter how old i get. Now her 1 year death anniversary is coming up, this song made me miss her more- im flooding tears! Nothing can be compared to a Mother's love....
I can’t help but cry. I miss my mom so much and wish she were still here. When I gave birth to my son, she was already very ill and had only a few months to live. Despite her condition, she held my baby, put him to sleep, and hummed a lullaby. I was just there, watching them.
When I was a baby, my mom wasn't very affectionate, and I grew up knowing that my biological mom was actually my aunt. I always felt like an unwanted child, someone who wasn’t planned or expected. After I got pregnant, I left home, but I returned when I heard about her situation, knowing she was dying. I saw how she regretted her absences and her failure to treat me as her daughter. I understand now that she must have had her reasons. 😢😥😢
TH-cam recommends me this video today and today is exactly Mother's Day 🥺 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO MY MOM AND TO ALL MOMS OUT THERE
Tagalog song masterpiece of music
Song for mother and child..makes me cry ...love u mom
This made me cry so hard..haven't heard this..this lullaby goes straight to my heart everytime I hear this..
One of the best composer of my time, in the fifties.
That song is about a mother’s song.
"I hope my mother's song doesn't fade away, a song of love while I'm in the cradle."
I agree to the commenter who suggested Side A's Forevermore. One of the "The Must" to listen to when it comes to OPMs. Few years ago David Archuleta even covered some of the English OPMs we have here and he said that his favorite is Forevermore by Side A.
Thank you for featuring this song.... Love this song so much.... Please also try reviewing HOME by Aiza Seguerra...
This song holds so many memories in my heart
*_lea salongga has this version of sa ugoy ng duyan when she was 5 or 6 yrs old. she was already great singer that time. you can check her nostalgic rendition._*
This is a folk song. By Legendary PH national artists' Lucio San Pedro and of course "The" Levi Celerio who creates amazing melodies. "Ugoy ng Duyan" or "Lulling Cradle". Different artists have recorded the song, most popular is Ms. Regine Velasquez, Lea Salonga, and recently Aiza Seguerra. Find them and compare, if you have the time.
It translates below:
LULLING CRADLE
Those good old days, I pray won't fade
When I was young and in Mother's care
Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again
The song of love as she rocked my cradle.
In my deep and peaceful slumber
The stars watch over me in vigil
Life was like heaven in the arms of Mother
Now my heart longs for the lulling cradle.
Those good old days, I pray won't fade
When I was young and in Mother's care
Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again
The song of love as she rocked my cradle.
Lull me, Mother, in my dear old cradle
Oh, Mother.
