  • The Ami is a tiny new small ‘vehicle’ from Citroen it’s been designed to be as cheap a possible and easy to maintain, with interchangeable panels and very basic construction. It’s planned to be used a bit like how you would use a bike-sharing scheme. It has a range of 48 miles and a top speed of 28mph. Could this be the future of city transport? Here in the Cotswolds, there's lots of tight twisting bends, where the Ami would likely tip over, so I'm glad they took it on the track. These tiny, short wheel base vehicles (Smart For Two, G-Wiz) never have been very stable platforms. I didn't feel in danger of tipping a G-Wiz though. Citroen need to do more work on the chassis tuning, I think.

  • @manoliss9554
    @manoliss9554 2 ปีที่แล้ว +260

    They judged too hard. This is a vehicle to go from A to B inside a city and cost 1 euro for 100 klm distance. It saves you from the rain you can dress well and not injured from a small accident. With the bicycle you can't do anything of that

    • @bomcabedal
      @bomcabedal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Moreover, it's not competing with _that_ bicycle; it's against your everyday cycle that you use to get to work and the supermarket at a far more leisurely pace. Performance is soooo overrated.

    • @ravennexusmh
      @ravennexusmh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bomcabedal THAT cycle is a pretty old (2014?) moda with heavier then stock wheels and what looks like old ultegra 2x10 gearing, worth maybe £250-400 on ebay these days. it is an everyday bike, the sort of thing people buy as a winter/work bike

    • @bomcabedal
      @bomcabedal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ravennexusmh Not in Europe though, and that's where the Ami is mainly targeted towards. Here, we use more utilitarian bikes, not geared towards speed at all, but rather towards practicality. Also, I think your assumption that an Ultegra-based bike from 2014 cannot be used for serious riding anymore is rather debatable. Most people don't buy these bikes every year, or even every decade. And it'll still go up a mountain pretty well.

  • @sevensixtysteve8662
    @sevensixtysteve8662 2 ปีที่แล้ว +295

    Bit of shame that the Ami was judged for its stability (or lack of) on a circuit when Citroen explicitly stated it is not engineered for this purpose. Cheap, lightweight transport like this that could genuinely reduce the environmental impact of urban transport should be applauded and encouraged. While we are up to our necks in overweight, over-techy e-suvs that damage the planet as much as the wallets of the people willing to pay the monthly PCP, innovative solutions like this are rare and could stay that way unless we change the way we think about transport and how we adapt to a newer, more sustainable era. If I lived in a city, the Ami would be perfect. Congratulations Citroen, glad to see you haven't lost the ability to surprise and innovate.

    Great little quadricycle. My 14 years old girl drives one of those since September... and she does appreciate not having to wait outside for the bus in the cold or being dependent on buses, not having to drive a scooter - especially when on rainy or windy days, driving along with a friend to wherever she want's to go (as long as it is in a 10 to 15 miles radius... otherwise she might not be able to come back home afterwars), and so on. Since september, some other ami appeared in our little french town... it seems to me the ami is already a success.
    Well, I must say I had to occasion to drive it myself from time to time, and it's fun and safe... as long as you don't forget you're driving not a car, but a light quadricyle. BTW Vicky, one is not supposed to drive like a maniac in city-centers ;-)
    And even if the ami has been known to have some issues in the beginning, I don't have a single problem to report until now.

    I love the concept of this. Unfortunately we don’t live in a city, and to leave our rural village requires using a 60+ mph road. While I’d be happy to pootle along at 28 mph, I don’t think it would be safe. At least, not until everyone else drives Amis. It’ll be very interesting to see if Citroen can stretch some of the Ami’s ideas up towards smaller “real” cars, like an electric C1. I’d be happy with 50 or 60 mph, and a couple of airbags. Even our old 2CV, while not exactly ideal for it, could manage the occasional motorway trip when it had to.

    It seems like the Ami was judged based on its stability. Thinking about it tho, they went all speed in a corner and expected the tiny vehicle to stay stable. You have shown the Ami as unstable and unsafe. But wait a sec this is either bad communication or maybe simply straightforward BS, you have put that vehicle in a situation it wasn't designed for, and then ofc because you can you gave it low numbers like zero for being an unsafe car. BUT IT'S NOT A CAR. Feels like you've tested a shopping cart in a skate board competition. I was watching this video thinking it would be educative and entertaining. But I'm left confused. Clarkson would have done something similar cause SPEED and POWER!! and Hammond would have crashed it but seriously what the f....is this video? Was this video aimed as a joke. You should probably check the youtube channels such as Carwow, Car Throttle, and see how they reviewed the Ami.

At 100% efficiency (which is impossible) it will draw 1.8 kW from the power socket, more likely to be closer to 2.5 kW or even higher. Remember Lithium batteries charge to 80% very quickly and trickle the last 20% or so. Therefore I estimate it's drawing between 2.5 kW and 3.0 kW from the wall socket. That's 50% more than an electric kettle with such a long power cord that looks too thin for the job.

    It's so funny how this really upsets car people. I'm very much a car person and I think this thing is absolute genius, if weren't so many maniacs on the road I could imagine the sheer fun of using this as a sole form of transport for short journeys.
    The fact it almost toppled is probably a good thing, a teenager driving this would certainly learn how to be more cautious and if it does topple it's hardly going to be very dangerous.
    Bit of a shame really to see reviewer's ridicule something that really is the definition of the car to begin with by being accessable to the most amount of people and also cheap to buy and maintain. To my eyes these people really aren't true car people in the sense of what the car was meant to represent.
    Imagine being allowed to drive one of these at 14 with no license, simply opens up doors to more people for easily accessible freedom.
    Such a cool concept really and is very French in its implementation, a nation which in my mind is the absolute pinnacle of automotive excellence when it comes to personality and soul.
    I have to own one, right up there in my book with the Citroen DX Pallas, just at a different end of the spectrum and an absolute gem for it's targeted use.

    Hilarious (considering that they drive such fast cars on this show) that a 28 mph quadricycle is what scared Vicki.

    It's not an alternative to walking or riding. It's an alternative to a car. It may or may not be a good alternative, but that's the idea.

    Ami should be a winner for kids and grandparents. Just the market who needs mobility not a blasted cold wet bicycle!

    Daft review. And next time, we will see a review of an F1 car going through a pedestrian zone and wonder why it stalls all the time...

      We are currently attempting to drive the whole of the French Riviera in a Citroen AMI. This week we have driven on France’s most dangerous road to the highest coastal village in Europe, Sainte Agnes.

    Even with a Farari nobody corners that aggressively at that speed in the city….
