EDIT: That and it saved them a lot of time in actually writing a better story. Not to say that the story of Fallout 3 was bad, but there was room for improvement.

Well Ox, you ask "Why can't we just go back the way we came?" But remember at 29:00 we drop down from the antenna bridge & there's no ladder or stairs back up to the floor above.
Either that, or the fact that they talk about how the mutants are regrouping behind you & are getting ready for another attack & even with the ammo delivery they're almost out

Pro tip: Wait to complete this quest until Paladin Tristan has tasked you to collect Super Mutant Blood Samples. You can even get samples from mutants already dead when you arrive. Great way to get a large amount of caps.
This quest is the best at lvl 6 when you only have a reinforce vault suit. Using a good sniper rifle could get you out that fight pretty good actually.
I have never heard of that quest in all my time playing this game.
From having to collect scrap metal, blood packs, sugar bombs, etc. as well as having the law bringer and fortune finder perks, I’m pretty sure I have enough ways to make caps.

The Reilly's Rangers are some of the most awesome groups in the capital wasteland. I love their armour (light and medium armour with somewhat good stats are hard to find) and I just loved Reilly.
They may be mercs, but they are competent and damn loyal. At least, she is. This is a rare perk in the wastelands.
They only do moral contracts as well, not like the talon company.
I kinda wish they had more screen time though

A Face For a Skull I know,but I reference OxBoxs's Aliens:Colonial Marines jar. Great,now I owe them a dollar.
Two things: Another option with the preacher is to just run through the alley in a zig-zag pattern, avoiding the mines you can see. If you have full health and full power armour, you'll survive. Near death, but alive.
Two, a very subtle thing the developers put in the game.... Donovan is a barely functioning alcoholic. Nothing blatant in the game. But I loved being part of the team. Only faction in the game where all the members like you. Every other faction either tries to kill you, has obnoxious members who do a poor job of tolerating you, or simply uses you. But not the Rangers.
Spent a lot of time in their base. Stored a bunch of supplies and gear there. Even slept there. But I noticed that any stored alcohol was always gone when I returned. Even if I was gone for a very short amount of time. Then while trying to move a bottle of booze onto a table, Donovan snatched it from me and chugged it all down. Couldn't believe it! That's why all the booze kept disappearing but the food and water I put in the fridge never did. Just one of those hidden surprises in the game the developers put in. Also, yeah; went with the armour. Best non-power armour in the game, looks cool, and I get to perform missions while wearing it. Thus making the Rangers look good.
I liked the Rangers and this quest and happily accepted the armor and mapped for them. However I did not really hang out at their HQ, for my Megaton room was quite comfy and even my ow repair skill was better than Donovan's at any time.
Funny how Riley is a mercenary herself, but acts shocked and insulted everytime you ask for a compensation or a reward.
Aside from this, I really hope you are doing the Dunwich Building next. By far the best and most interesting location in all of Fallout 3.
Like I would have liked Rielly myself, however she acts like she doesn't understand the way the wastes works when it comes to doing a job. Like she and I aren't friends, and you're asking my character to do something extremely dangerous, yeah I want the reward upfront. She's just a hard-ass and a touch dumb thinking she can get away without having to pay for the service I provided in rescuing her men. People she endangered in the first place. Then gets upset again when you don't want to help her with the ruins. Like yeah Reilly you're a pretty shitty person for that and I'm not one of your guys so don't order me around. However, I do enjoy how she cares deeply for her men and would risk all even while injured that is so compassionate, and shows what a wonderful person she really is to her men. She takes her faults and heavily wares them, she's a great leader and friend to her men and that I can really appreciate about her character. And the fact she reminds me of that mom from Terminator.

Did you know? If you encounter Reilly's Rangers on the rooftop without starting their quest, Butcher will always die from some attack, and then, the remaining two Rangers become hostile towards you as if it was your fault.

I remember doing this quest. It took me a while but I finally got it. I chose the gun instead of the armor. The most challenging part was during the part with all the super mutants in the street and the talon company as well.
I'm from Australia and am currently replaying FO3 only because I found your channel a few months ago and it brought back so much nostalgia. I ran into Reilly at Underworld not knowing about the Rangers radio transmission. Didn't enter the basement of the hospital as you did but the front door of the hospital so will go back to collect loot from the basement. Brick died on the way out so I looted Eugene and her armour then chose the armour as my reward to repair the looted one. I now use Eugene often and repair it with other miniguns I loot! Loved this mini quest and your videos, as always, are awesome!
My favorite minigun in the game. Oh, and the quest is good too, running fight against superior number with friendly NPCs made me wonder what playing F3 in coop would be like. Still hoping for Legion videos from their perspective after all those NCR vids.

the Reilly's Ranger side quest was my favorite side quest in all of the fallout games. The combat armor is godly and the quest is available at any time. It would take me from 3-5 hours to loot everything from the metro to the hospital, and the statesman.

Reilly's Rangers was one of my favorite quests, it felt like an action movie the first time I did it.
Riley’s Rangers is one of my top favourite BGS factions of all time! Great cast, lucrative rewards, and a satisfying experience.

Reilly's Rangers aside from the Brotherhood is my favorite Fallout faction. I had so much fun during my first playthrough of this mission, I was playing on the hardest difficulty and I was so not prepared for the amount of Supermutants I ran into. I ran out of ammo so often I found myself using the explosives more than ever, damn near killed myself quite a few times. Ah good times.
I'm so glad he pointed out about how it was so possible to go back the way that you literally just cleared out! been saving this video for when I was able to go back through it quest again myself after so long and when he said that's impossible I thought I thought the same, nice work Ox
Probably one of the most hilarious dialogue trees in the entire game, possibly all of Fallout. I enjoy this quest and is easily in my top 5 favorites in Fallout 3. The armor is so rewarding early on in the game before you learn to use Power Armor. My build is usually the armor with Sydney's 10mm Ultra SMG. Either that or a Chinese Assault Rifle.
I run with the ranger armor, the baseball cap, and the assault rifle from the op anchorage DLC

Unfortunately, my playthrough of Fallout 3 was riddled with bugs. I was fighting CTDs (regardless of whatever fix I tried, anti-crash mods, .ini file edits, all of it) all the way through. I did manage to rush through the main quest line, but the game being so unstable made it a chore to play. All of Ox's F3 videos are showing me amazing new things that I didn't know were there.
Can you imagine the average CoD/FO4 kid of today trying to figure out FO1/2/or Tactics? You're making me laugh :D
Also, are you aware you can gain control of your whole party in combat with Fallout Fixt? Ian can use the sub machinegun now :)

Hey, I know this video is already a few months old, but a few weeks ago I did the quest where I escaped the enclave in Black mountain and I met Donovan (I think) out near a garage nearby. He died fighting a group of enclave soldiers. He has a wrench on his body which I presume you can bring back to Reilly as evidence of his death. (I assume it was Donovan, I forgot the name because hes the repair guy. Also, I did the Reilly's rangers quest before I got to black mountain if that changes anything).

I've seen many of your fans asking for Gary Vault or known as Vault 108 so I wish to support them as well. I honestly don't mind which Vault you choose from the Capital Wasteland, but I wish you do a video about any one of them. Well, hopefully you read this. The fallout 3 vault have quests attached to them. Oxhorn has a strategy to get them all done, but it involves doing other quests first, as the stories are all linked, and will make more sense if he does them in certain order. He said this on stream last week. Thought you might like to know.

OH HELLO THERE have you seen most people when it comes to firearms? They don't know the difference between a .22 and a 5.56 rifle. It's borderline fucking retarded. So yeah, this whole thing with needing a perk that relates to knowing firearms makes a ton of sense.
It's a worthless perk unless you are A - on XBOX/PS with no means to disable the level cap. And B - Don't own the other half of the game labeled as DLCs. Or at least have Broken Steel. The end of the game that wasn't included because people are somehow still buying games near launch despite the obvious advantage of waiting.

While the companions in 3 are generally more... rudimentary than later games, Riley is definitely One of the characters I wish could be a companion.

I love Butchers voice actor. I'm not saying it's the most award winning acting in the history of the universe... But it's a video game. The amazing part though is his epic voice... He sounds like someone who should be reading you a tornado warning.. Or voicing the Emergency Alert System.. Imagine that voice saying "This is a test of the emergency alert system, this is only a test"... Lol a lot of people might not know what the hell I'm on about.. But those who know, know. RIP Gus Travers. You may have only ever voiced some fallout characters. But that still means you live on forever in countless playthroughs and TH-cam videos seen by millions.
I think the pillows thing is a reference to Morrowind and the pillow hoarder. Also I did RP as a ranger. xD I loved the armor so much that I wanted to be an official member.
If you agree to map the Capital Wasteland for them you are considered to be a member by all of Reilly's Rangers. They pretty much tell you that after you joined up Reilly got her confidence back and the company returned to their usual pace.
An epic tale within the dangerous wastes that is Fallout 3. 'Reilly's Rangers' was one of my favourite adventures that could be instigated by your visit to the chop shop in Underworld, or stumbling into the emergency transmission near the capitol building.
Oh yes, the hotel journey was one of the longest, most painstaking journeys in any game I've played. I didn't think it would take anywhere near that long. You could probably go through the main story in the time it takes to get there.
around 15:15 ... I for one would sincerely appreciate seeing an Oxhorn vid on the various metro systems in Fallout 3. Not just the loot and enemies but moreover which tunnels are necessary to traverse to get to where you need to go! Thanks Ox, you rock!

I remember doing this quest. I accidentally walked into it. I was exploring. And I saw the building with the tower the fell into it. And I was curious to see if I can reach it. I did and kept exploring but I was more curious about the dead muties and all the traps. I took it slow. Sneaky. Surprised by the baby trap. Found the squad up top and helped them. And met Riley. Great mission. Love replaying it. Still Riley acted like I spoke to her before saving her squad. Which I didn’t. Never met her till I got back to her base.
Oxhorn I'm curious as to what comes after Fallout for your channel. I mean, we're not nearly done with 3 and New Vegas lore, but you already explored like, 90% of what Fallout 4 has to offer. You could do mod reviews, but that's kind of a crowded market with people like Juicehead, AlChestBreach, etc.

I love the touch of including the bodies of super mutants while you make your way to the rangers. It shows that the rangers don’t fuck around and they weren’t just dumb mercenaries who say they are hot shit

ahh, I was wondering about Reilly's Rangers because of the patch on the Creation Club new Military Backpack in Fallout 4. I hadn't played all of Fallout 3, so did not come across this quest or Rangers at all. This is an awesome video. Kind of wished that they'd made a cameo of some sorts in Fallout 4 now. lol

I did the ranger mission and saved everyone but didn’t get to their compound for a while. It was hard for me to find my way in this game. It’s why I didn’t get to Galaxy News Radio before finding James (Three Dog told me about Hamilton Hideaway as reward for helping him) and why I took a bunch of Rad-X to swim to Rivet City.
Brick always cracks me up. Reilly's Rangers are my favorite faction in FO3.
I always thought of Starship Troopers when I hear Riley's Rangers. You know, Rico's Roughnecks, Riley's Rangers. Both had similar situations of being the baddest group around and both were outnumbered in hostile territory. Kind of cool if that was the reference they were going for. Always thought 3 had a lot of depth to it with their side missions. Same with 4.
I loved this quest. Thanks for making a video on it! For the next big dlc week, you should do either point lookout or the Pitt.
The way he cuts a scene right when he pops a super mutant in the head, is priceless.

Same here. I always wore their armor and it actually had very good stats.
Sometimes if you are reaching rangers on the roof too slow you can find one or two of them dead - killed in the last attack of super mutants. Happened with me twice. It depends on your luck. Especially if you start looting mutants and everything else on the roof

I can never get enough of the fallout games I've been a huge fan since discovering fallout 3 years ago and I actually just started playing this game again and I ran into that alley with the mines and I actually tried approaching it slowly from the other side and somehow set them all off without getting hurt and the preacher was gone aswell. keep up the awesome work Oxhorn 👍
Geez I hated all the tunnel crawling in this game . I avoided D.C. like it was the plague. New vegas was a breath of fresh air. Literally and figuratively.
So you hate RPG's in general I'm guessing. Dungeon crawling is an integral part of them, without it you have a casualised talking simulator.
7777electric new vegas wasn't all underground. Neither was skyrim. Fallout 1 and 2 and tactics weren't underground either.
What I am saying is you spend way too much time in the metro in 3

New Vegas also had very few dungeons, meaning, in that respect, it was all "above ground". It makes it very boring if you're interested in drawn out engagements. Beyond that, most of Skyrim's dungeons were underground, or at least had underground sections to them.
Ox, the reason you can't go back through the hotel the way you came is that radio tower that crosses the street. You had to drop down, and there's no way to climb back up on top of it.

The Rangers are one of the few things I liked about 3... I really wish they'd been included in 4.

I chose the Ranger Armor... this is truly a great set of armor. It is rather heavy but the spread of attributes is hardly matched. With the S.P.E.C.I.A.L boost +1 Luck, perk points of Small Guns +10, and a V.A.T.S. boost with +5 AP is a very eclectic spread and is very formidable. Loved this armor with a Sheriffs hat.
