  • MY STORY.
This video has been a long time coming and I always knew I wanted to make this video to show people there is hope. I tried not to delve to deep into the feelings I felt at that time in my life but they will stay with me forever and I hope I never revisit them.
With the recent deaths of Kate Spade, Avicii and the loss of Sophie Gradon (which is not specified if it was related to mental health but there has been speculation surrounding her dealings with online trolls) I chose to push this video live today rather than a usual Vlog.
If it helps just one person, I'm glad I made it.

Homelessness is real and most young adults experience it at some point or another. I too couldn't stand my parents and anywhere besides home was a plus. So my car did it for 2 months. I am now living in a studio apt and have saved loads of money, not bad for a 26 yr old female👏👏👏. I wouldn't change my journey for anything, not even my 150 sq ft apt. Waaaaay to go Lydia 💖💖💖

You are so brave to talk about your experience and raise the issues surrounding mental health. Your such a beautiful soul Lydia and you should be proud of how far you have come.

Hi Lydia, Unfortunately, people let their ego's take over there lives, they judge others, blame others for their problems and think that the world owes them something but once people stop letting their ego control their lives and they start treating people with kindness, respect and they become more mindful of other people feeling then they find the peace that they are looking for. God bless you as this is such a hard topic for people to speak about. As I have a son who has Aspergers, I put myself in his shoes and battled with him through all his problems, his anxiety and depression from the bullying at school took a toll on him but when he wasn't able to battle it I stood up for him and yes it took time, years actually but now he is in his twenties, he has achieved so much in the last couple of years and I am so proud of the young man he has become, he now has people around him that help and support him and he is in a much better place. Peace and Love to you and your family xx

I will never understand people who leave nasty comments and put people down. Does it make them feel better about themselves? How do they go about their daily business knowing they’ve done that? God, I sound like Steve naive but I just do not get it. I have had to take anti depressants over a very long period. I have a profoundly disabled child and life is hard. I have a lot of good times, don’t get me wrong but there are a lot of challenges and worries about the future etc. I would like to try therapy because being on drugs forever is not a great prospect.

    • @magdalenakuffel3213
      @magdalenakuffel3213 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

me neither; I really don't understand why would you want to dedicate your time to comment someone in a nasty way... I mean, I would be a hypocrite if I said I never left any "negative" comment - meaning a comment in which you disagree, but there are different ways of expressing that. Internet trolls don't even have a point in what they are commenting, they just want to hurt...
I am always thinking that they are just lonely, miserable people... but at times, I really have a feeling that people get pleasure from hurting others...

I know its so cliche' but honestly- people only try to pull you down because they're beneath you. Your life is SO wonderful. I think people can't stand that your life seems to be so wonderful so they try to bring you down. Another thing- "When people cant control YOU, they try to control how others see you." You have over 600 THOUSAND people that honestly care what you do on a daily basis and the clothes you put on. That's crazy. And amazing and no small feat! So much LOVE to you!

Lydia, this is one of your very best! Thank you for being so open and honest. I, too have experienced anxiety and panic attacks. You were not exaggerating when you said you feel like you were going to die. I have done a lot of work (cognitive/behavioural therapy). One thing that was recommended to me was to not watch or read anything that is upsetting. No news, no newspapers, no scary movies, no emotional movies. These things cause the neural pathways that have been formed in your brain to reinforce/strengthen a “negative loop” that you can’t get off of, no matter how hard you try. When we get into a heightened emotional state , it causes your limbic system and negative neural pathways to be deepened/strengthened’. So you’re brain goes into “fight or flight” for the smallest reason. Once you feel emotionally stronger, you can go back to them. (Personally, I have chosen not to look at any of that stuff. I am happier for it.)You have helped many people by talking about your own journey! I sincerely thank you! 😊

I have been following you for the longest time and to be honest at first it was because of the flash designer brands you love to wear. However, as I began to further watch your videos and watch your channel grow I'm so happy I clicked onto your video. Not only do I mutually love fashion but you are so humbling to watch and put a smile on my face with your personality. [I feel like I know you!!] I'm so happy you put this video up not only because of how important this topic is but the way you articulated yourself and even this little insight of your thoughts is so eye opening because no one is perfect. Exposing yourself like this just reminds me that it's okay to have hiccups or down days but it's more important to pick yourself up. I really appreciate this video because I felt that I could relate with your explanation of having a 'pajama day to relax and rewind' and the importance of it being okay to put yourself first. I adore you so much and I definitely think these kinds of videos are really important and [you were so genuine about the topic, and I don't know if I'm making sense but I felt like I was listening to a friend give advice] thank you xx

So glad you opened up about this! The moment you started talking about yoga, it rang true to my experience as well. After battling breast cancer, yoga (breathing) was the only thing that would help reduce the crippling stress of treatment for cancer. Now that I am a facilitator for women battling breast cancer, I can not stress how important it is to take your mental health seriously and am proud to be able to get them the help they need. Bravo Lydia!!!

Great video! Very happy that you include this sort of content as well on your channel :D I like how you emphasize that mental health issues are not necessarily a "life sentence". It can be very overwhelming to hear that everywhere and considering most people go through episodes or periods of mental health issues during their lives, it is not necessarily the case for them. This does not mean to say that I don't appreciate how people also emphasize and normalize long-term mental-health problems and how to deal with them too, but I think this is a positive addition that many neglects to mention. You manage to take a positive yet serious take on even such a grim subject, and it is nice to learn more about you :)

I’ve suffered with crippling stomach issues for about 13 years. I’ve been to every doctor I could find, I’ve tested for every single stomach related problem in the world, I even had my gallbladder removed and received little to go relief. Recently I found a doctor who actually LISTENED to me, she tested me for every little thing, did an upper endoscopy, found little to nothing. Until about two months ago she asked me if I suffer with anxiety, and the answer is YES! But I thought I always had good control over it, I would either not put myself in situations that would make me panic, or I’d learn to breathe through it (like you said) but in my head I could control it. WRONG! She prescribed me 25mg the smallest dose) of a mild anti anxiety medication to take every night before bedtime and my stomach problems disappeared. I’m floored, I had no idea how much my anxiety was controlling my life, it was making me physically ill 3-5 days a week to the point where I was living my life around my stomach. It’s insane how many people actually have mental health issues however mild or severe. I’m so glad you (and me!) found a solution! I may try yoga and meditation myself!

This speaks to me so much, Lydia! I've been learning how to take care of myself more by saying no, talking to my friends and taking self-care days (which is still SO weird to me). I feel you on making changes in terms of keeping certain people in your life. It's true that the top 5 people you surround yourself with is who you're influenced by and who you become. I've had to make those changes as well and I agree, it's not that the people I've distanced myself from are bad, I did it to protect myself while allowing room for me to grow. Inner strength comes from not caring about what others think and knowing that you and your loved ones know the real you. That is being rooted deep in your identity is all about. Your genuineness and being open is why I love YOU! I hope you know that even with the negativity that comes at you on a daily basis that you know your followers care about you and your well-being. Positivity will always outweigh the negative in life so if you ever have one of those days again, just remember that you are LOVED.

So much love for this woman. Best Vlog Ever. 💕 ‘Mental health is not a life sentence.’ So true. My anxiety is now my long lost friend. I’ve learned to love it as it’s part of me which I created, but I no longer see them anymore. I💜LEMG

Lydia, I always enjoy your videos and it's not only because of the content but also because of your personality. I think it takes a lot of courage to be a youtuber and to be yourself in front of the camera. Thank you for letting me know you through TH-cam. I also don't know where my path will take me and I often feel uncertainty and sometimes anxiety but I know I must walk on my path because I just know there is a deeper meaning behind this. When I heard you talking about your path I felt I wasn't the only one experiencing this and I hope my comment will make you feel supported :).

I have literally never related more to a video in my life! Your whole sleep anxiety story is what I get throughout exam periods. Starting in sixth form, and now when I take exams for my career. Its so eye opening that you have gone through the exact same thing. Its so frustrating when other people say 'just go to sleep, its not hard!', I felt like no one understood. Its like your body is exhausted but your brain is 100 miles an hour in a state of sheer panic. I have countless all nighters where i don't sleep at all, I wouldn't wish it on anyone!

I relate to this video so much. Anxiety and Depression has become a popular topic to open up about on youtube over the years but this particular type of anxiety has not been touched on too much. I suffered from sleep anxiety for almost 2 years. No doctors appointments, medications, therapists, apps, reading, hot baths were able to help me. The feeling of my "I might die trying" haunted me EVERY SINGLE DAY. I honestly believe adapting to a healthier lifestyle and working out saved my life. By healthier lifestyle I also mean cutting toxic people out of my life and living on my own terms. Unfortunately, I can't say that I have moved passed it because it does creep it's way back to me sometimes but I can definitely say that i've learnt to fight it. Thanks for sharing your experience, Lyd. REALLYYY means alot! xx

Actually cried. I'm a super positive positive person with very little understanding about mental health issues first hand, but my husband has had struggles for the last few years and all I could do is just be available for him. I'm so glad you spoke about this, mental health is STILL a bit of a taboo subject for some reason. We all have times we aren't quite right, there are no exceptions.

As a nurse, I commend you for your courage to share and make us all aware that we are not alone and there are avenues for assistance. Hugs to you- you have been a favorite for quite a while.

Asking for help is crucial. You never have to deal with something alone, whether you reach out to your family, someone at school, your doctor, someone at your church or local community center, there is always someone who can listen. Getting into therapy during the first year of my PhD was critical if I was going to survive my program. Thank you for talking about this Lydia! xx

Thank you for sharing! So true what you said about coping with breathing & meditation. I discovered this recently during the pregnancy of my 2nd child. I've mastered breathing to the point where those around me didnt realize I was in labour... I just calmly told my husband "Its time!".
Right now I'm working on who I am surrounding myself with.

Thank you Lydia for making this video. I love your spirit. You're so real, and knowing that you went throu what you did and came out the other side does bring hope to me and I am sure to all those that follow you that may be going throu difficult times. I believe the more sensitive you are the more life can become overwhelming at times. You gave us a series of very important tools to use during these times to overcome the emotional overload: yoga, breathing, meditation, exercises, loving support people around, professional help, faith in the path. I truly appreciate you, YOU ARE GIFT IN MY LIFE! Thank you!

Lydia....From the day that I found your channel, which wasn’t very long ago, you have inspired me so much.
This video regarding mental health really touched me as I’ve recently been through what I would call the worst days/months of my life.
However I’ve managed to pick myself up with a clear head and see the positive in every bad situation I have experienced.
It’s what’s made me grow as a person and understand who I am as a person.
I don’t know exactly where I’m going in terms of career or life in general but I know I’ll make it.
I was always told by close friends and family “never give up what ever you do, those who matter don’t mind & those that mind don’t matter.
I’ve also learnt not to take things so seriously.
From this video alone you’ve probably helped and inspired so many people and you should be so proud, proud of who you are and where you’ve come from whatever your journey has been.
I don’t know you personally but I think your a beautiful person inside and out.
Keep up the good work my lovely xxx
    (Sorry for the long message)

Lydia, I know how hard it is to talk about mental health. For me when I was diagnosed with anxiety & had to start medicine, I thought I was crazy.. because no one in my family ever talked about it. So to find out that my mom & sister had the same thing made me feel better, because I realized that I’m not alone. I also, want to thank you for all that you do & how beautiful you are inside & out ( that’s the way you come across to me in vlogs) . I know you are an inspiration to so many & you just helped someone realize that they are not alone. So truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are truly amazing. Hope you have a wonderful day! Also, I just wanted to say how I love you & Ali together! I wish you nothing but success & May God bless you all! Xx

When you share of yourself, your struggles and challenges, as well as some options of how you learned to cope and pull through, you offer hope and ideas to those that are experiencing life challenges or even similar struggles. Life can be incredibly difficult at times and it's always uplifting when someone reaches out and helps you find a little light at the end of a dark tunnel. Bravo for your bravery and generosity in sharing some of your darker moments, and in so doing, being someone else's light. Well done, Lydia!

That’s why I usually stay up as late as possible to be as tired as possible. Also good for you that you‘ve overcome it!

Omg Lydia, this is my sixth day not sleeping and NOONE seems to understand how great an impact it has on your health/lifestyle.it is,my sleeping issues are related to diazepam also. My doctor prescribed me them after a traumatic event, yet after a span of fourteen days I decided to stop my prescription. God I was in for a much harder time. It was almost physically impossible to function and persevere with my regular daily routine. Paranoia, anxiety and dysfunctional SLEEPING patterns. OMG, this was rough and I wouldn't recommend this prescribed medication to anyone, these tablets aren't commonly prescribed now but this was a couple of years ago and my sleeping pattern is very much still disrupted. Thanks for sharing, it's good to know your pre not alone! Xxx
