Nerdiest episode ever, hope you dig it guys! I think I will try to edit the episodes more for a faster pace in the future, still learning. More interesting Opeth Gear Detective episodes coming out in the future, AS WELL as a new interesting collaboration that I have in the works.
You are an absolute scholar, fantastic video! The Celestion greenbacks make a lot of sense since Opeth has a lot of classic/80's hard rock influence. You can see in some of their live gig videos that they seem to be using Synergy cabs that come stock with 2x V30s and 2x greenbacks. Of course this is unconfirmed! :) Like another poster said, the speakers in the Vox seem to be Celestion blue alnicos. They seem to dig the Voxy jangle to the clean guitars, since the clean guitars on Ghost Reveries were recorded with a hybrid Vox amp (the Cambridge maybe?). These videos are a gift to all us prog gear nerds, and I actually like the slower pacing :)
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad it resonated with you! Yes, the Greenbacks were a total "duh" moment for me. About the Vox amp on Ghost Reveries, I am pretty sure that it was a Vox AD120VTH. You can spot the back of it for a brief second on the Making of Ghost Reveries.
@@lordgraga No way, really? :o I didn't even consider the Vox digital hybrid amps. I'm having a hard time accepting that my favourite clean tone of all time was a digital amp! :D I don't doubt it at all though, I guess it just goes to show that I shouldn't be a purist about good guitar tone! Still, mind = blown. Thank you for this gold nugget of info. I'll be looking forward to your upcoming videos. Cheers from Finland!
@@tipston3366 I know, it messes with my head too! However, I feel like the magic lies in the speaker selection more than anything else, and since AD120VTH is a head then it could've been paired with anything to get that magic sound. Look up that guy Aaron Rash's videos about his Nirvana tone chasing. I wouldn't chase the amp, I would chase the cab!
They are. I am actually collaborating with The Other John Browne on doing data analysis of 50 different Vintage 30s from 89 to 2023 to find out more about this. More info in the future.

You and Robert are both “the man”. Thanks for the presentation, I enjoyed it very much.
My pleasure!!
Holy shit dude these are fantastic findings!!! I am just as passionate about the gear and stuff so this is a gold mine!!
Glad it struck home!! I can't believe that this happened. Took a LOT of persistence.

Love this new info. Celestion greenbacks.
I know!!! I was so surprised to learn this.
The vox speakers looks to be the VOX T530 Blue Alnico
Thanks a lot! WOW those are expensive online :D
And yeah I have a Chinese and English V30... There's a pretty considerable difference in the high end.

@@lordgraga sweet. I love learning all the differences
