@@awsomedude23456 not true. All of the listed shows with the exception of Monster High, are clearly all human. That's like saying it's hard to find non- White people when that's not at all true. You're telling us that for Avatar it would've been difficult to find a fully Asian and Inuit cast??? Even though the internet and production done by POC have no problem finding these actors and actresses? NOPE. It's absurd. It's just whitewashing and erasure. They either get someone mixed or a White person.

I’m a brown Latina and Yasmin’s casting has always upset me. Media likes to only portray white Latinas while completely ignoring all brown, black, indigenous, and even Asian Latinas. Most Latinas are people of color. Me, my mom, and my sister are all brown-skinned with dark hair and dark eyes. I loved Yasmin dolls as a kid because she was brown just like me. I want more of THAT representation for little Hispanic girls.

I know this movie is a giant mess and a train wreck, but it's one of my guilty pleasures.
Though I can say that the miscast is evident with the main 4 girls. No hate at all to Logan Browning and Nathalia Ramos, they clearly had a lot of fun working on this, but they should've cast a more darker skinned black woman and latina, 'cause last time I checked Yasmin and Sasha didn't look that light.

I would love for them to do a better movie for Bratz. Better casting, acting, singing, and music. They should take pointers from the first two cheetah girls movies when it comes to music. Bratz are iconic and must receive the live action movie that they deserved.

I'VE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR YOUR TAKE ON THIS AND I KNEW I WOULD LOVE IT & LEARN SOMETHING.
yasmin's casting was always the biggest thing that stood out to me. and when i found out about her being european, i could not BELIEVE the silence and lack of outrage?! even the actress that plays her mom is white!
but i'm embarrassed to say i never picked up on jade and sasha's casting, and now that you point it out, it's officially safe to say these casting decisions were very explicitly, unapologetically racist. it's like they were trying to figure out how to cast these characters with as much proximity to whiteness as they could get away with.
i sometimes wonder if the screenwriter had better intentions than the director and producers that ended up executing this story, because i always thought it was a pretty bold choice (for early 00s standards) to make yasmin the lead and not chloe, the "blonde one." it's such a shame that they fucking made the lead actress white anyway.

I was definitely a Bratz doll over Barbie, but I think I was 11 when this movie came out but I watched it later due to the fact of getting more into anime/manga and I remember hating it haha I never even went back to watch it ever again. Initially I thought these were different characters so I was okay with it until I found out they were the OG characters. Very disappointed with the casting and they just didn't feel like the Bratz if that makes sense.
Also, I never noticed that the Sasha doll had different eye colors. That's an interesting fact.

I never thought of Sasha's (the doll) skin being dark skinned. I always thought she was on the light side. I've always wondered why they didn't do different skin tones of races. There's more than one shade of skin color in different races, even white. Some are more pale than others, some of us have more of an olive complexion.

It’s amazing how these movies that adapt from dolls or a lot of other things make the characters progressively lighter and lighter until it’s unclear what the character was even supposed to look like/represent. Even with The Hate You Give it’s like you can expect a minimum 2-shades of lightening for the movie adaptation in Hollywood ALWAYS. This is why we don’t have that many dark skin young black WOMEN actors. The jobs that are supposed to be made for them are TAKEN from them.

As a "light skinned" Afro-latina I aesthetically always related more to Yasmin dolls growing up (I even had the Yasmin Styling head lol), so seeing her be a white girl in the film really rubbed me the wrong way. Hell, the girl who plays Sasha looks more like Yasmin.

  • @kaym1558

I went to see this movie on premier day in Theaters and… during almost the whole movie I’m like “where’s Sasha?” . I kept hearing her name but I’m like, “I don’t see a dark skin girl who looks like me, where is she?”. Then I finally realized Logan was Sasha and I thought she was Yasmin! I was so hurt and confused. Haven’t watched that movie since.
But personally I thought they did fine with Jade (look wise). To me, she didn’t look white. She looked Asian-American but you can definitely see that she’s Asian. And Yasmin overall just confuses me now looking at it. The person who played her was so off to the left that I totally forgot about her.

Honestly Bratz made me so uncomfortable as a kid. The movie almost felt like a mockery of the original series and tha dolls. Not only that but I loved the diversity of the girls and all we had was... Sasha. I'm glad we at least had Sasha but it still wasn't enough for my high 7 year old standards.
Bratz (the dolls and cartoon series) is probably the reason why I'm so picky about American shows.

I always hated that about Sasha, too. She could never just have brown eyes all the time. If it was a special type of fashion style they would change her eyes, and sometimes her hair color and skin color would be a little too bright sometimes as well. Hollywood loves to lighten up Black girls, but I think Sasha's constant changing looks made it even MORE acceptable for the actor to be on the lighter side.
Also, I'll never forget I spent part of my birthday money on that Runway. I screamed when I saw the commercial.

While mestizo people can either look mixed or totally brown/white, my mother looks white while my father looks brown but they both descend of the indegenous community, Yasmin always looked more brown and she seemed half latin/half arab to me. Also, I like Natalia Ramos (I loved her on HoA) but she is Spanish and they could have casted someone else.
Jade was always asian but the doll always seemed white passing to me, still Janel Parrish was the best actress of the cast.
And Sasha was always dark skinned, she was the first black doll I had after Christie.
Ps: I never had to look for a doll that resembled me (dolls were either too white or too brown), the same of looking for representation in media, because I understood early in my life that people of global north will never give my people the representation we want and deserve.

When I was a little kid, and I saw Yasmín, it was like love at first sight because her medium-tone skin resembled mine, and she looked like the older Latina teenaged girls in my life I looked up to.

I was confused about Yasmin’s casting as well. Always thought Logan would’ve made a better Yasmin than Sasha.
I had to look it up and she was supposed to be Latina and Jewish in the film.
“Then there’s half-Jewish, half-Latina Yasmin - played by 15-year-old Nathalia Ramos, herself the daughter of a Spanish father and a Australian Jewish mother - who inexplicably has a mariachi band in her kitchen and sings “La Cucaracha” with her grandmother (played by Lainie Kazan), whom she inexplicably calls Bubbe. [Yiddish for Grandmother]”
Yasmin was apparently named after Issac Larian’s daughter, Jasmin. She’s Iranian and Jewish, and I think she resembles Yasmin more than the actress they chose to play her.

Why was Sasha lighter? Why was Yasmin white, anyone can be Latina but Yasmin was tan, She thought the movie was so bad so this year I watched it a few months ago and I was like obviously they got lighter skin/ white passing/ and just straight out white, this movie was just so hard to watch I just can’t the girls didn’t act like the girls with a passion for fashion, they were the girls without passion for fashion

Funnily enough, I made a dream recast of Bratz a few months ago as I had similar thoughts and feelings about the cast. For those interested, this was my recast:
Victoria Justice as Yasmin, so in 2007 (when the movie was filmed and released) Victoria was 14 years old, in the film they were just starting high school so she would have been the right age. Victoria is half Puerto Rican half American European but looks more like her Latina side.
Anna Maria Perez de Tagle as Jade, in early 2007 Anna was 16 years old, and a few months after Bratz was finished filming, she filmed Camp Rock as Ella, she is also Ashley in Hannah Montana. She is Filipina. It isn't stated what ethnicity Jade is, though I would assume East Asian, it doesn't say she isn't
Southeast Asian. I also think Anna has a resemblance to Jade.
Keke Palmer as Sasha, I have to admit, it was difficult for me to find an actress for Sasha but I think Keke could play her well. During the time of Bratz filming, she was a few months away from being 14 however, based on photos of her at the time, she doesn't look that much younger than Victoria.
Meaghan Martin as Cloe, Meaghan played Tess in Camp Rock and was 15 at the time of Bratz filming. The reason I recast her is because Skyler who played Cloe was 20 during filming and would look more like 17 compared to Victoria, Anna and Keke who would look 14/15. I found it a bit tricky to find an actress to play Cloe but I think Meaghan is ultimately quite a good choice.
Roshon Fagan as Dylan, Roshon plays Ty in Shake It Up and was in Camp Rock, he would've been 15 during Bratz filming. I didn't know what Dylan's race and/or ethnicity was but Roshon is half African-American and half Filipino. I think he looks fairly similar to the animation Bratz show Dylan. If I made it, I wouldn't want Dylan to be deaf unless I chose a deaf actor to portray him which I haven't.
If this was the casting, I would remove Anneliese van der pol, I love her but she looks much older than the cast, I would change the casting of Cameron for the same reason as Anneliese and I would recast the actress who played Bubbie as she (Yasmin's abuela) is not Latina.
My recast is based off a criteria involving, age, I wanted a cast in between the ages of 14 and 16 (I give Keke a pass as she was nearly 14), the correct ethnicities and races, if they could act and sing, if they were a teen actor active in or before 2007 and if they gave me Bratz/fashionesta vibes.
I'm always happy to hear feedback or if anyone thinks an actor would have been better suited. I also want to add that i mean no disrespect towards the actors in the film, this is just my dream cast.
