WTF Roman? The Audi Q7 is on the MLB 2 platform, shared with the next Cayenne, Lamborghini Uris, VE Touareg, and the current Bentley Bentayga.
It is a TOTALLY different platform than the MQB that underpins the Atlas/Teramont/Škoda Kodiaq, the least of which is that it’s not a transverse [engine] matrix!
Love you guys but this distinction changes the entire premise of the review!

Hey guys they are not built on the same platform the audi is built on Audi’s MLB platform and the atlas is built on the MQB platform so they are very different. Sorry I had to criticize but she is a great addition to Tfl cars

Hey guys, there is a mistake. They don't share the same platform, Audi Q7 is based on MLB platform, used in vehicles like Audi A4 or even Porsche Cayenne. By the other side, VW Atlas is based on MQB platform which is used in vehicles like VW Golf, Tiguan or Audi A3.
Now maybe Subaru will let you test one of their cars again, she drives one and wrenches on it as well
Q7 is built on the MLB platform, which is the same as the Touareg, Bentayga, and Urus. However, the Atlas is built on the MQB platform, which is the same as the Golf, and Tiguan. TFL should have done more research!!!
The Q7 also uses a brand new all wheel drive system and the Atlas operates off of the dated quattro one.
+Saleem Drayton Actually the Q7 uses the traditional Quattro which is a torsen differential (not the new ULTRA Quattro) while the Atlas uses the FWD biased haldex system like the Focus RS and the Golf R, it can only send up to 50% to the rear wheels!
I was at the dealer the other day looking at 2018 q7 prestige, I think the dealer was referring to the Ultra Quattro which may be an option. I am not certain though.
I do not think Audi will do that. ULTRA is a weird AWD systems that cuts off power to the rear on highways for vertically placed engines. It is there just for better fuel economy. For horizontally place engines, haldex just cuts power to the driveshaft and it does not lose power. However, ULTRA is not efficient because it has to transmit power to the middle of the car and then to the front wheels. It is a BS system Audi made for their low end cars in order to ditch Torse, while still being RWD biased AWD in city roads. Audi would not be that stupid to put the ULTRA in their high end cars because ULTRA cars simply does not drive as good as the Torsen Quattro cars.

They actually do not use the same platform, the Audi is on the MLBevo Platform (Bentayga, Cayenne, Urus) but the VW is the MQB platform which is more suited for Transervely mounted, Front Engine Front wheel drive cars (Golf, Polo, Jetta, Arteon, Tiguan)
I like the video but wanted to make that clear so please don't think that these 2 cars are the same

Roman has no charm, chemistry or personality. She's great, I'm sure she's will do very well. Have Roman behind the scenes and add her to the rest of the team. Roman might be intelligent, interesting and a personable in real life but he doesn't come across like that on the camera.
I wholeheartedly agree, Sarah! I love my SQ7 and i'm sorry to say, the tech and the comfort is worth the extra pounds (I live in the UK).

OMG I just found this video as I sit here in my hotel while traveling for work and also renting - you guessed it - an Audi Q7! I’ve been bragging to my coworker for the last two days about how much I love this SUV. I’d pay the extra 20K. Also, Sarah is a keeper. 👍🏻

I love the look of the Atlas. I've always like VWs though since my first 1957 Bug.
The Audi also needs premium gas, and has higher maintenance and insurance costs which over 10 years is 5-10k more depending where and much you drive

Thanks for the review, in my case I bought the Atlas SE 3.6 top medium level on VW website , at the time we were looking for 7 SUV passengers there were only 4 options if I remember Honda Pilot (horrible), Acura MD (Nice but 3 row tight), and over 65K Audi and Mercedes. We are happy and i don't have get in a 65+K only 49K.

After 40sec....the Q7 is NOT MQB vehicle. It´s MLB2 and shares it´s underpinnings with the Cayenne, Urus etc. whereas the Atlas is basically a very stretched Golf with AWD ;)

Took my 2014 Audi Q5 TDI for the NY State inspection today. First inspection since the diesel recall modification. Did the inspection at the same Audi dealer where the modification was done. IT DID NOT PASS INSPECTION. Something about monitors having a "not ready" state. Sorry to get off topic.
They are NOT built on the same platform. The atlas is built on the transverse MQB platform (A golf). The Q7 is built on the MLB longitudinal platform, which are totally different. The suspension layout etc isn't even the same.
Another thing that the Q7 will do that the Atlas won't is tow 7700 lbs. The Atlas is only up to 5000. That seems to be a limiting factor in SUV's. Why can't vehicles like the Atlas, or Explorer, or similar, tow more than 5000, such as 7500-7700? Really helps when wanting to have a boat, or small airstream, or enclosed trailer. 2500 lbs may not sound like much, but when you have to upgrade to something like an Expedition, or get a truck, it really becomes an important factor. Curious why the Atlas can't tow the same as the Q7, when they're supposed to be the same platform and very close in power. Not to mention the Atlas is more focused on the American market, who like to have more stuff, aka tow things. Just doesn't make sense. But keep up the good work, love your videos.
Hi I am shopping for a 3 row SUV and just wondering set aside the price difference what am I gaining from the Q7 vs the Atlas if I get it with AWD? Seems the Atlas is more spacious and slightly more HP? Audi is quieter and has slightly more torque? Any other differences??
Atlas roofline does not slope down towards the rear like the Q7 which is why 7' tall basketball players fit in the third row. In the Atlas an adult can cross their legs in the generous 2nd row. Even some XC90 T6 buyers convert to the Atlas for the room versus cost. zThe top of the line SEL Premium with captains chairs and black wheel package if you can find one sits 9k lower than a moderately equipped XC90 T6. Then again if then nameplate is your thing, how did you read this far?
Wrong! Q7 is based on the MLB platform which it shares with the new Cayenne, Bentayga, A8 or even Lamborghini Urus.
Atlas is based on the MQB platform, together with Golf or Jetta.
We test drove an Atlas a couple weeks ago with a sticker of $55k. No. Way. In. Hell. The seats were flat and unsupportive and the interior was so full of cheap hard plastic I thought I was in a domestic. They also had a Genesis G80 in the showroom that was $58k and it was better equipped and easily felt $20k more expensive than the VW.
Not true! The Q7 platform is a longitudinal rear wheel drive platform the VW is a transverse front wheel drive platform MLB 2 and MQB platforms totally different! You had the hood open you should have easily tell. This is like comparing the Toyota landcruiser and sequoia the sequoia is bigger and cheaper but the landcruiser is just better built and a better off roader.
You guys mixed up the platforms Audi and VW are using for the cars. They are not the same (as stated), but different. Audi Q7 is MLB gen 2, VW Atlas is MQB (e.g. same as Golf).

the Atlas' quality and finish is really cheap you can't really compare, not even to a Touareg. I own the lastest Touareg and love it but the family is growing and is looking for something bigger, thus tried the Atlas and was disappointed ( do not want a larger Golf) . will definitely go for a Q7.
Buy the Audi as a 1 year used car/whatever/it-is and it will have depreciated to around $10k or so resale vale, then you can avoid that chunky VW-ish "Atlas" abomination and save a good major chunk of money and have something that is at least remotely attractive and doesn't look like a total plastic POS. Problem solved.
Lots of VWs and Audis are now made in Mexico. Add the unreliability and repair/parts costs and you know why Scotty Kilmer calls German cars "endless money pits". It's safer to lease under warranty but keeping for ten years? No way.
Sarah is AWESOME. I have been watching her TH-cam channel for years. She is fantastic, knows how to 🔧 wrench better than most dudes and is smoking HOT. What else do you need to know? Your hired!
I've driven the tiguan and atlas they dont even come close to most things from audi. Just picked up a 2018 sq5 and it was night and day compared go those other two. I feel the tiguan should consider getting the vr6 and they should entirely redo the atlas.

Sarah's a natural, hire her. She delivered her lines well and will get better with time. The fact that she's tall will help point out which car interiors may be an issue for taller car buyers. "That's what's up!"

You guys don't know Sarah. It is the awkwardness that makes her like-able. She's smart, Funny and get's her hands dirty. She could make a fishing channel interesting (sorry to those who may like the fishing channels). ;)

Sarah did a good job but I couldn’t help but think she was biased towards the Audi. She had some positive comments about the Atlas but I think choosing the Audi with AWD vs the VW with AWD and saving money seems like a no brainer. especially given the better seating in the VW.
So Q7 has 2 fewer cylinders with better fuel economy in with the added weight of all wheel drive for the Atlas uses the transverse mounted engine which means less mechanical losses cheaper to build for the manufacture and it gets about the same fuel economy with out the added weight of 4motion. Outward appearance I pick the Atlas. interior and mechanical I would pick the Q7.
I’m not seeing the cohesiveness yet that you achieved with Nathan and Andre. Maybe that will happen in the future, maybe not. I’d try other options for TFL members and do reviews like this. Some people are a natural, some are not.
If she stays: your viewing audience will increase; more of your viewers will watch the episodes more than once, adding hits or traffic or whatever; her honest and dead-pan quirkiness will be a refreshing change and therefore word-of-mouth about the channel will have a bigger ripple. It is improvement no matter how you cut it.
She seems knowledgeable and quick on her feet. Her delivery and showmanship is a little off, but that's something I've always thought about Nathan too and I still love his reviews. So yeah, give her a chance.
Am i the only one that will actually comment about the car on this video? I actually think the Atlas looks way cooler in styling. The size of the back seats is a huge factor buying a vehicle of this class. Yeah Atlas would be my pick for the money! (Oh btw. I do like Sarah a lot. Haha)
So the pick is the car with less horsepower, less torque, an unusable 3rd row, and "clunky" interior for an additional $14,000 becasue it has an audi badge? Good to know.

Good to luck at but she is trying to show off her stat knowledge but talks very boring. Not very enthusiastic. I would be ok with her being a fixture and it would grow your channel because of click bait video views of hot chicks with cars. Smart business decision to hire her but make sure you are paying only salary and not per video.
I don't know man.. It kinda feels like comparing apples to bananas. Fully loaded Atlas gets closer to that audi in comfort than you'd think.Then again though, nothing comes close to as fully loaded audi.
