Always count on the Sonic series to take realistic backdrops and mold them in a surreal and radical way, it's one of the things that sets it apart from other franchises. Since Sonic Frontiers took place in the ruins of an ancient island faring civilization, I hope the next game has a city/contemporary aesthetic, like the jump from Sonic 3 to Sonic Adventure.
One of the things I like to do in Sonic games sometimes is just explore and feel the vibe of the places, I love the depth and care they put on the locations on the series, in ALL the games Sometimes I download free cam mods to explore the enviroments, see the buildings, the cities, the villages, the forests, etc. Other times I turn off the music and just start exploring the locations with the sounds of the nature, birds, wind, waterfalls, etc (Sonic Frontiers is especially really good at that, it has such a well made sound design). Most of the times it makes me wanna just be there, walking around, seeing the locations, feeling the vibe, I would love to hang around Camelot Castle, Soleanna, Station Square... And not only makes me wish Sonic's World was real for me to visit those places, but it also sometimes makes me want to travel and meet new places in our real world (because most of the locations are inspired by the real world), just take a nice vecation to enjoy some good places, take a good look at the architecture, the buildings, the natural enviroments and attractions of the cities in general Of course, it would be much cooler to explore Sonic's World than our world because it not only has all those locations inspired by real cities but also new places with futuristic and dreamy aesthetic and architecture
It's funny cus I do think many ppl realize this as it's brought up many times in convos like in youtube vids that this stuff does go underappreciated in this series in particular cus stoppin to smell the roses isn't wut u're intended to do in these games(tho sonic would totally do that if nothin urgent was goin on lol) & this is especially a thing for boost where u're constantly breakin the sound barrier like it's nothin which almost makes u question y & even HOW they put so much when u gotta cover so much ground lickety split which means tons of work for a game that comes out a year after the next typically wit similar staff involved tho many of these games had diff or jus split variations of ST workin on it yrs in advance while other stuff came out. However there's never been a vid till now that goes this in-depth on this stuff till now wit this so once again thx for givin a unique side to all this stuff. I personally feel u've quickly become one of the "best" content creators focused on sonic wit the research u take the time to compile share in a nice format like this.
This video is nothing short of astonishing. Amazing work. I've always had a big appreciation for architecture and overall ambience in Sonic games, sometimes for what it is, sometimes as snippets of what it could be, but it almost always makes my inagination go wild. There are so many areas and mbiences in Sonic games that just make me want to stop and stay there, and get a feeling that only looking at certain things can give me. So many Sonic games where I wish I could explore and walk on many areas beyond what's supposed to be explored, and have collision. Jungle joyride in Sonix Unleashed is a great example. I also alsways wanted to see Secret Rings as an open ended game, were you run around and enjoy such a land in all it's magnitude. And those are just a few of many, many examples. Once again, this video is incredibly well done, and highly polished. As a side note, I'm highly curious about what area of what game 7:22 is in, because I can't really wrap my head around it right now, and I'd really like to know it. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could tell me. Thanks in advance.
@@Cifesk ... 7:22...? Maybe 7:23 is more precise, but I doubt that big and open sunrise area is "the inside of the tree" 😅 I'm pretty sure there was a misunderstanding here. While I'd still like to know, it doesn't really matter if you don't answer again. The fact you went out of your place to answer in the first place is already appreciated.
wow the really put so much character into the world-building in the games, its crazy how in-depth it is for how fast you go. Lots of stuff shown in this video, i didnt even know was there when playing the games
Bravo Sir, your video was a complete breath of fresh air. This huge diversity in these games are astonishing, every sonic has something/s unique about them. When it comes aesthetic and theming from a creative aspect, Sonic Heroes takes the crown in that one. While Sonic unleashed is top tier when it comes to emphasis on different cultural features.
One of my favourite elements of level architecture is found in Cannon's Core at the end of SA2. You begin the level in the guts of the Ark with stages that are very mechanical-looking and eventually end up sliding down a stone sewer that twists its way towards a replica of the Angel Island temple. It's a really cool transition from the hard science of the space colony to the mystical elements of dealing with Chaos.
Wow, I had to watch it over a few sittings but that was great! I think the architecture in some games probably has quite a strong effect on me, but I've never looked at it in this much detail before. This has actually made me interested in trying to learn more about real life architecture, although I think I'll have a hard time finding a source that can make it as engaging as this video does- partly because Sonic is inherently interesting to me. Btw, is it just me who thinks that a video like this but about Ratchet & Clank games would be fascinating? I know it's an (even) less realistic series, but I imagine at least some of the buildings have real life influences? Anyway, brilliant job with this video, and thanks for making it!
29:56 i always thought the lights in the ssz past backdrop could be torches in people’s homes or in the streets, or something like that. whenever i see city lights in antiquated settings like this i’m always reminded of a beautiful piece of art i saw once that depicted what looked like a ground view of a futuristic city zoomed out, but when you zoomed in, you saw that it was made up entirely of european fantasy elements serving the same functions, creating a whole larger than the sum of its parts. i really wish i saved it because it lives rent free in my head and is perfect for this discussion
This is more aesthetics than anything but my favorite stages are based off Emerald Coast, Casinopolis/the Casino levels in Heroes, and Speed Highway. I dunno what it is about them but they're cozy
Yeah I've got the same feeling, I watched one of his other videos before this, being a non native speaker he as an unusual inflection on a lot of words that can be pretty jarring, his newest video is definitely more natural sounding but still might be hard for a newcomer to the channel.
great video as always🔥🔥 Architecture in games should be explored more frequently by content creators
Thanks for helping cifesk

Love being educated by Sonic games!
Awesome video. Thanks for exploring and elaborating on the many styles that i like in sonic’s world.
Great video once again, loved the message you had at the end.
Keep being awesome!!!
Why doesn’t bro have 1mill subscribers yet?? He deserves it.
