Nice update Sam, it's great to hear your thoughts on it a year on.
I went with this for my first e-mtb, and got it direct from our local Giant store. For me:
+ Love the set and forget nature for the suspension
    - Annoyed that the Live valve system means the battery can't be wired up to your lights, Giant looked into and came back to me with a 'Can't be done'. So the convenience of just having the one battery to charge is a little diminished
+ Love the range (Giant had just announced their large capacity battery prior to me ordering, so I got the store to up the spec and fit the new model and only paid the difference in cost between the battery models).
+ Another point for our Giant store (I guess?); they had those cable tidy wraps on the wires up front, so the cockpit looked a lot tidier.
    - First bike I've had with disc brakes, after a couple of months of riding (2-3 times a week), rear set got super loud. Took it in and the lads at Giant swapped out the metal pads with resin ones (as a side note; these feel much softer to me, I think I preferred the metal ones, if it wasn't for all the noise). These were fine for a good while longer, but now I'm back to squealing brakes -_- Popped by the LBS to get some wisdom, and they showed me how the pads have developed a glossy finish to them, recommended I sand them down a bit and try bed them in slower for a while ^^ If this fails, consider swapping out the rear disc with a model that deals with heat better.
Overall, loving the experience of an e-mtb. Still getting used to it, both the modern geometry and the big jump in weight (previous bike was a non-e hardtail), but I'm riding a lot more than I have done in years and it's getting me out of the house after having a heart op.

Yeah! Automatic suspension is the future, I’ve tested it and you can really feel the difference. Well done Sam, as always you do a very professional review.

Thanks for the vid and the insight!!
In my humble opinion, this tech is the future. Not long ago It would be unthinkable for mountain bikes to have assit motors or bluetooth transmission and dropper posts, now a days everyone is used to it.
I think automatic suspension will be the next leap in MTB&Emtb to have a better ride and setup all over.

I have the e+1 model and think the LiveValve is fantastic. I’m a set it and forget it kind of person, so not having to think about tinkering with suspension lets me focus on just getting out there and riding

Nice long term review of the auto suspension. I am still a bit sceptical about it and that additional cables around the bike. We always ride in rough terrain and cables can be damaged and the suspension doesn´t work as it should. The bike is still beautiful but maybe a bit too much sensoric and technique. As you know I am a fanboy of the reign e+ and it´s travel, maybe the trance is the better trailbike but I prefer the comfort and safety of the reign. In the near future we have the auto suspension, auto shifting and many other wireless things that goes automatically. More things that can be damaged on a trail. Automatic here and there is good as long as it works all the time without causing problems.

Hey mate thanks for the kind words, I know you love the big boy the Reign and so do I, but for a 2 hours trail ride I’m taking the Trance all the time! I also agree more technology means possible more things breaking but it seems the way things are going!

Like i said in the short, auto suspension is awesome. I ride flight attendant which also varies front and back suspension (one might be in pedal whn the other is open). Super intuitive. Essentially there are no negtives whn you think of the whole ride.
Sram has your manual override. Maybe you should compare flight attendant with live valve. No cables😊

Thanks John for the kind words! I honestly didn’t think I would like it but after a year I loved my time on the trance and yes I need to try Flight Attendant 👩‍✈️

That setup is maybe the most versatile to date. A real do it all bike.

You don't need a gravel bike, put some Thunderberts on there and you'll have a gravel bike.
I out some Maxxis Aspens in my spare wheels for my Altitude Power Play and recently did a 64 mile 2600' elevation gravel ride and finished with 50% battery.

SRAM just released a new motor. I don't wonder what Ja Rule has to say. I wonder what Sam's Ebikes has to say.

Looks interesting but it’s a brose mag s with sram software like a specialized no? Yes auto shirting yes it’s interesting not sure I want auto shifting

@@SamsBikes Ok well that is both nice to know but also disappointing. 😂Actually nice that I don't need to learn yet another motor.
How does the Brose compare to a Bosch? I'd guess Bosch has the most initial grunt but after?

until the computer fails and all you have left is an over priced less cable bike.
