I've been in one of these and I really think if they would have improved range and charging to be more competitive, they would have a hit. It's a very nice vehicle to be in. Just short on the ev side of things.
Charging has been improved for 2024 as it now can go from 10-80% in 35 minutes compared to just under an hour with the 2023. You can't do too much with range, so they made sure that the Solterra is as capable as any other Subaru doing the things that Subaru drivers want their vehicle to do. And to their credit, they decided to focus on the strengths they believe work in their favor and not harp on where other EVs might be a better choice. Subaru fans according to research want the Solterra to drive like a typical Subaru more than they want better overall range.
@@TheNovakReport From what I understand though and not sure if you have any insight here, is that it takes about 35 minutes to 80 no matter what percent charge due to how Toyota throttles down the batteries ability to take power at certain percentages. 20-80, 35 minutes. 60 to 80, 35 minutes. That's ridiculous if true.
All EVs regardless of automaker will have a different charge rate depending on what state of charge a battery is at when the charging process begins. To accept a full DC fast charge rate at higher states of charge can be damaging to the battery and reduce its lifespan. Typically most batteries in a 10-80% scenario will have their fastest intake in the 20 - 40% range and then slowly taper down. After 80% almost all EVs will dramatically slow down a DC fast charger up to 100 - again for safety and longevity of a battery. That's why DC fast charge times typically are up to 80% and not 100%. So, I can't verify the claims about the same time regardless of start rate, but I can verify that if you start a DC fast charge cycle at a higher state of charge, the charging will be slower than if you started at 10% for comparison sake. Hope this helps.
When do I get to see a review of the 25' Model..........The car I think I want to order.......But want to review the 25 before ordering............24 is nearly over...........Most 25's are out...................Paul
As far as I'm aware the improvements made to the '24 which we drove (faster DC fast charging, new oval steering wheel, new charge cable capable of L2 home charging, DC fast charging now capable up to 4x daily, additional safety features, and more) are all carry overs to the '25. So this is reflective of what will be available in the '25 MY.
What Happens When You Take a Subaru Solterra Off the Beaten Path? You get a flat and can't find the spare that the manufacturer didn't include in this already overpriced EV. Now what?
@@TheNovakReport Not many other EV's come with the off-road marketing... I don't think many would be comfortable "taking on tough off-road trails" in a vehicle with no spare... I certainly wouldn't.
@@seamack3 Did you watch the video? Did you note the type of roads the off-road course we drove were made of? These are off-road conditions and the Solterra is completely capable of driving them - which are also the type of roads that vast majority of Canadians consider off-road to be. True off-roaders or those who need Rubicons or Bronco Sasquatch trims are a small percentage overall.
Thanks, Eric for that awesome video, very cool vehicle, and I love the off-road capability of it, it also has Tons of room to put stuff in it.
My pleasure! The Solterra does indeed drive like a Subaru.
Beautiful new suv
It's definitely an interesting offering from Subaru. Thanks Darren!

solterra is their honda passport
Not sure why this ad came up in my feed. Because I would rather rip out my intestines than buy an EV.
I guess some people just prefer pain and suffering over better solutions. You be you, I guess...
