- In this video dad and I give our in-depth review of the Gleaner S97 that we Demo’d during harvest. This video was filmed mid November the day before the Gleaner left for its new home. There is a little wind noise so sorry about that.

It's cool, listening to you sort through all those years of experience and apply to whatever he talking about. You can tell the great deal of experience you both have!

Bought a s98 ran 12 row folding capello was red did a great job very happy
With power tools and a forklift, you can pull the cylinder out in 15 minutes, saw a neighbor do it a few years ago. We.run a 2011 S77, besides messing with the computer, we do the service work ourselves, very easy to work on, and if there is a breakdown during harvest the down time isn't long. Great video Brown Farms, keep up the great work.
Question, what is the reason for pulling the rotor? How often is it done? Gleaner owner & dealers have always touted the ease of pulling rotor, but why? I have now run combines for more than 50 years & haven't yet had a reason to pull a rotor or cylinder.
@@davidkottman3440 I've been told one of the reasons to pull the cylinder is that it makes replacing the cylinder bars much easier. (That's why my neighbor did it). I have replaced 2 rows of cylinder bars 2 years ago, on the right hand of the cylinder where the chain throws the crop into the cylinder area, just unbolted the grates (not the technical term, can't think of it.) And was able to do it in the engine area. When we have to replace any more cylinder bars, will remove the whole cylinder next time., will make removing and torquing the bolts much easier.

Been running Gleaners for a few years now and love it! Easy to work on, capacity isn't a problem. Other machines we were rebuilding every year. We are going on three years with little repairs. Was very sceptical before getting to run one, Now I don't understand why there is anything else built. If painted green and yellow there wouldn't be any other machines. Best kept secret.
I’ve worked around many different combines and for your dad to say how clean the sample was confirmed what I have always heard about Gleaner. I enjoyed watching your dad run that combine because you could really tell he enjoyed it. Keep up the great videos.
"loyal following Gleaner fans" there is a good reason for that too, all the things you guys noticed...simple, no frills, high capacity, and cost effective to rebuild. Until something drastically changes, I'll have Gleaners on my farm. Thanks for sharing, you guys are the back bone out Great Nation!

My cousin her husband and 4 sons bought 5 of the S9 Gleaner combines new and do the wheat run from Texas to Canada with 50 foot Honey Bee heads. They absolutely love them.
I bought a 96 a year ago. I have owned 4 new Gleaners in my life time and this has been the best one considering a new combine. I live 20 miles for hesston so I drove it form the factory to newton where my dealer is.
I went from a JD to a Gleaner and i am glad i did i had a older JD and pickup a older gleaner and i was surprised how simple they are and wish i had looked at one 20 years sooner
@Monk Farmer we had a R70 with a duetz straight piped engine never had one issue with it had 7000 engine hours when sold it . Now we have a R75 and a S77

Couple gleaner benefits, no changing of concaves between crops, I’ve harvested 13 crops without the need for different concaves. Personal best time to remove rotor on my r76 is 12 minutes start to finish, back in under 20 minutes. Very easy to modify rotor setup for various crops. We can run 4000bph on a r76 in sub 20% corn and 3500+/- bph in 26+% corn. I don’t know why they put different pulley on for chopper on the new ones, the r series has a dual pulley, just roll the belt to either size. I’ve had a gleaner service truck on the farm 2x in 16 years of ownership, currently run a 2009 r76 and a 2007 r75 over 4500 acres per year. 99% of repaires are done by us on the farm. Built for simplicity and to last.

Friends here in Western Pa were die hard John Deere people from tractors to combines. However this year they switched to a gleaner and have been very very happy with it.
Me and family farm here in south Dakota with 3 older case combines 1480 1680 and 2388 great combines but we have family in Texas that have gleaners and have always good things about them we always have liked the design of the gleaners and hear stories like yours all the time but its always the header and feederhouse design that holds us back from getting a gleaner. Otherwise awesome combines!!!
Gleaner has 3 year header to spreader factory warranty with 3 PM checkups with all fluids and oil changes included for three years. This is a change from the two year coverage from 2019 with guaranteed up time in 72 hours.

Excellent and detailed review. Others just talk about cup holders and seats. I interested more on whether or not it's a work horse , the job it does and cost of operation.

Good tag-team review of the combine. Most combines in my area are very used and old, mainly used to combine oats & barley.

Brian, I remember running a GH GLEANER in the 70's; the GH had the cylinder in the feeder house and the machine was really "short"; Did a good job...had a 16' header.

We run 2 S77, we have been asking agco to put a sensor on the return elevator. If your running heavy crop you can over load the return and the crop will actually overflow over the cross auger and that grain is lost. Make sure your bottom sieve is set proper so this doesn't happen
A smart move by Agco to demo a Gleaner with the Browns this harvest. i thick a lot of farmers will be looking at a Gleaner combine this winter.

Nice to be able to tryout various machines under different conditions to get to see the high and low points of them and as models change with new and hopefully better ideas it helps you to get the best machine for your specific area and conditions!👍
Brian: Great job explaining positive and negative attributes. Good to have Bob there he has the experience with the Gleaner and has a good base line to compare the S97. You remember the old term KISS: (keep it simple stupid). Generally, the simpler the machine, less components, fewer problems and lower cost. With a price difference of $100k I could go without a few features. Always good to see an Operation consider all the colors. The one color commitment doesn't always result in the best outcome. Generally, overall costs and dealer service drive the decision. Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day.

Interesting video, my days with Gleaner go back to when they had a wood slatted feeder house chain and of course not a quick tatch head. This machine was quickly named the “Silver Seeder” and my dad felt they should give you the combine for what you spent on repairs and parts to keep it running. Appears they have made some progress in design. Stay safe guys

One new gleaner depreciate over three years would help farm deductions set other two up for five year replacement cycles. By the time gleaner came through rotation it’s resale value is still good Some where in proces drop one if becomes problem. Arm chair farmer. Self certified in multiple trades. Thanks BFF
Hi I was bought up on a farm and went in to earthmoving but still very interested in farming . There's a harvesting contractor on the Darling Douns in Queensland Australia that was running two . John Deere combine and a Gleaner they said the Gleaner will stay up with the John Deere in any crops . Last time I went past I see to new Gleaners..Thanks for the videos.

My parents had a gleaner combine it was nice because we could do all the work on it. On that note we had to go a long way to get the parts. Back then. I remember going to pain ohio for parts. Be safe and are paryers go out to you family and your mom

We run a 97 with a 12 row when corn gets wet you are to take out bottom sieve, you can get a impeller or a chopper. 4500 is about it for bushels per hour . Y’all can do all the work to it .we have been gleaner since the e and f days 300 miles from dealer

Excellent video. A few more benefits of a Gleaner. Better fuel economy. Over time you will probably see the difference. Plus the weight of it. Less compaction of the soil. Better soil development.

Yes for what you guys are doing your gonna want the S98 if you go the gleaner route. I live and breathe gleaners grew up with them only combines my family has ever owned and it’s all I’ll ever own!!!! So so simple machine!!!
The double belt on the right side of the feeder house is our design we were having trouble with the old single belt twisting and coming off under heavy wet crop conditions so we machined the dual speed pulleys down to be double belt and the agco engineers came out and ask us if they could use it on production was pretty cool to see the designers applying ideas from the people using the product
Do they run multiple grain loss sensors in the back yet? Early r series ran two, dad ran 4 and we worked with a block man and then they started running 3 from factory. Used to do some custom stuff with bison rotors out of North Dakota I believe.
@@brandonm6052 has honestly haven’t looked our old r76 use to run 2 but I’m not sure on the new ones they told me it was an updated version of the ones the r series used so I would imagine there would be 4 now I’m really excited for the next couple years with gleaner tho supposedly if agco doesn’t sell enough Massey combines this year they are going to discontinue Massey line of combines completely to expand the gleaner line and make a bigger class 9 version of the super series

In the olden days it was said that when they finally got a Gleaner right they would paint it instead of just putting galvanized metal on it. They must be good because they are painted.

Hay Brian I do think your dad would love to have a Gleaner , I think the bigger one would serve you guys better! I was raised with a Gleaner in our family and we always liked it, done a great job! There is a lot of followers of Gleaners must be a reason!! Their a short combine easier to get around on the ends too, price wise and the smile on your dad’s face says it all!! I own a gleaner n-7 and I like it it’s easy to service and fix if it breaks and lots of power and gleaner has always been the lightest combine. I was combining beans last year through water at some places and all I did was put duals in it and I could drive anywhere and it’s a two wheel drive. I talked to a gleaner combine salesman and he said that they hardly ever sold a new gleaner with fwd because they are so light that you really don’t need it.
They are a good combine.

I have watched the videos about how the Gleaner works. That is what made me a believer in what they can do. I want to get one some day. It's hard to when I don't have the acres to and my combine is paid for. Guess I will run it till it's worn out and then go for the quonset as Tony Fast calls them.
They can be rebuilt fairly cheap and very simple to do as well. Have had 3 of them started with F3 then a R42 and now a R65 been very happy with gleaner!!

Glad to hear someone demoed it and thought a gleaner is a great combine. Gleaners received a bad rap because guys didn't know how to set them up.
I wouldn't say that's why they got a bad rap. Been around a couple of them and neither were very good. It's all about what you have been around.

If you know how to set a Gleaner, you’ll never want any other brand. You’ll get the cleanest sample of any combine. I run a Gleaner and the elevator I haul to says my beans are the cleanest they get.
@@lawnfarmer a farmer I helped in the past ran 2 gleaners an m2 and an r60 and both combines performed flawless. Never received a deduction on foreign matter

Run a 85 gleaner with a 30 ft. Draper and a 8 row corn head just replace 1 belt love it
Good video!!!! I would almost get the new gleaner if I were you guys. Probably can get a good deal. But keep one of your older combines. You need two.
We used to have 2 Gleaners lol what was the worst was the body panels, galvanized was the finish never lasted one combine was fairly new, the other on had no panels lol, ya got to know the full operation because you could see it all lmao. We sold our Green and purchased an N5 here in W PA. Took off about 170 ac of corn and beans total. This machine, although older, is far ahead of our other machine in design. Much simpler to maintain and repair ( a machine that old does take some TLC sometimes!), faster ( running a 6 row head 1.5-2 mph faster than our old 4), and used just under 200 gal of fuel for it all. Clean samples, and not enough left in the field to feed anything. Very aggressive cornhead, and the floating header does just that well. And, because of the wide stance and low center of gravity, very stable on these hills here. Maybe not as pretty, but she knows how to perform!

We take the sieve out on S98 in wet corn and just use the top chaffer to clean with. I have seen 5,000 bph on ours with 12 row head but hard to run fast enough in 150 bu. Corn, 4,000 bph seems a comfortable place to run for us.
Great review and comments by you both! Especially that nugget from dad on the check! LMAO! Surprised other vendors wouldn't try to make a case or deere or other brand available for you to demo. Especially if they know you are seriously in the market! I think I heard you mention that it might be a logistics problem. Good luck! That's a huge investment. Best wishes to mom!🙂

Wow 30k a year in maintenance? I haven't spent that much on my 72 since I got it several years ago, pushing 5000 hrs. Probably will blow up now.

Running a gleaner r62 for 20 years still love gleaners they do a great job. Clean grain. Less weight. Less fuel used and just as much capacity as others. For you guys the s98 for a 12 row header and 40 ft mac don will will do perfect for your farm Brian
Brian before you buy a new combine I would love to see you run a New Holland with the rotory. If you have a dealer near you. Would love your option on the new ones. 👍👍👍👍👍

You need to look into the air flex header from honeybee. Very great heads you can switch from flex mode to rigid mode. Overall the best heads on the market

A couple guys in south central Nebraska running Deere we’re buying one, running a year and trading it. My dad’s boss would buy it after it went through the shop and run it its 2nd season and repeat. Once in the cycle they said trading was cheaper than sending it through the shop. Heads were kept 3-5 years and traded
That was a great video. It's impressive of how much less it costs than the fendt and some of the others out there. Even impressed by the weight difference. I like the idea of the simplicity of the gleaner on maintenance. I would love to own one if I had a farm big enough for a new combine and could afford it. I'm kinda hoping y'all go with gleaner. Be sweet to see it running with the Challenger tractors since they are Agco. Hope it's been a great weekend and it was a Happy Thanksgiving. Be safe.
