  • On this day in the life, I describe some of the methods used to identify relic and antique buttons other than by what design is on the face. There tens, if not hundreds of thousands of varieties of buttons produced over the course of our countries history and understanding some of the subtle differences can be the difference between a positive or erroneous identification.

    I have a flat button with a broken shank and a silver side, it says LONDON PLATED on it. What year was those LONDON PLATED buttons made?

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were made through a wide space of time with that back mark but I would say you are likely looking at 1830’s-1850’s

  • @bradosbourne587
    @bradosbourne587 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great info thanks a lot! I have a couple of flat buttons I dug last year with matching 4 digit numbers? I've research to no avail on what the numbers represent? Any idea? Thanks

      What are the numbers?

    • @bradosbourne587
      @bradosbourne587 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is weird. I've found hundreds of flat buttons but these were the first to have numbers on them? Numbers are on the back

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Off the top of my head I can;t say I have ever seen a numbered backmark

    what is your knowledge towards english royalty buttons for identifications? specially English civil war buttons 17th century. Probably made by thomas simon the Kings engraver.

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fairly limited, most of the buttons I find are American but I may be able to help if you had a question in mind

    • @cruzy1969
      @cruzy1969 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BirdDogg Thomas simon the Kings engraver made and designed rare coins medals etc plus he signed afew coins etc that made them very special and very rare, my question is did he do the same with buttons/cufflinks. Because we all know that charles 2nd loved his jewellery and dress ware.

      @BirdDogg  2 ปีที่แล้ว
