I understand it by speaking words and allow the holly spirit give interpretation or meaning to those words. Some times I say Holy Spirit, you know all things , u know who is in pain now, you know who needs help etc.. so please as I say this rubbish please rephrase them and give meaning to it according to your will. And truly when I pray this way I feel soooooooo light after that.

Study the word. The Spirit gives utterance according to the will of God. The more time you spend speaking in times , the more the Spirit will increase your spiritual vocabulary. Practice makes perfect. It may start repetitively, but you will notice other tongues coming the more you open up your spirit to the Holy Spirit. Focus on Jesus as you do. Keep at it, 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins , 20 mins, 30 mins , 45 mins. Next you know you can stretch by the Spirit to do an hour or more. Hallelujah.
