    For anyone about to install one, I just did it. On the hottest night of the year my 1980's fan burned up its speed control capacitor pack (thought my house was on fire at 3 am) and I couldn't get a replacement today, so down to Home Depot to update with this fan in brushed nickel. This is quite a heavy fan compared to my previous one. The motor housing is much bigger and it is smoother and whisper quiet. It is not an easy install job by yourself. I precariously perched the fan assembly on the styro-foam packaging on top of the step ladder in order to get the cable high enough to be secured to the bracket. You really need someone to help you with this because it could fall and wreck the fan housing or hurt you. Instructions were good enough, but I've done a couple of these before. I suspect it might be confusing if you are not used to this kind of thing. One problem I did have is that the grounding screw is supposed to thread into the support rod through the ball. This is the main safety ground for the entire unit and it is important. However, when the hanger pin was put in place the ground screw was about 1/8 inch too low. So I had to get a drill and stretch the pin hole so that the ground screw could align with its threaded hole. I suspect most people would not even see this and would just tighten until the screw contacted the rod and call it a day. But the contact would be intermittent (because the ground clip isn't pinched to the rod by the screw) and it might be an issue. So, one hole was machined out of alignment, but that was the only issue. My old fan canopy was 12 inches across at the ceiling and was centered on a stud beside the electrical box (not centered on the box itself because the box was not supported). 12 inches was enough to hide the electrical box. This fan canopy was too small to hide the box and is intended to be installed centered on a box that is well framed and supported. Most houses just have boxes fastened on one side to a stud (just for supporting a light fixture) and will not support the weight of a ceiling fan. So I had a choice of going into the blistering heat of my attic to frame around the box in blown fiberglass to give it support for box centered mounting (wouldn't send my worst enemy up there), or getting a 15 inch ceiling medallion to hide the box in off-centered install on a stud. A second trip to Rona (Home depot didn't have them) and $45 more added to my $214 fan and then micky-mousing around to cut a hole in the medallion to allow clearance of the fan canopy and all was good.....4 hours later!!! Nope, I would not make a living installing ceiling fans! Anyway, everything works great, the fan looks good, the light wavelength choice is cool. More than enough air movement over a bed. Might not be enough in a large room. It's definitely better than what I had and I think it is worth the money. By the way, once you've made a selection with the remote (such as light on, fan off) you can just turn your light switch on and off to control it. You don't have to use the remote except if you want to change something.

    The Mena 44 inch is a better fan. The smaller blades move way more air. Id go with the Hunter Toledo in this $150 price range that fan will blow your toupee off your head. Another flaw is that there are no pull chains, so you can manually adjust the fan speeds. This is important if your home is wired with separate wall switches for a fan and light kit ( red to blue wire) connection. You have to wire that cheezy remote on to adjust the fan speed. The Mena 44" has these options, and that's why it's a better fan and $50 cheaper. I'm going to return mine and get the Hunter. I was attracted to this for it's looks. But I need a fan to move the air. This one gets a 5 out of 10 for me at that. The mena 44 gets a 7 out of 10. I'm happy with these. I have 4 of them in all our smaller 10x10 rooms.

    How do you like the airflow? I’ve seen reviews that complain that it’s not great

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flow underneath is good. Flow outside of that isn't great. But this is used outside, and I think that's a big factor. This was the first fan I've ever had outside. I actually need to update this video I returned it and bought a bigger fan, which is better but it's still not amazing. I think they're just much less effective outdoors. If you want to see my other review, search for Slinger V2 fan.

      It doesn't move much air. I'm going to install an extension rod to see if that helps.

      @@kevinwilson4293 lol are you sure that that your settings are correct? There’s a switch at the top of the unit that you can use to reverse the direction in which the fan spins. The blades are angled to move air downward. Change the switch and I bet it fixes it.

    I have 3 fans and somehow they’re all synced together and I would like each remote to control each individual fan. Any idea how I can get each remote to control each fan?

    Blades that click in... that kinda scares me

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The way they click in is very secure. I don't see how they could detach. You have to squeeze a large pair of tags to remove.

      @@ScottAllison The "Mara" model of this fan from last year that looks exactly like the "Mena" from this year was recalled due to the fan blades flying off. Just happened to me last week and broke a window on my patio. I don't think I would be able to trust the Mena model as a replacement.
