16 odu ifa and their meaning. What is Odu Ifa. Odu Ifa and their Meaning in Ifa Religion & Yoruba Religion in Total of 256 Odu Ifa & 16 Odu Ifa. 256 odu ifa. Odu ifa Merindinlogun. The Ifa Divination System In this video, I would be sharing with you the 16 Odu Ifa with their meaning. First of all, what is Odu Ifa? Before this can be properly defined, you need to understand what Ifa means. Ifá is a Yoruba system of divination. Its literary corpus is the Odu IFÁ. So to simply put, Odu means Chapters, now we can say Ifa Chapters. Orunmila is identified as the Grand Priest, as he is who revealed divinity and prophecy from Ifa to the world. Babalawos or Iyanifas are therefore the priests or priestesses respectively that we have today. They use either the divining chain known as Opele, or the sacred palm or kola nuts called Ikin, on the wooden divination tray called Opon Ifá. So let’s deep dive into what Odu Ifa means and share with you the 16 numbers of Odu Ifa in existence and give you an idea of each what each literally means. There are sixteen major chapters in the Odu Ifá literary corpus. When combined, there are a total of 256 Odu, that is, a collection of sixteen, each of which has sixteen alternatives that are believed to reference all situations, circumstances, actions and consequences in life based on the uncountable ese (or "poetic tutorials") relative to the 256 Odu coding. These form the basis of traditional Yoruba spiritual knowledge and are the foundation of all Yoruba divination systems. Ifá proverbs, stories, and poetry are not written down. Rather, they are passed down orally from one babalawo to another. People consult Ifa for divine intervention and spiritual guidance. Why are your drawings of people not african when you are talking of IFA
Note that not only Africans embrace IFA please. Let's stop this monopolistic mindset as non Africans equally have interest in our culture and traditions. The drawings are for expressions only and by the way I make use of what I find in the software I use. Thanks for your observation.
@@GetaBetterLifeTV you are right but you are whitewashing it. There is nothing monopolistic about it. You have to honour the provenance of what you are teaching by showing in everything you do where it came from...no Chinese, Japanese or European would present what originates from them in the morphology of Africans.
