How I made my DIY Exercise Bike for under $25!

  • The cost of exercise equipment has increased dramatically due to it being in such high demand recently, so I decided to try and make my own! This project came to me when my best friend sent me a video of his cats, and I saw his exercise bike in the background. I thought, “hmm… I wonder If I could make something like that…” and got right to work! I used some scrap wood thatI already had, but this could be created with a single 2x6x8 board, some screws, bolts, and some pegs for your bike.
What I forgot to mention in the video:
My bike has 26” Wheels. I had to make the vertical pieces tall enough so the tires would clear the base. To do this I made the piece 17” tall, that way I had some room to make the holes for the pegs a little bigger. This was a super easy project to do, and can easily be done in an afternoon!
The only thing I would like to add to this is a way to add resistance, making it a little bit more of a challenging workout. If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments!

FYI -- When drilling a hole in wood, periodically pull the drill back out some to allow the chips to clear and it will make for easier drilling than just trying to power your way through like you were doing at the 3m00s portion of the video...
Want for resistance in pedaling? Raise the front wheel so that you're always pedaling uphill? :)
Seriously though... I wonder if it would be possible to hook another chain drive in the derailleur and have it drive a blade so that it could serve a dual purpose of keeping you cool...

If you don't have a boring bit, you could also cut a wedge at that spot, too. 1 less tool.

Yeah but if there’s hardly any resistance at all then you could’ve added stabilisers to the bike and took the chain off as there would be no difference

its commonplace to ad resistance by holding down the brakes with some rubber bands or zipties. its much more efficient than a roller as new brake pads are much more inexpensive and easier to swich than a worn out tire would be ; )

What kind of bolts are did you use in this video?

An idea for the resistance, install horizontal rollers from left to right.
I'm thinking of 3/8 all thread rod inside a piece of half inch pipe. Probably only need two pieces.
Watch video of building your own treadmill.
I'm planning on using jack stands. Your video gives me an idea of how to place the metal rods and conduit with the bicycle sitting on those conduits.
    Thanks! 🙂

It has so far! When I ordered the pegs, I made sure that they were rated for my weight, great question!

Can I have measurements please thankyou for your video happy exercise

    • @thewoodworkinghusky3284
      @thewoodworkinghusky3284  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The measurements are based off the tire of your bike. I don't want to give you wrong measurements, and then your bike won't fit!

Looks like the angle between the axle and the top of the base support is about 60 degrees... The width of the base is going to depend on the length of the pegs you buy plus the width of the bike at the rear axle... From this, you should be able to calculate what you would need for your particular bike...
