Thanks gents for introducing me to this house. I just made it through the sample set and was extremely impressed with the line-half of which resonated strongly with me. But this one and Tabac Vert were my favorites. In and effort to determine my favorite chypre, I pitted Chypre-Siam against seven other popular chypres-and it rose victorious. So smooth and balanced, without any sharpness or heavy-handedness. A bottle is surely in my future!
If ifra took hold in the US I’d go out of business. Or have to go underground, or be a “not perfume” loophole brand. I am so glad I don’t have to worry about that BS and can make my art the way I want it. Refreshing to see more reviewers take some interest in small indie perfumers’ work and in authentic natural materials 😊
My bottle arrived today and I was not disappointed. To smell real oakmoss is amazing and it’s really classily blended with all the other notes with none of the old lady powder of Mitsouko (which I don’t like). If you are worried about ordering from the US and customs etc. don’t be; Manuel Cross labels it as ‘bath oil’. Smart move. I want to try his Tabac perfume now...
Was wandering how it smelled. I use to, when I was young, take a pole and gather moss. Mainly for decorations in southern Louisiana. The moss had a musky old smell
I just purchased Chypre-Siam from Manuel and mentioned to him that I found out about his fragrances from watching this video. I am also getting a sample set of the rest of the fragrances.
I heard about it few weeks ago. But I can't remember where! Isn't amazing that most of the unique and top quality perfumes are coming from 'non-professionally' trained perfumers! Thanks a lot for the reminder. I'll get a bottle very soon. On the topic of Chypre, you need to try Encens Chypre (EC), which Sultan Pasha made as ode to the vitange Mitsuoko. EC lasts at least 9 hours on my dry skin. The dry down is a thing of beauty with buttery smooth incense with green foresty vibe. I love the genuine civet in it.
Really influencing.... Just a question....compared to MUGLAR Cypressime (exclusive collection) what is it view in terms of smell....projection n longevity ???
How does this compare to Clinique's Aromatics Elixir? I have AE plus I have Mitsouko. Wondering whether I also need Chypre Siam except maybe for the scandal of real oakmoss.
It feels far more luxurious than the modern AE. I've got 3 versions of Mistouko (modern EDT, EDP and 1980 extrait) but CS does have a quite a different feel. If you like the other to I'd suggest you'll enjoy CS, and I think it's different enough to justify having all 3.
fantastic review as always from both of you fragfam, would like to ask cause i wanted to order the whole samples from his line, and im from Philippines, does he going to send through your house, or i will be receiving in post office?
... I hope your gentlemen will do a full review of Masque Milano. A GREAT house of fragrances! I just received a full bottle of "Mandala" and its intoxicating, original and long lastings. All qualities I love in fragrances. Regards...
Nope. Sorry guys. I tried to like Chypre Siam, but I just couldn't stop being taken back to my Grandma's bathroom. I even wore it around my wife, who has learned to give honest reveiws when I come up to her and say, "What about this one?" She said Nope. Too old ladyish. I let it develop for a while and came back to get the same answer. Now, I've tried 8 of Rogue's samples, and the one that I think is a true stunner is Mousse Illuminee. I went ahead and bought a bottle. It's full of oakmoss but it smells almost like vintage Polo green. I'm really liking it. Another Rogue I'll probably buy is Fougere L'Aube. Very, VERY green smelling. Much better than Creed's GIT. I can't stop sniffing it.
rvarnum interesting-every nose is different. I just got the Rogue sample kit, but have only tried Chypre-Siam and Mousse Illuminee-and I must say I vastly prefer the former. Beautifully composed fragrance. While there’s certainly powder, I get more of a green, woody, and floral Chypre vibe-I’d like to do a side by side comparison with Mitsouko, MAAI, and Chypre Palatin to see which takes the throne for me. I really wanted to like MI, but unfortunately, like Zoologist Dodo, it reminds me of tending to my pets while growing up-hamster cage for MI, and bird aviary for Dodo. To elaborate: MI gives me the cedar wood chips for its bedding, the green pellets and frozen veggies for its food, and the fuzzy musk from the animal itself. Sadly, another example of an otherwise quality fragrance marred by a past memory. 🤷🏻♂️
rvarnum very interested in the Fougere L’Aube, especially when you mention it besting GIT for fresh green scent. GIT (and other greens like Colonia Club, Bleeker St, and Beach Hut Man) always gave me a headache for some reason.
Thanks for introducing this one to me. Sounds great! Have a great weekend chaps.
FRAG-MENTAL from what I’ve heard the others from the house are equally as impressive.
Great review Gentleman! I'm going to order these from this house! Many Thanks for the reviews!

That's impressive, to triumph in a category of such pre-existing quality. But, it is special stuff! Glad you're enjoying it!

Tabac Vert is FABULOUS!
IFRA can go where the sun doesn’t shine! “Bureaucracy destroys art”. All will be lost, if we’re not careful. Sorry for the typo..

Yes, I’ve heard of EC. We need to get into Sultan Pasha
👀 must investigate
Does the church have bells? Smells ftom the bells?
😂🤣😂
Have you tried Tabac Vert? It's meant to be a Derby-esque attempt
I’ve yet to try it, but if it smells like Derby I’ll have to check it out!
Really influencing....

I’ve not smelt the Mugler, but the performance of CS is excellent.

Sounds interesting, cheers fellas
It’s a gem! Thanks for stopping by.

I think it should get straight to you.
Sounds great. If you'd be interested in selling your bottle, I'd be interested in buying it from you. I'm in the UK.
Bob Bob sorry, I’m definitely keeping mine!
Too much ECHO guys, very hard to hear you?...
Yeah, sorry about that
