Sarah really stole the show. I have seen some interviews with perfumers and most of them were boring, even perfumers I really love. But this interview was both informative and entertaining, Sarah has a lot of charisma and personality , she should consider starting a TH-cam channel. I think I should sample some of her fragrances
Natural ingredients. The first comment was spot on, they use this in food as well. castorium is a natural ingredient that can taste, or smell like caramel, or vanilla when used in various amounts. however, this ingredient comes from the scent gland of a male beaver.
What a lesson in fragrances. I come away with a whole new perspective and feeling completely inadequate. It would really be a service to anyone interested in blending fragrances to hear this. Thanks!!
It’s funny how Joe jokingly said “that’s my favorite” about methyl ionone gamma.. cuz that’s is my fave ionone, well most of the time. I feel like you can push it in different directions. But you can with any ionone really huh. I love this stuff! I love both your channels soo much.
Absolutely. I’ve started dabbling with materials now, and I think I would put methyl ionone gamma Coeur or Iralia in pretty much any Chypre/floral/woodsy
I'm just getting into exploring perfumes and this has been a complete eye opener. Truly, who'd be a perfumer, though very, very glad people do want to be one.
Congratulations guys , what a honour to visit Sarah and to have the opportunity to smell some of her unique materials and creations! Good interview! Such a passionate person she is and so much knowledge. Looking forward a resume from you (after sometime) to hear what did you guys find more interesting and what would you like to discuss deeper. Thank you for sharing 😘
This video was BEYOND fascinating. When I was growing up in southern Virginia we had an old mimosa tree in the front yard. Individually the flowers smelled so good, kinda like watermelon and gardenia mixed. But when the whole tree was blooming and you smelled the "overall" effect it smelled *just* like hot dogs. So know what you mean about the whole rose thing. Whenever I smell perfumes that claim to have "mimosa" I always think it smells nothing like actual mimosa.
I think this might be one of the best episodes you guys have done!! Clear, concise and with humour, I didn’t want it to end. 4612 Tuesday is now on my list to check out. Thank you all.
Without a doubt this is one of the best, most informative videos I've seen in ages! All of you (Sarah included!) are so fantastic and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for providing this informative and entertaining video.
This was THE most informative and fascinating video. Wow. Sarah is so knowledgeable. Cursed IFRA and finally clarified the ambiguity of synthetics and naturals. I love rose, but masculine rose scents my forever quest.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. This has been hands down the most informative video on fragrances I have ever seen! Really good job to all of you!
This is a fantastic video that every fragrance enthusiast should watch. Thank you for making this happen, and thank you to Sarah for her insight. And, yes, Paul Smith Rose *is* that good.
LOVE this video, and your other videos as well. The part about IFRA was near jaw-dropping and I hope the subject can be discussed more thoroughly in the future. Thanks so much!
Wonderful and so informative, I would love for Sarah to dive deeper in more videos. As a small perfumer this type of information is so helpful, thank you all!!
This video has popped up for me at the right time. I. An absolutely appreciate this conversation/workshop today more than I could 2 months ago. Totally getting elevated.
Thanks Sarah for this mini-workshop, hope you will make a video of your new studio ...and that I win the lottery so I can attend a class ; ) Great job guys for coming up with such important questions! and thanks for adding chapters with minutes.
I have a question .... Are the tester bottles you see in shops made of a stronger formulation of the ones you buy of the shelf ? One of the best fragrance videos I've seen . Many thanks to all three of you.
Very good and useful video. Those like us who love PERFUMES and try to make it, are interested in watching more videos like this. We are from India - Kerala
Wow, this was absolutely amazing! What a great interview! I wouldn't mind a feature length tbh ;) Also, I remember I read somewhere that yellow amber doesn't have a scent and the amber accord was just something made up. I'm from Poland and every polish grandma has an amber necklace. I need to visit mine and heat up the ambers and check if I can smell anything ;)
That's what i am looking for, an artisan speaking more technically about this craft, i see many reviews and opinions about perfumes on yt, but not much content about the actual craft, materials and practices. So thanks
Thank you Dan, Joe and Sarah! This was outstanding! There is much to learn here, yet 53 minutes went by quickly. As you can tell by the comments, this is what your viewers want. I’d have never guessed that synthetic ingredients smell more “natural” than natural ones. I’ve been under the impression that vintage formulations are usually more appealing that current formulations. Is that not always the case? Also, do certain ingredients, natural or synthetic, breakdown over time, thus weakening the note? For instance, I purchased 1/4 oz. of Shalimar Extrait in a Parapluie bottle from the late 60’s, based on the bottle and box, and the top notes seem to be missing. It starts of with the leather note and warms to the vanilla. Could the ingredients used to make the bergamot and other top notes have broken down or vanished through evaporation or otherwise?
@@SarahMcCartney Thank you very much for the tip Sarah 😃😊 I've got orris and I've just followed you on Instagram (Ikramusan and parfums.ikram2019). I've wanted to know how to create violet, now you have given the secret.
Interesting. I haven’t owned any her frags yet, dearest friend has quite few collection. Can’t wait to get nose of everything from her. 🙏 Sarah, next holiday I’ll drag my friend to visit your shop. 😊🤨🤭❤️
Very very informative indeed! A delightful discussion over a cup of “alcoholized tea”😂🤣😇.... Looking back, joking this Channel was one of the best decisions I’ve made in the past year few years Fragrance-wise.... You guys are an incredible duo and I hope you stay friends because your chemistry and dynamics are outstanding.....
Sarah comes across as such a lovely person. Very attracted to both her look and way ... Very much a diversion here but ... this is the interesting thing about attraction that the move to internet dating has totally screwed ... honestly, anyone that’s doing tinder and the like STOP! and talk to real people ... get the butterflies back and start genuinely being excited about people ... Apart from that ramble, interesting and informative vides, well made guys and Sarah ... quality content.
Hey gentlemen, just recently found(and subscribed to) your channel. Found it whilst searching reviews of the house of Geo F. Trumper. Thank you so much for this interview! It has really opened my eyes to just how much goes into making a fragrance! Also, I’ve never owned a full bottle of 4160 Tuesdays Fragrance(only sample bottles from a fragrance subscription service) but I now feel that I MUST own a bottle! My wallet thanks you both! Haha. 😂
I might be wrong but she created a wonderfull perfume for misc and co. It’s called under hill, it’s suppose to be all natural and I can say it smells wonderful. Cheap too.
This seminar would cost a good penny if found in a university....thanks for the free educational workshop.
Bloody loved this!!! This should be compulsory viewing for all frag heads. Wafts + Sarah = winning formula ❤️
Smurfygurly thanks Claire!

Thank you for taking the time to put this one together. It was great that Sarah was able to debunk a lot of the myths of perfumery. An absolute treat!
Cheers Chris.
Just came back to re-watch this. Sarah is an absolute gem, and I hope you get to do more of these ❤
It only hit me the other night, while frantically sniffing various scents from my collection:the next step is learn and make! Dead excited

And yet, insects are attracted to perfume. Very interesting and valuable content here gents. Perhaps your best video yet. Thank you to Sarah.
Yes, because much of the time floral perfume is made from the same chemicals as plants use. Bees love indole.
Incredibly helpful! I found myself making notes throughout, and was captive for the duration, happily I might add!
