Love my MODX7! I've had it for about a year now. Great choice for live performance and recording. Favorable+ comments from guests and bandmates nearly every gig! 16.5 pounds, too. Love it.
I agree ... I have short version of the same, MODX6, and for me, bandmates and colleagues from another bands, this is great sounding synth. And really lightweight, it´s perfect for gigging keyboardists. Love this keyboard.
The keyboard being compared is the Nord Electro 4, which is 19lbs. Having owned the ModX6 for about a month, I have to agree that is definitely a showstealer, when you add in the strings, and create your own patches.

Just got my MODX7 ; after owning most every popular pro keyboard for 40 years, this is the best and most capable that I’ve had to date. Absolutely fantastic instrument. I don’t think the Nord even comes close.
If you’re young, get the Yamaha. If you’re older and want an excellent instrument to actually play music, get the Nord. I had them both and feature wise the Yamaha blows the Nord away. But I kept the Nord, it was an easy decision once you listen to the sounds without effects (easily done on the Nord). You can shape the Nord sounds at your wish with effects or use it without them (just like a real instrument). The Yamaha sounds excellent but it feels like listening to an already processed recording. The problem with workstations as performers is that they have a certain base timbre which is the same across the board. The Nord has three sound engines, and they sound completely different. The piano and the synth sections are sample- based, so you can make them sound as two complete different instruments regarding timbre and tone. Creating and loading your own samples is dead easy. So in summary, if you like menu diving and a load of effects and layers, get the Yamaha. If you want to experience playing a more organic instrument, get the Nord. If you haven’t played a Nord, don’t base you’re opinion on just the features.
A real piano does not have as much bass as a nord. If you don’t believe me look up the comparison videos online of a nord stage 3 vs a real Steinway. In other words the nord has things that resemble a real piano but so does the modx. A more authentic copy of a real piano would be the Kawaii Mp11 and or the kawaii Vpc …. The nord sounds fantastic but that does not mean that it is truly authentic to a real piano. In shines in the high notes when it come to replicating an actual piano not so much in the lower and mid range.
Nord is way too expensive for what it is. A lot of hype for sure. Some of their samples are pretty great, but the instrument itself is overrated to the Nth degree.
Not quite, even the hardware is lowered, the actual synth engine is the very same on the montage. I'm not a fan of modx (nor montage) but that´s quite a feature to reckon with c:
I think the MODX probably has a broader palate, but I like how the Nord sounds, especially the E.P and strings. I think the Nord is more aimed at a popular music type of vibe, whereas the MODX could do anything, but does it do popular styles as well as the Nord? I don't think so.
I have both the Nord Stage 3 and MODX 8 they are both great digital pianos. But the MODX is a lot lighter to carry around gigs, especially if you have to walk up or down the stars.
I think that the pianos on the nord are far more detailed than the ones on the modx. The synth sounds, brass, etc are all superior on the modx, though.

When I play my beautiful acoustic guitar in our group, I put it through an electric guitar amp so that it will cut through and be heard above our keyboard player. He loves Nord...On my own I put the guitar through a beautiful acoustic amp, which does its softer sounds justice. That is kind of how I hear Nord, more prescence, slightly rougher, still good, and just what I might have to have in some bands. At home I have a MODX, and the sounds blow me away, allowing of course for 99% of the music being what I play, and how well I can play it. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear you could tweak either keyboard to sound like the other, although I haven't done so. I imagine it would be at a master level, with the differences in the presets being chosen for marketing reasons.
No se si es justa tu comparación, yamaha tiene muy buenos instrumentos. Hay que considerar que el uso de ambos instrumentos es distinto, todo Nord esta pensado para músicos en escenario, por eso fabrican todo por "separado" como tu observas, por que venden sus instrumentos pensado en que los va a tocar 1 sola persona en vivo. Aunque no soy fanatico del modx, si necesitas diseñar sonidos en estudio (por ejemplo) con el nord te quedas corto seguro. Saludos!
No hizo una justa comparación la accion de uno es distinta al otro y son teclados de dos gamas distintas de precios. De todas formas Yamaha hace pianos reales... se ve y se siente en sus sintetizadores. Me quedo con Yamaha lejos, Nord es una buena marca pero un poco sobre valuada
It is interesting how people perceive "thin". Yamaha may sound big and airy because have boosted lows(60hz and above), highs and reduced midds(around 6-7khz). majsterV so I actually don’t play Yamaha lol. I play korg Kronos and the nord sounds thin to me not because of the frequencies but because of the lack of ability to layer. On the nord stage 3 you can only layer up to 6 sounds on the electro only 2! Kronos and montage are layering up to 16 with no cpu clipping! Hence the thicker sound
I’ve been playing piano/keyboard for 12 years professionally. I’m a musician. Today I tried Nord stage and Yamaha Modx. Nord is way way better than Modx. No doubt! I haven’t played a piano like that before. Yamaha’s piano sounds are too weak.
The ModX is the little brother of the Montage. Comparing a pared down version of one brand against the full version of another is kind of silly at best. Having said that, a major factor when buying a new keyboard is the price point. For the price, the ModX is definitely the better piece, I dare say that it is better than, or at least on par with, the Montage.
I have the Montage 7 and the sound is amazing, I’ve played the Modx @ my local guitar center and its a great synth sounds so identical to its big brother but one thing sure is the Montage keybed is far superior than the Modx, i love the action on my montage feels similar to the one on the Korg Triton.
No matter how good both keyboard sounds. In the end it all comes down to how the player. If the person who plays it has the skills. Even a casio would sound good lol. I own Korg nautilus, Roland Fantom, And Yamaha montage .

Yamaha all the way. Nords sound cheap to me and are overpriced. Nord is like a fad that is happening. When I hear them compared to others, they don’t sound as good.
Nords are great, but too basic. I own Yamaha MOXF8 which is released more than 10 years ago, but gives me so much pleasure and is more tweakable/convenient than nords.
I will never go in to vsts I love my boards I have the modx6 roland FA06 korg krome ex as my newer boards now I'm waiting for my ASM hydrasynth and hoping to get the UDO SUPER 6 if it comes out.
@@Funky.Koval. a lot of us have vst's. It's still good to have a board with some bread and butter sounds in it and not have to break work flow digging through komplete 12 or some shit. Some may want to just carry their board out for the day and ditch the computer.
MODX 6 is only $1300. Rehashed but sounds somewhat better than it’s line history. It’s a good buy for one with no hardware gear. It’s a bit of a waste for guys just jumping the hype train and selling off the previous generation of gear at a loss to basically do what they can already do.
Everyone is talking sounds and not keybeds. These new synths have terrible keybeds. they feel like plastic toys. "Semi-weighted" is a brand name, not an actual product.
I can listen so well, how sterile the Yamaha sounds, even compared to the not much better sounding Nord, but Nord .. surely sounds more lively, more warm and more true, than this sterile sampling-sounding Yamaha-keyboard .. Sorry for all, who can't listen even that huge difference. Better play an original piano for to teach your ears well in the end .. ;) The Nord comes more close to the original at least .. :) I am not a Nord-fan b.t.w. .. but I still have ears ;)

I have both because there is no one keyboard that fits everything, the MODX is a good companion to the Nord

I agree with you, even though I only heard the demo videos, Nord is really something professional and different.

The mosx sounds fuller within the piano. In this video you can hear how thin the pianos om the nord is which is interesting

I totally agree with you. But Nord is crazy expensive compared to other brand on market like Roland ,Korg ,Yamaha.
MODX is always good value for money. However I think the Yamaha YC is more ideal to compare with the Node head to head.
