First things first - nice flag and #Notacult So 'BABYMETAL Death' is all based on a pun. The Japanese word desu (the U is silent) sounds a bit like the English word death, but it means 'to be, I am, you are, we are' etc. All they are doing is introducing themselves "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L" "Su-metal desu", Yuimetal desu", "Moametal desu", "BABYMETAL desu" ....or "I am Su-metal", "I am Yuimetal", I am Moametal", "we are BABYMETAL" and then everybody chants "Death Death Death Death Death". The introduction at the start translates as: "Legend 1997. (referring to the year of Su's birth) It is told that receiving the legendary neck brace from the god of Metal, she shall abandon her human life and be reborn as a goddess. The bloodline which has been passed down from ancient times is destined to be the guide, boarding the ark of time. The apocalypse is prophesied DOOMSDAY comes There remains... little time.." This whole show (Legend 1997) marked the final stage in BABYMETAL's transition from Idol sub-unit to independent metal band. It started with an obviously lip synced techno dance remix of 'Headbanger' with Babybones on stage for the next few songs while the girls sang and they mimed the instruments. For the last 5 songs the Kami Band were on stage playing live and this song was the finale. From their next big shows in Japan, early in 2014, the Kami Band became their full time backing band for all live shows. More importantly it was Su's 16th birthday and, as the translated intro explained, she was giving up her life as a human and her life as a Jpop Idol to be reborn as a Metal Goddess. They only crucify Su on special occasions (they did it twice for her 20th birthday in 2017 - so that makes 5 times in all ... so far). Oh yeah did I say #Notacult

My favorite Death is actually from Legend S which has her crucified on her 20 birthday and reborn as a golden God that transitions into a slower version of THE ONE. Also you using the dlag as a cape is funny because the song Akatuski uses capes for Su to dance in

This is easily the most metal thing I've ever seen a group do. Ozzy biting a bat's head off was accidental in not knowing it was real, so that still is up there because it was unscripted, but if I'm going overall, this wins because they had to plan this out and decide "Ya know what, let's do it to celebrate her 16th birthday!"

About the song. This was a concert opener. In japanese language the verb "desu", pronounced des, is a polite form of the verb _to be_ . So the girls tried to say it with cuteness putting the tongue between the teeth and it sounded cute and metal at the same time "dez"/ _death_ . This way, as a concert opener, they introduce themselves. "Su-metal death" _I am Su-metal_ , "Yui-metal death", "Moa-metal death", "Babymetal death" _we are Babymetal_ . But in the Legend 1997 show it didn't work exactly like that. This was the concert closer and here they were representing the death of Su-metal to be reborn with the soul of an ancient Metal warrior to fight the world in a Metal Resistance to make Heavy Metal great again. The name of Legend 1997 is not because it was in 1997. This show took place at the Makuhari Messe convent hall in Tokyo on december 2013. It was the birthday show for Suzuka Nakamoto and the concert was called "Su-metal Seitansai", _Su-metal's birthday festival_ . But as in the lore of Babymetal they are fighting a resistance to make metal great in the name of the fox god, every big arena concert for them is a battle, and for a battle won a new Legend is born (and a Blu-ray disc that you can buy to make Koba-metal happier). So the BRD of the "Su-metal seitansai" concert is Legend 1997, 1997 because it was Suzuka's year of birth. By the way. We are #NotACult 😏🦊

Rebirth is a big theme in Japan. This is a one off performance, usually Babymetal Death! is how they started the show, in a much less elborate peformance. They do know how to do spectacle. I can think of two other bands that can pull this off. Alice Cooper and Rammstein. The Headbanger performance you reacted to was the song immediately before this in concert, and Gimme Chocolate! was much earlier in the show.

This song always gets to me... It's like the gods are coming... or going (depends on if the song is openning or ending the show)... and it's them. The three little kitsunes, backed up by a monster of a band blowing minds off ... it's such a weird mix. This is the Babymetal I'm in love with... but the song that got me completely addicted to them was the very first one I listen from them: "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN" -- please do that one!!! Curious thing about it is that it was the iconic dance moves of "Catch Me" that made me want to watch it over and over and over and at some point I was looking around for more and more Babymetal ... I couldn't get enough.... The three will always be in my heart forever, whatever they do now or in the future... those first 5 years of Babymetal are some of the best things I watched and listen in my whole life. Babymetal became the first band from Japan to perform at the Wembley Arena. Yoshiki met with them prior to their Wembley performance, that delighted and awed the girls.

My second full-time job out of high school I was very bored working late (parts dept. at a car dealer), so my buddy and I were messing around. I tied a black trash bag like a cape, and put a cardboard box on my head while wearing a shirt that simply said "I eat glue". Needless to say, a few customers gave weird looks, and a few co-workers just said "that shirt makes so much more sense now." It was a fun time.

Everyone already filled you in on the play on words, and that they are not saying "Death", so I won't go there. What I *WILL* go into is the music. If you haven't figured it out, this song reeks of Metallica, because it's partly a tribute to Metallica. The opening riff? Straight from One. You could mesh this together with it and not miss a beat. Second. The neckbrace. That is a tribute to the drummer from the band X-Japan. He'd headbang so hard while playing drums that he all but broke his neck. So he had to wear a neckbrace whenever he played. Babymetal took that gimmick and ran with it. Third, the statue. Back to a tribute to Metallica. During their "..And Justice For All" tour in 1998, they had a statue of Lady Justice (they named her "Doris"). At the end of their show, the head of Doris would fall off the statue. That's what they did here, except that if you look close, it looks like the Statue of Mary (coincidentally, for this show, they opened it with Ave Maria (Hail Mary) ). There are no religious connotations for this, outside of a simple "being reborn". This is simply done for theatrics.

This show was actually one day after her 16 birthday, this show (and crucify) were in her honor. As she is being reborn as "metal godless" They did it only few times...... Other two girls I think are around 15 here. (bare in mind this show was almost 5 years ago)

Recommend distortion by BABYMETAL they collaborated with Angela from arch enemy that’s a good song and also recommend starlight as well I would say it’s a tribute to yui metal cause during a time yui metal fell ill and had to drop BABYMETAL to get well and in 2018-2019 she withdrew from the band to get better and wanted to follow her dream as a solo artist but BABYMETAL still supports her to succeed her own goals and one of the kami band guys that passed away I believe if the resources were correct

My second full-time job out of high school I was very bored working late (parts dept. at a car dealer), so my buddy and I were messing around. I tied a black trash bag like a cape, and put a cardboard box on my head while wearing a shirt that simply said "I eat glue". Needless to say, a few customers gave weird looks, and a few co-workers just said "that shirt makes so much more sense now."
It was a fun time.

Everyone already filled you in on the play on words, and that they are not saying "Death", so I won't go there. What I *WILL* go into is the music. If you haven't figured it out, this song reeks of Metallica, because it's partly a tribute to Metallica. The opening riff? Straight from One. You could mesh this together with it and not miss a beat.
Second. The neckbrace. That is a tribute to the drummer from the band X-Japan. He'd headbang so hard while playing drums that he all but broke his neck. So he had to wear a neckbrace whenever he played. Babymetal took that gimmick and ran with it.
Third, the statue. Back to a tribute to Metallica. During their "..And Justice For All" tour in 1998, they had a statue of Lady Justice (they named her "Doris"). At the end of their show, the head of Doris would fall off the statue. That's what they did here, except that if you look close, it looks like the Statue of Mary (coincidentally, for this show, they opened it with Ave Maria (Hail Mary) ). There are no religious connotations for this, outside of a simple "being reborn". This is simply done for theatrics.

This show was actually one day after her 16 birthday, this show (and crucify) were in her honor. As she is being reborn as "metal godless" They did it only few times...... Other two girls I think are around 15 here. (bare in mind this show was almost 5 years ago)

Recommend distortion by BABYMETAL they collaborated with Angela from arch enemy that’s a good song and also recommend starlight as well I would say it’s a tribute to yui metal cause during a time yui metal fell ill and had to drop BABYMETAL to get well and in 2018-2019 she withdrew from the band to get better and wanted to follow her dream as a solo artist but BABYMETAL still supports her to succeed her own goals and one of the kami band guys that passed away I believe if the resources were correct
