Airstream was founded by Wally Byam, an adventurous spirit born on the 4th of July in 1896. His upbringing included living in a wooden wagon towed by a donkey, similar to how his grandparents traveled along the Oregon Trail. This experience inspired his vision for travel trailers. Wally Byam’s dream was to build a travel trailer that moved like a stream of air, was lightweight enough to be towed by a car, and provided first-class accommodation anywhere.
