@@aaronarvizu1 I love exploring modes and I just tried it and it fit perfectly… So not to be totally theoretical ....the A minor could be substituted for B Locrian C Ionian or ... D Dorian. But ionian is more uplifting And does not work, but on the other hand Dorian is a more serious contemplative… and loves a minor key, And Locrian ....well it's the odd man out of modes but if used VERY judiciously it sounds great with a minor key . This is one man's opinion… But if we have someone who's well school in music theory they may be able to add more light on the subject

D Dorian" doesn't mean ish... all it says is that you are playin Am (natural minor scale), and playing the exact same notes. In this case ,one would play Am on the Am, G, F chords, and A harmonic minor over the E7, because E7 doesn't belong to the A natural minor scale, but to the A harmonic minor. A lot of guitar players thinks that a mode is a scale position, which it is absolutely not. If you want to have a basic grasp of what modes are , have someone or a backing track playing a C chord : then play C Ionian on it, then C Mixolydian, then Lydian. That way you will be actually playing and listening to modes. Proceed to the same thing with a Cm chord, then play along C Dorian, C natural minor, and C Phrygian.
A minor is the relative minor of C, and in C you can play D minor and B lo crían, becouse you are in C. A Harmonic minor gives a point, is an arabic sound that fits ok

I was doing an improv of this last night at a jam night, I use the minor pentatonic on first 3 chords, then harmonic minor on that E major, swapping that Dominant 7th for a major 7th, works well as far as I can tell, as that major note raises the 7th of the A minor.
@Thane Vakarian I have before, but not on TH-cam, had a very good recording on an elite strat I no longer own. I don't have good recording equipment. And my playing isn't always consistent, sometimes get some good stuff done though. Nice Mass Effect reference btw, was just thinking may be restarting trilogy tonight.
@Thane Vakarian also add second note in Aeolian on G major, as its the Major 3rd of G, just about picking good notes and playing with feel, and the e major is great for training in slight modulation.
if you use G# note over the Am chord, it gives a wonderful flamenco sound. Also you can use arpeggios and add some notes of the Am scale to give your sound more wealth.

haha no worries... all of them work. The chord progression is in the key of "A" minor, so A minor pentatonic (which is made out of 5 notes of the natural minor scale), the natural minor scale, and the harmonic minor scale all work on this chord progression. PS: since you're a beginner, I would suggest to play with the A minor pentatonic first until it becomes second nature and then move on to the other ones.
The typical scale used for this chord progression is A harmonic minor. You are correct that in A natural minor (often just called A minor), the E chord would be minor (because we have G, not G#), but in A *harmonic* minor, we use G# instead of G, which makes the E chord major. The full A harmonic minor scale is A B C D E F G# A. The reason this is done is that Em -> Am is a pretty weak resolution, but E (or E7) -> Am is a much stronger resolution. I encourage you to play around with it yourself and see how these different resolutions feel to you! A harmonic minor on the E maj chord..the rest is A natural minor scale or A aolian for those that prefer to call it that...lol..
E Phrygian Dominant goes smoothly over it too

¡Olé!. This is a good scale for Phrygian and pentatonic so you can easily go up the neck and play... I'd say whatever is in your heart and mind
You have to use A,B,C,D,E,F,G#. This is the correct scale.

haha no worries... all of them work. The chord progression is in the key of "A" minor, so A minor pentatonic (which is made out of 5 notes of the natural minor scale), the natural minor scale, and the harmonic minor scale all work on this chord progression.
PS: since you're a beginner, I would suggest to play with the A minor pentatonic first until it becomes second nature and then move on to the other ones.

But the thing is, I'm trying to find the key. that matches with these chords. If I take Amin key, then the E Maj would be minor
The typical scale used for this chord progression is A harmonic minor. You are correct that in A natural minor (often just called A minor), the E chord would be minor (because we have G, not G#), but in A *harmonic* minor, we use G# instead of G, which makes the E chord major. The full A harmonic minor scale is A B C D E F G# A.
The reason this is done is that Em -> Am is a pretty weak resolution, but E (or E7) -> Am is a much stronger resolution. I encourage you to play around with it yourself and see how these different resolutions feel to you!

@@benjaminplaut7489 nvm i got it thanks man. I already know abt the harmonic minor batural minor or melodic minor. As well as the major scale and its modes. At the time i was stuck up on the major scale and ots modes forgeting about the near all the other scales and their modes. In the harmonic minor the 7 isnt a b7 its just seven. And the 7 note in the harmonic minor is the major 3rd of v chord making it V. I got it thwnks man
