Thank you for posting this! I just opened my etsy shop a few weeks ago. Out of nowhere, I’m seeing in my feed all these videos about getting out of Etsy. It was making me crazy! You’ve brought up so many good points and I’m better now 😊 Thank you ❤
Regarding etsy shipping. When I shop on etsy I always check where the item is shipping from. There were sellers who lied about where their products are shipping from.
We've been selling handmade jewelry on Etsy since 2015, but this has been our worst year so far. We've had just one sale in the past three months, and our listings are nowhere to be found on Etsy. The first page is dominated by fake and synthetic jewelry

When it comes to Etsy fees, don't forget the sales tax part. They collect it from the buyer and then submit it to the appropriate state on your behalf. I've sold to all but 3 of the lower 48 states in my 13 months on Etsy. I can't imagine having to manage the bookkeeping of sales tax for 45 different states. As an added bonus, Etsy gets you reduced shipping rates with the post office. At the moment, Etsy fees amount to 13.6% of my gross product sales. That's just product sales, not sales plus whatever is collected for shipping and sales tax. For everything you get, payment processing, marketing, sales tax handling, etc., that's a pretty good deal.
@@edennis8578 that’s true but I’ve only had 2 of those kinds of sales this year, out of 120+ sales. That 13% that I mentioned has those two sales included. About $11 for those 2 ad sales.
Every state has a threshold when it comes to taxes. You don’t report taxes directly to a state until you hit a number of sales and/or a minimum of money.
I never understood the hate on Etsy fees. All the fees combined are less than $3, which beats paying $30 a month for your own website domain. Like you said, you’re being exposed to millions of eyes everyday and can easily come up in search results if you do your SEO properly. I’ll gladly take this over having to make my own traffic which can be difficult sometimes.
My website is Woocommerce and free because I already have hosting. I sell $3 supplies. I got an order for one $3 item from Australia and shipping was $20. Etsy takes 6.5% shipping cost so I realized I have to stop selling internationally because I lost $ on that order. So Etsy fees are too high in my opinion but I get more sales on there so I definitely won’t quit selling on there I just have to stick to US only.
Thank you for this take on ETSY. I have not opened my shop yet and was worried with all the info I have heard. I agree with all your points. Thanks for the proactive tips for setting up.
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts! Don't let the info overwhelm you. Take it step by step, and you'll do great when you open your shop. Keep me posted on your journey!
I doubt that tiny little $15.00 one time fee will stop the majority of scammers from opening up a store to collect money and not ship anything because they stand to make a lot more than $15.00. I think they should charge $100.00 one time fee to open a shop, now THAT will stop at some of those scammers. That is still a lot cheaper to open a business online versus a brick and mortar store.

I’m also a long time seller of Etsy and stop temporarily due to the pandemic. I started again last year and i have like one sale per month 🤨. After Etsy started the “localisation” thing, now i have zero sales. Why? I’m from Malaysia and 95% of my customers are from USA and 5% from UK. So what’s local to me? I have no customers from Malaysia so I end up with zero sales! My last resort is to follow what Etsy advised, to give free shipping to US buyers who shop above $35 and also my listing will be viewed by US people. Well, guess what? It doesn’t work! I have less than 5 views per day and most of the time zero views! So, what do think of my situation? I think as a seller in America, it’s most beneficial 😂. I think Etsy should lift this “localisation” thing and let people have to freedom to buy from other countries too, that’s what online shopping is about, you are able to purchase from the whole wide world! 😅
I want to start by saying I've appreciated your videos but after 1 year of selling digital products (I know, I know) I've decided to stop creating more. My sales are almost non-existent. I took your suggestion of using Pinterest to promote my items and while I get notices daily of DOZENS of people repinning, virtually none of them have brought sales. I started Etsy as just something to fill spare time but I think I'm done.

Except for you Etsy Guru's, anyone else with an Etsy store should be glad to have other sellers leave as there are too many sellers and not enough buyers in comparison. I don't currently have an Etsy store but I used to have several. If I were still on Etsy, I'd be happy to have sellers leave. Just being honest and I'm not the only one who thinks that.
I also have another comment that is different for my previous comment and that people need to start cross-selling out of Etsy This is what I’m doing I built my own website e-commerce and pretty soon. I’m going to be putting an image text graphic on every listing to let people know that there’s new products that they cannot find on SC on my regular website. I already have a five star shop so hopefully people trust buying from my Etsy shop. Just seen the reviews. And I’m going to be actually messaging my own previous customers giving them a 20% off coupon code if they decide to purchase from my regular website now I’m also going to be uploading an infographics letting people know that if they want a freebie they can visit my website to download it That way, I can get their email as well So I don’t think it’s necessarily shutting down Etsy I think everyone just needs to focus on other traffic as we always should have from the very beginning But a lot of people that may not have a full-time amount of time dedicated to an EC shop and building a brand and a website and addition to Etsy Yeah, we spent years becoming reliable on Etsy for the traffic Now we must use the traffic to pivot into our own website !
Hi Dylan as I had told you in another video, I have a shop for over a year with no issues, always pay their fees and even run a small paid advertising campaign and tried to open a second shop, did all the security requirements, ID Social and connected my Chase account and paid the $15 fee, within minutes they suspended my shop, I tried again this week, paid the $15 fee and they suspended that shop too within minutes, did not even get a chance to do the SMS part, it was right after I paid the fee, so how can I chat with them to see if everything is okay? Still got rejected even though I have an existing shop, so now this totals to $30 they took from me, is that fair? Not happy with Etsy anymore and no one can seem to help me. By the way, I always apply with the same name, same address, same social security, same driver's license, same cell phone, same bank account from Chase, all of these match my active store, there is something wrong here and when I appeal they can't tell me what's wrong.

I am tired of buying off Etsy sellers that have a USA store front but the item ships from China or the Middle East. It also seems to affect sizes of items Seems to me like false advertising. If your selling items from overseas places then say so
Do you have your own Etsy store or just looking into it?
Wow, that was so helpful thank you!
Glad my video was helpful! :) You have a shop already?
Less about the fees and more about the horror stories of the random shop closure with no chance of appeal.
This can happen. That is why it is important now to have guidance with you etsy shop to lessen the chances of this happening. How long have you had your shop?
Nothing in life is easy, or want to be easy because easy have no growth, However, owning your website sellers own customers information, not restricted what can be sold. And, sellers have a better control in their business, because when sellers invest on Etsy they is no assurance that will alive now into the future. The experience you gaining from owning your website by Learning new skills from SEO, Marketing, Advertising and Customer Experience, skills is best available assets
Absolutely! With the correct strategy and mindset we can definitely do it. Curious, do you have an Etsy Shop already or looking to open one?
Lol this video was kind of a waste of time? Click bait to make it seem like she was quitting Etsy or is it just me????
Sorry you feel that way! My goal was to share info on why Etsy might close shops unexpectedly. Appreciate your feedback!
Same.
Great tips, Dylan. Always enjoy your videos. Side question, do you have videos on analyzing Etsy stats?
I appreciate you! So to answer you, analyzing Etsy stats is one of the key things that I go over with my students or to the people who were scheduling a free chat with me and my team

Do you feel like your strategies right now, like your SEO is working? Or if it can help to tweak your SEO or your overall strat with your sales?
I want to start by saying I've appreciated your videos but after 1 year of selling digital products (I know, I know) I've decided to stop creating more. My sales are almost non-existent. I took your suggestion of using Pinterest to promote my items and while I get notices daily of DOZENS of people repinning, virtually none of them have brought sales. I started Etsy as just something to fill spare time but I think I'm done.
Thanks for sharing! Do you think you were able to fully implement the recommendations from the video?
@@dylanjahraus I believe so yes. I think my biggest issue, even with what I believe is really good SEO (based on my history of building websites and the software Alura that I use) most of my listings are just buried in the pages.
Have you ever considered getting outside help?
Hello, great video! I was wondering how you contact Etsy? I have looked but it just takes me to all Q&A sites. I have recently just moved to USA from Australia and I would love them to check I have made all the correct changes in my Etsy shop.
Welcome to the USA! If it helps, me and my team can check your store. We can have a free chat by scheduling a call here: calendly.com/dylanjahraus/the-ultimate-etsy-course-qualification-call-f
I'm curious as to why you left Etsy? How did your stores go before?
Well done! Stop all negativity around the platform!!!👍
Thank you! Let's keep the positive vibe going! :)
Love your video. I just dont like Etsy ads, they are ridiculous per click! Im more about organic now.
Yes they are! How is your shop doing with your strat?
@dylanjahraus it is not at the results that I want but I made $50 last month. I have been trying to sub niches that sell well with everbee.
How much is your monthly goal if you are to scale your shop? What's the ultimate goal? :)
@dylanjahraus 4000-5000 a month, enough to quit my 9-5 job lol
That's achievable with Etsy but your going to need to put in more effort with your shop.
What about Amazon merch on demand ? can you compare these two?
We can continue this conversation on IG. We can talk more there about your question. Here's my handle @DylanJahraus.
I also have another comment that is different for my previous comment and that people need to start cross-selling out of Etsy
This is what I’m doing
I built my own website e-commerce and pretty soon. I’m going to be putting an image text graphic on every listing to let people know that there’s new products that they cannot find on SC on my regular website.
I already have a five star shop so hopefully people trust buying from my Etsy shop. Just seen the reviews.
And I’m going to be actually messaging my own previous customers giving them a 20% off coupon code if they decide to purchase from my regular website now
I’m also going to be uploading an infographics letting people know that if they want a freebie they can visit my website to download it
That way, I can get their email as well
So I don’t think it’s necessarily shutting down Etsy I think everyone just needs to focus on other traffic as we always should have from the very beginning
But a lot of people that may not have a full-time amount of time dedicated to an EC shop and building a brand and a website and addition to Etsy
Yeah, we spent years becoming reliable on Etsy for the traffic
Now we must use the traffic to pivot into our own website !
Can I ask, for how long have you been running your Etsy Store?
Sorry this has been your experience with Etsy. I would normally direct other sellers to Etsy customer supports for this matter. If you're our student, contact a coach if possible. If you are interested in our courses and program, pls book a call here.

Interesting! Shoot me a message on IG! Let's talk more there about your plans for your shop. Here's my handle @DylanJahraus.
hi, thanks for these highlights, i wanna ask u something, i have just opened a shop on Etsy for like a couple of hours ago, after the payment of 15 dollars and finishing the setup i couldn't access my account anymore ! what could be the problem ? and thank u in advance
Have you reach out to Etsy customer support for assistance?
@@dylanjahraus yes, they mailed me just 4 hours after filing an appeal and now problem resolved, thank you
Awesome! Can I ask, what prompted you in the first place? Is there a goal you had in mind with Etsy?
@@dylanjahraus in fact, i started POD business a couple of days ago and from what i searched it seems like etsy the best market to go in! you have another advice or recommandation ?
Wow! We have lots of students also doing POD, we have a very recent one that shared from 50 sales, they are now hitting 1k sales. :)
How much money would you like to make per month with your shop?
I didn't understand!
You got an Etsy Shop or looking to create one?
