In an era before non-disclosures or release forms were a thing, it's fascinating to me that none of the studio audience (let alone the production team) thought to tip off the celeb-salacious tabloid press for financial gain ahead of transmission.. what you're seeing/hearing here is something recorded "as live" and all credit to the legend that is Aspel meaning no pick-ups necessary at the end of recording. Brilliance all-round. EDIT: Hmmm, is the director's cue for "Applause, Applause!" code to play in the sound effect and occasionally cut to stock footage of an audience applauding? Discuss! These never went out live.

Oh I love live TV - High stress right up until the moment it's in the can, then it all dissipates in a heatbeat.

Its recorded 'as live' we sometimes do a safety cut, all the cameras are 'iso'd' meaning they're all recorded the show then is tidied up the show up in the edit. 'As lives' are about 90% ready for broadcast.
