@@simonw.1223 and next and next and next and oh, the fans are dying of old age. Bet they'll still say with their last breath that the game coming on on the year they die is also a beta test for the next one.
I never understood the hype for Pokémon, but it is clear that this is a matter of the company putting quantity over quality. But given how Pokémon continues to sell regardless of the quality, it's not too surprising.
Exactly. People will buy anyway, so they don't give a fuck and get their money. It's just like what FIFA or Assassin's Creed became, a hopeless piece of shit that people still defending. If it was just for the graphics it would be fine. But the game mechanics itself are long gone...
When a free mobile game has better graphics than these 60 or 50 dollar games it really says something edit: there seems to be a argument here, I feel like I have to clarify this isn't a personal attack towards Gamefreak or Nintendo, this was just a random brainless thought I had please don't start a war in the comments over a random dude who plays genshin impact too much (I know there are other games with good graphics it's just that genshin impact was the first game that came too mind) although I do enjoy the free attention
I mean, I’m not gonna defend he last 3 games graphics (arceus, diamond/pearl port, or sword/shield) are funnily bad. But the gens before this are pretty good
Why does noone have a concept of scale those mobile games have barely a quarter of the content or size and development teams 4x the size of Pokemon's.... Y'all are dumb
Blows my mind that some people will say “graphics don’t matter I care about gameplay and story” but are referring to games that have been the exact same gameplay and story for two decades.
Pokemon has finally reached the point where at least to me they have no selling points anymore, everything is the same as the last game, with a new slab of land that is getting more and more poorly modeled every game, new pokemon and probably a new gimmick on the lines of "Mon does big overpowered thing that breaks the game, and the fan favourites get their exclusive version of big overpowered thing" All of which I can just watch footage of because I ain't loosing anything in the gameplay department given that the newer games can be beat by just spamclicking A til the credits roll
Personally i agree with the “graphics are less important, gameplay is super important” sentiment but… Pokémon is definitely NOT my first thought when it comes to games like that 😬
@@TheLadKC ironic how you're talking about the gimmicks and "being different from others" When in that comment you replied to that I guess you didn't read or something I literally said how all 3 gimmicks so far are just variations of "pokemon plays animation then hits hard", and how it doesn't add anything to gameplay because said gameplay involves just clicking the same move 20473 billion times, hell it makes it worse by making your same move stronger as if that wasn't easy enough
I feel like people always take the phrase "graphics aren't as important as gameplay" a little too seriously. They think that it means 'as long as the game is fun then it can look like crap'. A better way of putting it is "*realistic* graphics aren't as important as gameplay". You shouldn't focus all your resources early on to making the game look like a real photograph, but you also can't just ignore the artstyle. You have to make sure you have a base for what the game will look like early on in development, so that if something isn't working, you have plenty of time to fix or even remove it. Working on the art early is even more important if the gameplay relies on art at any point.
I'm fine with a game looking like crap as long as the gameplay and story are good. I think people like you are why there are so many boring games nowadays.
@@DR--- I probably would've never gotten into games if every game looked like complete shit. Good graphics really draw you into the experience. If a game looks terrible, the game is harder to get into. If LeafGreen had really sloppy spritework, I wouldn't have even bothered to play it as much as I did.
@@DR--- well Banjo Kazooie looks really good and better than PLA. Even banjo kazooie is like 47.96 MB big has a nice soundtrack and nice graphics. I played also a free game called swllow the see and it got a pixel artstyle and it looks fitting while pokemon has a artstyyle but it looks really bad
I don’t get the yearly release of games for Pokémon. Just because your a giant video game franchise, doesn’t mean you should releae a game every year, or lately 2 games a year. That’s a bad idea. Take your time to make a great product. I feel like ever since they started this yearly trend in 2016, the quality of the main games have been going downhill.
An example is when they released pokemon sun and moon instead of pokemon z, or when they will release this pokemon instead of a graphically better pokemon legends arceus
its not a 3 year gap between mail line games, its a 3 year gap between generations. its a 1 year gap between main line games, of course an extra 2 years would be enough, given they had the time
I think the style of pokken tournament could look good on a new, traditional pokemon game. Especially the move animations since, ya know, the pokemon do more then hover towards their opponents.
and we'd have to wait a decade for it to be done and then even longer to have a cartridge it'd fit on, pokken tournament gets away with it's fancy as fuck looks because you could almost fit the entire roster on one big bus
The fact gamefreak are releasing games that look generation’s behind while Nintendo is also releasing games like botw and xenoblade, and third parties releasing games like the witcher, outer worlds and no man’s sky, it really is inexcusable that these games look so subpar.
nintendo isnt making the games, the pokemon company is making the games under nintendo, so they dont have as big of a budget as the other games that nintendo is directly making

They're apparently forgetting the human rights that they need to maintain for their employees. And Game Freak doesn't instantly get the money, the TPC does. The TPC is in control of their disgusting merchandise machine, which, believe it or not, has sold way more than the games, also the longest-running video game adaptation of an anime.

Thing is, mainline games already come out every 3 years BDSP had no game freak involvement and legends arceus was developed by a B team SWSH released in 2019 and SV will release in 2022, they begin development of another game as soon as one comes out You can even see they reused legends arceus's animations by the lucario in the trailer, so the B team's work is contributing to the A teams So SV has 3 years and 1 fully dedicated team on it, plus parts of the B team's work Sure 4 years would be wayyy nicer but they definitely got development time for these games, it just doesn't *feel* like it
@@aurum3747 There's been speculation of the longer length of development, which is a pretty plausible theory. Hear me out, in Gen 7, there were a minuscule amount of Spanish references and hints. Also, Masuda and his crew went to Iberia after ORAS's release. They might've had the idea since 2014, so that was 8 years ago. But, I don't think they've started development around that timeframe. It's most probable they started development, either before S/M, before US/UM, after S/M, or after US/UM. 2015-2017 is a pretty solid timeframe for the start of development. They would've had 7-5 years of development time. And also, the Nintendo Switch was released around 2016, which was the year of release of the Gen 7 games. And *ALSO, ALSO*, it seems they have the same art style as Detective Pikachu, which was first developed in the year 2013 and was released in 2018. I'm pretty hopeful for this generation. I appreciate bw since day 1 :/ esp appreciate ice cream pkmn (it’s final evolution back sprite had a smiley face on it it’s hard to not say no to such a unique design 🥰 same w zen mode Darm OMG)
It's that way because they keep lowering the bar. You know why Sword and Shield is suddenly an alright game? It's not because it became a better game, it's because Scarlet and Violet make it look amazing by comparison. Also imo Alola was never good
Y'know what other game was released early and was filled with bad stuff as a result? Sonic 06. And just like Sonic 06, these games would be better if more time was put into them
Yup. I will forever maintain that Sonic 06 would be in the top 5 Sonic games, up there with the Adventure games, and 3&K, if they just had more time to finish it.
I don't know how people can say Pokemon has acceptable anime graphics when games like BoTW and Genshin Impact exist. Pokemon doesn't exist in a vacuum.
Sadly theire are too much stupid fanboys.. my last game Was ultrasun since then pokemom dont feel the same. Dont even want to play it anymore cause it dont improve more like going backwards
As predicted the graphics and animations look like sh it. It's quite embarrassing that they make billions from this franchise and can't even invest that money back into it.
Honestly the graphics being a pretty big improvment over SwSh makes me only worried about the more mechanical and gameplay related aspects of the game, i can take ps2 graphics if they dont cut my pokes and make actual good maps, the release date has me worried for the quality but seeing how they made some steps with arceus im hopeful but wary
really? you guys complain about the graphics then when we get a graphics upgrade you start worrying about gameplay? some of you guys are just looking for something to complain about sometimes, i swear
@@Shimofae i never worried that much about graphics, i only got mad at the graphics in SW&SH after they revealed all that bullshit with cut pokemon and the bad maps Legends may have "bad" graphics for today standards but its really good gameplay wise and with its decent graphics it dosnt deserve complaining, stop assuming genuine worry about the quality of games is looking for something to complain
They need more time, staff and budget. I'll repeat this till it improves but they have around 1/3 (250ish TOTAL) of the staff usually required for a AAA game (500 working on a single game), have minimal budget (20-30 mill brs 50-100+ mill) and unreasonable deadlines (1.5 years average currently vrs 3 years average from gens 1-5 ON THE DS). Gamefreak isn't full of incompetent idiots, it's a hyper competent studio working with less time and resources than the average COD game. They need to either have a major expandtion, subcontract to other studios or increase everything to at least industry standard to even come close to what they are capable of achieving. PLA was delayed 3 months with a minor budget(5ish mill) and staff increase (160ish to 250 ish), drastic improvements from the original trailer, while in varus time. Imagine what would happen if they got the BARE MINIMUM required to make a AAA game?
0:24 That's a severe understatement. A yearly release schedule almost appears to be a thing of the past given how GameFreak is releasing three series of games in a single years time!
Its been a concern of mine too honestly. I dont mind if they take 2-3 years to make a completely polished game. But to be fair, Sword and Shield was 2019, while Scarlet and Violet is 2022, which is the typical 3 year gap, but there has been a lot of games in between so it doesnt even feel like it
It's more Gamefreak is the sole dev, with 3 dev groups within the company for me. They are already understaffed, underfunded and have unreasonable deadlines. Gamefreak was working on PLA, Scarlet and Violet and a prototype game all at the same time. They are spread too thin.
I feel like they should wait for two more years for the game to be done because it getting more advanced then the old game which relay on a lot of time that why the old manage to do it fast since the graphics were simple enough. But we’re in the future where more effort is required.
They were probably working on PLA the same time as SV, and with 7 or 8 months of time to develop the graphics further-- I really hope they take that time to develop them more.
Yes, you're right. These games are made several years in advance before the the announcement. They have likely been working on SV since the Crown Tundra. Or maybe even the start of Sword/Shield.
@@supapiece3439 SV are probably also running off the same engine as PLA, so that leaves even more time for Game Freak to do some much-needed graphical updates and polishing
They've been hinting at the start of the development of this generation since Gen 7, which is around 2016, WHICH is when the Nintendo Switch became available worldwide. Judging by hints and references of a Spanish region, it's pretty minuscule.
the gamefreak lying part was fair, they took out over half the pokemon to make better graphics just for us to need mods to make the game bearable to the naked human eye. but what were we supposed to do when they gave us scvi, i mean obviously us complaining more isnt doing the trick

@@Summer_turtle_ The overall quality in Pokémon games got worse and worse after Gen 5. Legends: Arceus was the first mainline Pokémon I actually enjoyed since XY.
One thing I notice about these type of discussions is that they always compare how animated the Pokémon were in battle revolution (Which I agree with btw) but no one ever talks about how good the Pokémon animations in smash are esp with their Idle animations. Literally every Pokémon except for Incineroar (I think his animations are decent and expressive in the Pokémon games) has good animations in Smash. How come no one ever talks about Smash in these discussions?
@@enokitakes I can see that but imagine someone just taking your own characters and being able to convey their animations better. The smash animations would be so good if it was implemented into their Pokémon games. Hell they even have Mewtwo’s tail curved unlike it’s conical counterpart.
I'm fine with graphics not being great, but when it starts affecting the performance of a game, then we have a problem. I'm glad this video could take a look at the problem without just slinging hate at Game Freak and calling them lazy. The quality issues of this game are a symptom of a bigger problem with Pokemon as a brand and I'm just hoping this is finally the straw that gets them to address it.
I was once a defender of Sword/Shield. I saw all the problems but was in the mindset of "they need more time to adapt to the switch". The remakes of pearl/diamond made me loose more fsith, Legends arceus gave me some hope again, and now this was the final straw. I will not continue to play pokemon anymore. Its just not possible to defend the biggest franchise of the world anymore. I just want fun games with well looking fights and a post game. But no, better sell dlc and cut half the pokemon. Im done Pokemon Company
@@matthewbraith0411 thinking about post game from Sword/Shield was usually the same rhing i did in all other pokemon games. - Hunt pokemon you want - breed it with a 5-6 iv ditto. - take eggs and run in circles - get max iv pokemon baby - breed baby with ditto - take eggs and run in circles - get shiny max iv pokemon baby Repeat this for all pokemon + all pokemon with hidden ability. And now it gets this 3rd type thing, in which you get more pokemon to breed. Cant i have a convenience thing, like a soup that gives my pokemon its 3rd form, instead of doing in once per pokemon? Breeding is pain. Make it something that needs skill. Like battleing till lvl 100 and adding a challenge run with 50 battles solo only with your pokemon you wanna iv and shiny. Every battle adds iv bonus and last battle win gives you shiny? Would make it about skill, strengthen your bond with the pokemon and actually understand how to use it, instead of running in a circle for 8 hours straight.
Ay yes because when the graphics bad = you cant have fun with them. But I bet you got your Platinum and Emerald games which where like 90% like the normal games but cost you 40-50 dollars but when they do new Dlc for 30 dollars thats unforgiveable and they litterly didnt cut that stuff they released it a year after SwSh release they fcking devolped the dlcs after the game release 😂
@@KingDarkness100 have not once spoken about the graphics. But yes, those are abysmal for the buggest franchise of the world. Do you wanna tell me they developed DLC1 in around 4-5 months? With the ideas and plans for dlc2 as well? And to make it count, please, LISTEN TO ME I DONT WANNA REPEAT MYSELF. *ahem* Looking bad is not the graphics, but the quality. Lifeless 3d models with bad coloring on a lifeless engine that has no real style for its own. And bad graphics is nothing if gameplay was good. But the gameplay is the same since the first pokemon. Adding 1 new gimmick move does not change the overall gameplay. The only new thing in the new game is the "open world" which is still not reviewed how "open" it really is.
To add to the chaos imma let you in on this..........As a unity user, that grass texture you see paced on the ground is/has been used in UE and Unity community for quite a while even before game came out.........so they basically dont have a team for creating their own textures which is a massive problem.....imagine going to work and googling free grass textures like indie devs.
I'm back to say, everyone crapping on scarlett and violet right now, I better not see y'all later get the game and then start praising it. That crap is annoying and happens all the time.
You hit the nail on the fucking head. This is what I tell my friends and they still defend it… they have grossed the most money out of any franchise in the world and we get 0 quality from them, because they know people will buy it and that’s the problem. It’s just sad seeing your favorite childhood video game slowly living long enough to become the villain.
Alright so I’ve watched some videos and I’ve learned that the last gen was sword and shield, and that came out 3 years ago and people learned a pattern where a new gen happens every 3 years, psp and pbd were remakes, they had 3 years to develop all 3 of these games which seems reasonable for Pokémon
Buddy Pokemon Arceus is a full fledged game and it looks hideous. Let's be honest Gamefreak needs to stop splitting their teams and work fully on one game for those three years.
@@jellyhamsters6197 the new battle system is heavily unbalanced to the point where some mons can get double digits in turns. So in its current state I’d say battles themselves were a step back. The mons were balanced around the old battle system so changing the battle system without addressing the stats of those mons leaves the game the least balanced of them except maybe gen 1. It’s kinda like how 3d has higher potential then sprites but X and y’s jump to 3d was a step back because of inexperience with it. They gotta rebalance all the mons around the battle system if they wanna change it. 80 or 90 should be like the minimum for base speed.
There is a VERY VERY simple solution: stop buying every goddamn game!!! Everyone who bitched about sword and shield bought it anyways, and just continued Game Freak's cycle of giving the same amount of shits as an inconinent dinosaur. Stop buying the games and we might actually see a change in them.
i stay with my principes. as long as the pokemon games don't give me that WOW feel from the trailer i won't buy them. botw gave me wow feels i bought it
Sadly pokemon is really big and marketable. And kids love em too. So I don't think there's gonna be any time (at least soon) when pokemon stops printing some dough.
honestly Nintendo needs to stop putting out outdated hardware like look at the steam deck. its part of the problem even though botw did not look this bad it does run like shit in some areas.
The thing is, even though the graphics were never the priority, I think the games look so bad because of a lack of experience since most of Gamefreak's games aside from a few exceptions were handheld. GF pretty have to make games with a much bigger scope on home consoles with the same amount of time as the handheld titles. The abrupt switch between handheld and home consoles did a number on them. I'm not saying it looks good or passable or anything. While Scarlet and Violet are a slight improvement, it's nothing to write home about. Also Pokemon has become too big for its own good.
Game Freak and TPCi have officially hit rock bottom this time! They have NO excuse this time! They are BEYOND redemption! They absolutely 100% deserve to bashed and mocked for these indefensible dumpster fires!
Honestly I want them to go back to the old top down style with more cartoony graphics. In exchange I want the size of the world maps to dramatically increase in size with a certain degree of randomization. This will also have the side effect of making the graphics last longer.
Here's what graphics defenders pull up & is any of them convincing to u? - it doesn't look that bad - So what graphics r trash? They arent everything. The gameplay's way more important & thats where most of the GF's focus goes.
A new next gen Pokemon game comes out every 3-4 years. There may be spin offs in-between, but those are usually done either by or with the help of different teams.
Ngl, this is the main reason I cancelled my order. I expect something more vibrant, clean, and breathtaking. But hays... It's not enough for me to be hyped.
In my opinion, I feel that nowadays, Pokemon is trying to spend more time making well, the pokemon more unique. Especially after the hit or miss that was gen 5. Given how were nearing 1000 pokemon, many are bound to being forgotten. So, pokemon's been trying to instead make the mon's more memorable, in a sense. I mainly see this in Galar. From the goofy (Dracovish), to the cute (wooloo), and even the badass (obstagoon), nearly every mon is memorable in thier own way.
Pokemon games should play sometjing similiar action/fighting game how are poeple not tired of clicking A and walking on a D pad how is that even a game it barely qualifies to me 😅🤣
After the utter garbage storm that is Gen 8 (SWSH, BDSP, and LA), there is literally ZERO chance Scarlet and Violet will be good! Face it, the Pokemon franchise is a lost cause and y'all are living in denial!
That water tiling bullshit could be easily fixed. FFS there are youtube tutorials showing how to overlay textures with noise and shade to counteract that tiling effect!
Used to love this franchise, but it's clear they care more about their bottom line than releasing a quality game nowadays. It's completely lost its magic
I honestly think the LA is better with graphics, SC and VO just make it obvious to have bad graphics. But LA covers it up with good shading (they gotta fix that water thought)
The games look bad solely because for one there is way too much contrast for a game that doesnt have any actual fast paced combat. (Also the lighting is shit and the foliage is too spaced apart)
I think the people who defend this are just bathing in their nostalgia and accept anything that has the name Pokemon on it. They really should take a look at contemporary games. But nah.
In the end, the Fans are what hold the franchise back. They're os desperate to play a new pokemon game, and they're so desperate for it to be good. that they would rather convince themselves it's great, then call the company out on the garbage. that it's been releasing. The game not only looks terrible, it plays terrible, no voice overs, and the world is so empty, bland. It's almost as if the game was made in a few months to a year. hah, would you look at that! it was. Another terrible game, they are just treating pokemon fans like EA does sport fans. As pure numbers. They've started releasing these games quickly cause they know people will buy them, and they'll make an absurd amount.
This. This is it. Fans are why we got BDSP in the condition it was in. Because ORAS was too derivative for them, Game Freak knew that the fans would want something super faithful, right? I’d expect this decade to be Pokémon’s equivalent to Sonic’s ‘Meta Era’. Get ready for more pandering to previous gens.
You guys just love to complain thats the difference many fans can just have fun with the games instead of crying about it every fucking year haha The Pokemon Company doesnt give a damn about you guys they do this games for childrens not for some weird 30 year old neckbeards crying 24/7 on raddit about how bad the graphics look

Just because you're ignorant, doesn't mean everyone else has to be too. You can continue to thin everything is fine like a child. Leave the other stuff to us adults.
Yeah, the graphics are sub-par, the gameplay is formulaic, the story is nigh identical between every mainline game, and it'd be great for the people who play these games if Gamefreak would put in the time, effort and resources to fix these issues. But the fact of the matter is that Gamefreak has no incentive to fix these issues, now or ever. Pokémon, as the biggest multimedia franchise on Earth, is simply too big to fail; the games will sell, the TCG will be played, the anime will be watched and the merchandise (the biggest source of revenue) will be in demand.
I usually care about graphics, and do not like old games because of bad graphics. Yet, I enjoy playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Here is a thing: I really enjoyed Sun and Moon. It now makes my eyes hurt trying to play it, looking at the tiny screen of the 3DS, and I can compare how big difference there is between Sun and Moon and Scarlet and Violet. The world looks much better than in that, and besides, there is too much good here to pass up on just coz the graphics are not like Legend of Zelda's. I really like how the Pokemon models, and the player and other character models look like, and how the story is and how much relaxing fun the exploration is, and how nice it is to have not just GYM battles but also other "paths" as the game calls it... Maybe I am stupid, but for me it was worth the money...
I just had to stop caring about pokemon. The people that have complaints about the game do seem to be the minority. The games still sell well and there is no shortage of people that will defend the game. As much as I've enjoyed pokemon over the years, it is just no longer something I'm interested in anymore. I care a lot about a game's quality. The games they release stick out like sore thumbs against the competition and it is no excuse for a franchise as big as theirs. For me, there is no excuse for it, I've become completely disinterested in the franchise, and I refuse to support it. Maybe one day it will get better, who knows. You can only hold onto hope for so long. It's a vicious cycle with pokemon. They repeat the same mistakes and both the fans and the critics just end up saying the same thing. One side is oblivious to any of its flaws, think they're the second coming of Christ, and the other side repeats the same things every year. The "fanboys" as I like to call them, are the worst part. You can enjoy subpar quality, that's fine, but how can you turn a blind eye to objectively bad game design choices/flaws. The issues with their games are blatantly obvious. It feels like I'm being trolled by both the pokemon company and its mindless fanbase. I have nothing against people who enjoy these games. If you enjoy them, more power to you. I think it's good that at least someone gets some fun out of them somehow. The thing I dislike is when fans of the game can't even acknowledge basic flaws and become a white knight for the pokemon company, denying every flaw and deflecting every criticism. They'll go as far as to make excuses for them and tell you your expectations of having a well put together game are wrong. If you enjoy the games, great, if you don't see the flaws ok, not being able to identify them is one thing but telling people to expect less than what every other game studio of the generation is producing is just idiotic, especially one with as much money as the pokemon company. After a while, you wonder if these people even have eyes. Like, maybe they're seeing and playing a completely different game. How can you even properly identify and appreciate good game design when you can't spot a turd that's right in front of your face? My only guess is that the majority of people playing and buying pokemon nowadays, while high in number, are low in IQ. There are a lot of stupid people in the world, much more than I ever thought there were. Given the amount of fan boys and units sold, we must just have a bunch of clueless, brain-dead drooling toddlers on our hands; which is actually the pokemon company's target audience now.
Lol and the games are out and all the blind Pokemon stand got the buggy mess we all saw coming. It's frustrating GF still gets defended when every game gets worse.
When it comes to games and their graphics, I feel like I'm one of the only living, breathing, human beings in the entire world who just.. DOES. NOT. CARE. I'll wait for more trailers and stuff, but for now, I'm buying the game regardless of how it looks. Change my mind.
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." . . So no..i am not gonna try and change your mind :)
I care more about fun than anything else with a game. I still play ps1 games despite majority of them looking like crap now adays because they're fun. Legend of dragoon is legit one of my favorite games of all time.
THANK YOU. i play all kinds of different graphics games from terraria to apex legends IT DOES NOT MATTER and if that’s all that matters to you, then i don’t want to talk to you
Is there any other company that is under nintendo that could take over the development of pokemon games? Maybe Monolit Soft or Intelligent Systems. Since gamefreak stated that pokemon is not a priority but Town is (a game with nothing special in my opinion).
I don't trust the phrase "We have a lot of studios working on this". I feel like everyone thinks it means "All hands on deck" when it's "We have no leadership" in reality. Just remember both Fallout 76 and Battlefield 2042 had all hands on deck
I even theorized that during the development of Arcues, Violet was being made and I hope they add Arcues elements that make Pokémon fun and more interactive something like the anime
It’s been literally decades and Pokémon still doesn’t have voice acting like it’s unnerving. The only voice we got was in the dark type gym in black and white. :/
Radical Soda: Why are people defending the games? Because it’s free?(talking about Pokémon Unite) Course not? (Baby voice) it’s because it’s Pokemon. Everyone loves Pokémon
People who say “just enjoy the gameplay ” don’t seem to understand what exactly that means. Fallout: New Vegas is an example of gameplay over graphics, the graphics are incredibly dated by today’s standards, but it’s excuse? It’s 10 years old, and was released on the Xbox 360, the engine it runs on is older than most kids alive today. Pokemon scarlet and violet was made in 2022 on the switch, and the graphics still look terrible? I’m sure s/v will be good games, but they have no excuse for the poor quality graphics.
Gamefreaks progression and ambition for making quality games throughout the decades is the most lethargic thing I can think of. I haven't played a pokemon game since like 2006 and it's only because they literally haven't even come close to giving me a reason to. It's sad to see such a waste of potential.

Since when has recent pokemon gameplay been good? I still play gen 3-4 because the gameplay and features in the older games are much better. In fact, rom hacks are even better than modern pokemon games. So, I ain't playing modern pokemon. Haven't played a pokemon past gen 5.
Alot of things i hear from this video are just Assumptions and depends who you ask.. game still doesn't release till November and nobody knows how development is going, Debut trailers don't tell you much till more come out, BUT as the end of the day, Graphics can only get you so far if the gameplay isn't good..some people just say "Gameplay>Graphics" long as they have a good experience there's nothing wrong with that~

Merch makes 5x the games. I've kind of just accepted pokemon as a franchise will always be more focused on cultural relevance than making a memorable product
I already drew my line about Pokémon back with Sword and Shield with the national dex and the graphics. BDSP where a joke to me with the chibi graphics, and the original games still look better to me. Legends Arceus is the only Pokémon game I've really had fun with since X and Y (I haven't played New Snap yet) and that's in spite of its faults because an open world Pokémon game with new mechanics is really fun for me. I'm definitely not buying Scarlet or Violet unless they show massive improvements before release, or delay the release. Something I saw that made me a bit sad was people needing to discuss which Pokémon will return, when that was never even an issue before.
if you didnt have fun with pokemon since XY until the release of PLA you most certainly wouldve dropped the franchise, seeing the there was a 9 year release date difference. its either that or you have so much optimism that even though the only game youve had fun with in a franchise was released 9 years ago, you still have hope with every game, which is not believable
it's been something that I've worried about as well. they should take longer period of time to polish these games. Legends Arceus was a great change up from the series, but they still had really bad graphics. this saddens me honestly, and i really hope that there is an increase in time between games. no need for a realistic game ! we just just a game where it looks polished, not something rushed. :l
I respect your opinion, however, i whole heartedly disagree, pokémon shouldn't be about graphics, just like you said, and i agree with you on that, the thing is, there's something that we need in order to actually wait these games out: PATIENCE And by lord, we don't have patience, but that doesn't mean being impacient is a bad thing, au contraire, it's actually kinda good in some scenarios, like adrenaline rushes, etc... but impatience ain't the point here, what i'm saying is, in my opinion, the bad graphics LOOK GOOD! Let me explain, it just gives me that sort of ''old school graphics that still look better than Skyrim aesthetically'' sort of vibe. ( And for those saying: ''iTS jUSt yOUR oPINIoN, yOU'Re wRONG'', i may be wrong, but i'm rightly wrong, as little sense as that makes, and i also respect your opinions on Scarlet and Violet) but let's stop the PokéPolitics and get scarlet and violet when it comes out, because I WANT MY SPRIGATITO DANG IT!
well waiting is good. Maybe we should wait longer so they could do it from scrap. Like I know one game series that pushes their title back and back to be good. Zelda botw 2
As someone who just started playing xenoblade chronicles on switch… yeah. I’m still looking forward to these games from a gameplay level, but the graphics are unimpressive. Especially the pan in shot where you can see all the meh at best textures.
Lol I posted on the UK Nintendo channel (because the comments where turned off on the American channel) that the graphics look like a mobile phone game. I said if I were to compromise graphics in 2022, I’d just go play Soul Silver. … … The comments were turned off the next day. Weird

Yes look at genshin impact for example...
Maybe that’s because the Nintendo Switch came out in 2017, but all the new mobile phones came out after.
Blows my mind that some people will say “graphics don’t matter I care about gameplay and story” but are referring to games that have been the exact same gameplay and story for two decades.
Pokemon has finally reached the point where at least to me they have no selling points anymore, everything is the same as the last game, with a new slab of land that is getting more and more poorly modeled every game, new pokemon and probably a new gimmick on the lines of "Mon does big overpowered thing that breaks the game, and the fan favourites get their exclusive version of big overpowered thing"
All of which I can just watch footage of because I ain't loosing anything in the gameplay department given that the newer games can be beat by just spamclicking A til the credits roll
Pokemon sword and shield literally had a clone of a dude from Sun and Moon
@@An_Entire_Lime there’s a new gimmick in every game and each of them add plenty of stuff to be different from others
Personally i agree with the “graphics are less important, gameplay is super important” sentiment but… Pokémon is definitely NOT my first thought when it comes to games like that 😬
@@TheLadKC ironic how you're talking about the gimmicks and "being different from others"
When in that comment you replied to that I guess you didn't read or something I literally said how all 3 gimmicks so far are just variations of "pokemon plays animation then hits hard", and how it doesn't add anything to gameplay because said gameplay involves just clicking the same move 20473 billion times, hell it makes it worse by making your same move stronger as if that wasn't easy enough
@@DR--- I didn't say you can't like games with crappy graphics. I'm just saying that its a good idea for developers to not push graphics to the side.

I honestly don't think the 3 year gap between main releases is enough anymore
its not a 3 year gap between mail line games, its a 3 year gap between generations. its a 1 year gap between main line games, of course an extra 2 years would be enough, given they had the time
I think the style of pokken tournament could look good on a new, traditional pokemon game. Especially the move animations since, ya know, the pokemon do more then hover towards their opponents.
Yeah, Blastoise could finally stop firing Hydro Pumps out of its fuckin forehead.
Mainline games could learn a lot from the spin-offs
and we'd have to wait a decade for it to be done and then even longer to have a cartridge it'd fit on, pokken tournament gets away with it's fancy as fuck looks because you could almost fit the entire roster on one big bus

@@aurum3747 There's been speculation of the longer length of development, which is a pretty plausible theory. Hear me out, in Gen 7, there were a minuscule amount of Spanish references and hints. They need more time, staff and budget. Gamefreak isn't full of incompetent idiots, it's a hyper competent studio working with less time and resources than the average COD game.

@@VictoryReviews Sure, but gameplay wise it puts every single main series game to shame.
@@Lechgang yeah with its introduction to agile and strong styles, and being able to catch Pokémon without having to fight the Pokémon
Stop buying the games and we might actually see a change in them.
i stay with my principes. as long as the pokemon games don't give me that WOW feel from the trailer i won't buy them. botw gave me wow feels i bought it
Who said that people who complain buy It ? You know that the the complainers are a minority. right ?
Sadly pokemon is really big and marketable. And kids love em too. So I don't think there's gonna be any time (at least soon) when pokemon stops printing some dough.
idk what this game is or anything, but it looks like an unfinished Roblox game from 2018
honestly Nintendo needs to stop putting out outdated hardware like look at the steam deck. its part of the problem even though botw did not look this bad it does run like shit in some areas.
That's their problem to handle, not the consumer's, if you have an incompetent studio hire a competent one to help with development.
@@Meteorsmash2024 they also have the all the resources in the world to do it but chooses not to

TPCi is at fault. I guarantee that Game Freak is just a studio trying to hold it all together.
@@Call_Me_Sparda well you are wrong tpc has no power. It was made from nintendo creatures inc. And gamefreak
Honestly I want them to go back to the old top down style with more cartoony graphics. In exchange I want the size of the world maps to dramatically increase in size with a certain degree of randomization. This will also have the side effect of making the graphics last longer.
It doesn’t make since making Pokémon look bad because the switch is more than capable for good looking games like BoTW, Dread, and MHR
5:30 what game is that? it looks gorgeous!
Bruh how relevant is this video now that the trash has come out !! God damn pokemon grew poorly..
I just can't get over how people are defending this trash, they are just in denile.
Here's what graphics defenders pull up & is any of them convincing to u?
- it doesn't look that bad
- So what graphics r trash? They arent everything. The gameplay's way more important & thats where most of the GF's focus goes.
A new next gen Pokemon game comes out every 3-4 years. There may be spin offs in-between, but those are usually done either by or with the help of different teams.
I wouldn't even care about the graphics if the animations weren't so lifeless
Pokemon Stadium: Hello there
“Just enjoy the game” ok but for once can you make battles that are not only pressing A and add a difficultly at the very least.
Pokémon has much potential but it’s undermined by Gamefreak’s mediocrity. And Pokémon fans are so delusional
2:10 game name?
Bandai animators>Gamefreak
Exhibit A: Pokemon Tournament DX
I end my case.
Legends Arceus was fun though.

That water tiling bullshit could be easily fixed. FFS there are youtube tutorials showing how to overlay textures with noise and shade to counteract that tiling effect!
It was so hard to play this game
Used to love this franchise, but it's clear they care more about their bottom line than releasing a quality game nowadays. It's completely lost its magic
I honestly think the LA is better with graphics, SC and VO just make it obvious to have bad graphics. But LA covers it up with good shading (they gotta fix that water thought)
“bro this game sucks”
>buys it anyways and spends days playing it
Piracy is my party.
The games look bad solely because for one there is way too much contrast for a game that doesnt have any actual fast paced combat. (Also the lighting is shit and the foliage is too spaced apart)
Oh yeah and the game has like the same poly count as a freakin game cube game, and all the grass looks weird and flat and ugly.
I think the people who defend this are just bathing in their nostalgia and accept anything that has the name Pokemon on it. They really should take a look at contemporary games. But nah.
👏
Nope this people just play the games and have fun with them instead of crying 24/7 on raddit about bad graphics

In the end, the Fans are what hold the franchise back.
They're os desperate to play a new pokemon game, and they're
so desperate for it to be good. that they would rather convince themselves it's great, then call the company out on the garbage.
that it's been releasing.
You guys just love to complain thats the difference many fans can just have fun with the games instead of crying about it every fucking year haha
The Pokemon Company doesnt give a damn about you guys they do this games for childrens not for some weird 30 year old neckbeards crying 24/7 on raddit about how bad the graphics look

And this is what you're getting. Is it going to be fun? Probably yeah. Is it even 20% as good as Pokémon should be? no it's not.
You should be thanking people like me. It's due to people like us that Pokémon games have evolved at all. You're welcome.
Make no mistake, your complacency confuses you with a sense of being correct, but you're not.

what? You are either preciously ignorant and just don't know nor have you researched the actual statistics on pokemon games and the majority of players. Or you just choose to be that way to further your delusion of superiority.
The majority of players are not children, it's actually adults. Surprise.

It’s very obvious you didn’t even attempt to play Legends Arceus if you think the gameplay is formulaic and Gamefreak has no incentive to fix issues.
How dare you insult gamecube graphics
none of the employees are getting enough food and sleep at gamefreak at this rate
When I realised I wasn't subscribed I smashed that subscribe button
Lol and the games are out and all the blind Pokemon stand got the buggy mess we all saw coming. It's frustrating GF still gets defended when every game gets worse.

Is there any other company that is under nintendo that could take over the development of pokemon games? Maybe Monolit Soft or Intelligent Systems. Since gamefreak stated that pokemon is not a priority but Town is (a game with nothing special in my opinion).
The roblox game "Loomian Legacy" has better graphics than most Pokemon games. It's also based off of Pokemon.

I don't trust the phrase "We have a lot of studios working on this". I feel like everyone thinks it means "All hands on deck" when it's "We have no leadership" in reality. Just remember both Fallout 76 and Battlefield 2042 had all hands on deck
The real meaning of the phrase may as well be "We're outsourcing this stuff to underpaid interns in Indonesia." It effectively means nothing
I even theorized that during the development of Arcues, Violet was being made and I hope they add Arcues elements that make Pokémon fun and more interactive something like the anime

Pokémon has been a yearly franchise since let’s go
We could go even further back and say since the start of gen 7.
It's sad how these idiots forgot #DexIt and now embrace it

if you didnt have fun with pokemon since XY until the release of PLA you most certainly wouldve dropped the franchise, seeing the there was a 9 year release date difference. its either that or you have so much optimism that even though the only game youve had fun with in a franchise was released 9 years ago, you still have hope with every game, which is not believable
it's been something that I've worried about as well.
they should take longer period of time to polish these games. Legends Arceus was a great change up from the series, but they still had really bad graphics. this saddens me honestly, and i really hope that there is an increase in time between games.
no need for a realistic game !
we just just a game where it looks polished, not something rushed. :l
well we should vote with the wallet
I respect your opinion, however, i whole heartedly disagree, pokémon shouldn't be about graphics, just like you said, and i agree with you on that, the thing is, there's something that we need in order to actually wait these games out: PATIENCE
And by lord, we don't have patience, but that doesn't mean being impacient is a bad thing, au contraire, it's actually kinda good in some scenarios, like adrenaline rushes, etc...
but impatience ain't the point here, what i'm saying is, in my opinion, the bad graphics LOOK GOOD!
Let me explain, it just gives me that sort of ''old school graphics that still look better than Skyrim aesthetically'' sort of vibe. ( And for those saying: ''iTS jUSt yOUR oPINIoN, yOU'Re wRONG'', i may be wrong, but i'm rightly wrong, as little sense as that makes, and i also respect your opinions on Scarlet and Violet)
but let's stop the PokéPolitics and get scarlet and violet when it comes out, because I WANT MY SPRIGATITO DANG IT!
well waiting is good. Maybe we should wait longer so they could do it from scrap. Like I know one game series that pushes their title back and back to be good. Zelda botw 2
