I would DEFINITELY want to buy a house like this and restore it to its original look. There is NO WAY we would EVER find great homes like this again!!!! These homes have so much character!!!! There's a story in these walls!!!! Thank you for being brave enough to show them to us!!!

That’s what I’m saying, as well. People 1. Demolish old homes, or 2. Want to renovate them to look new…

Canadians really respect abandoned homes, that doesn’t happen over here in the US. I’ve seen other explorer videos and some of the things people do to abandoned US homes is really sad.

It is totally amazing to me ,likewise, how respectful the Canadians are to other individual’s property, etc. It is disgusting, very embarrassing & sad to compare the US to them in that way. The way people destroy abandoned properties here in the US just infuriates me!🤨

Ethan has quite a few videos where some lowlife(s) have demolished and/or graffitied the inside of beautiful homes. Stealing the copper pipes, the light fixtures, you name it. It's not just in the U.S.

Forgot to mention the growing of plants in the foyer under the stairs was called an atrium. A symbol of wealth. The wealthy also often had indoor fountains. Humidity could keep the plants alive when the people ignored them. The leaves were kept shiny with mayonnaise once or twice a month. Again it helped with oxygen levels.

I absolutely love this house! There’s not much I would change. As much as I love the windows by the staircase, I would have to have some kind of window coverings simply because I’d get sketched out at night and I’d hate for my neighbors to see me wandering down the stairs half dressed or even less! Lol!! This is at the top of my list for favorite houses you have explored, for sure!

That mid century desk/table that was upstairs was insanely beautiful! I respect that you leave the things you find, however, Ethan. I am not sure I could leave that piece behind, knowing it was going to be demolished. Which brings me to my next point- I don't understand when there are so many people that would love to live in these homes, they choose to demolish them? I wish that developers of big subdivisions would develop around these gems, vs. destroy them. Thanks for another great tour, Ethan!

In my opinion the best part of that house is the stairway, the entry is breathtaking. Plus that fire place, the way it curved, never saw anything like that. It’s creepy that they had a lock chain outside that room 😳🤔

The room upstairs with the chain lock outside...that could have been used as an office or craft room with lock to keep out small children when the adults weren't in the room. Little ones love to go where they shouldn't, lol. By the they were old enough to reach the lock they would have been old enough to be unsupervised.

I love this house. It has all the character of the 50's I would ever want. I also love all the planters here and there and the multiple fireplaces. I do, however, need to tell you I was very disappointed the number of times you didn't turn the lights on. It would have been wonderful to let us see the things you were looking at. I couldn't see the items because they were so dark and it really disappointed me. It especially bothered me when I couldn't see the storage room and all the furnishings or the full kitchen. Anyway please, especially when there is lighting, turn on the lights and let us see things. Thank you.

Awesome house once again. I really enjoy watching your videos I guess especially since you have such a connection with the older homes (older as in retro etc). You appreciate the style and 'feel' of the homes because they're all so different and unique. I was a bit surprised that the basement wasn't finished but then again, maybe they had enough square footage to work with that they didn't really care..who knows eh? Adore the front door knocker handle, some of your other video's in my favourites list had those Ethan. That curved fireplace Stunning so cosy and so well built. Can you imagine snow with a roaring fire looking out of those windows. @1:30 that's something I wouldn't have inside the dirt for an inside garden. Lol Adore you Ethan o.c.d @2:28 same as myself. The kitchen I agree Original. @3:04 that tile was beautiful, The Bathroom yucky colour, Turning the lights on changed the whole look of this home, more cosy, Still Don't understand how the power is left on, but I'm so glad we get to see it with lighting. @5:14 Weird Having a planter next to the fireplace poor plants would die. Have never seen a fireplace like that one with a curtain. Still fireplaces make me feel cosy. @5:27 WOW that's stunning the staircase, planter box, beautiful wood, big windows. Was waiting for this Ethan Beautiful. Thank you! @7:17 I Take back what I said about that bathroom it's cute the tiles are so shiny and so clean. @8:22 Creepy, I mean the chain is useless hand through crack of door your out, unless the doorknob had a lock. Just weird. @8:55 another cute original bathroom, silly place for the light switch. @9:42 Ethan that sounded like a pool pump. Imagine the electricity bill if it is. We have our pump going at 2-3am to save power here in Victoria Australia. Hate pools have never used ours, can't swim allergic to the sun and summer. The upkeep of a pool is hard work Ethan and Ethan's subscribers. @12:15 didn't like that room weird bad vibes, don't know why, such a long hall way to get to it. Thank you for closing the drawers Ethan. I was yelling "Ethan please close the Drawers" omg @13:08 you are so adorable Ethan, everytime you say basement, cobwebs I yell "don't go down please Ethan" So glad you didn't. This was a Fantastic Explore adding to my favourites. Sending my kindest thoughts and a big Thank you Ethan. Brilliant! I do hope some thing's are saved like some of those stunning tiles and staircase, they just don't make them like that anymore.

When I was a caregiver I got to see THE coolest houses. One was originally a frat house from the late 1800s, gifted to a professor's family. The widow permitted me to look all around. I was dumbfounded. The kitchen is like 30 by 30 feet since it was designed to feed the whole frat boys. There was a large parlor, and the upstairs rooms were small, yet the hall was immense. All was oak hardwood. The entryway led to a beautiful carved stairway, and a back set of service steps led to the cook, caretaker quarters. I seriously felt like I was touring a museum.

I've recently become addicted to watching your tours, my favorites are the mid century modern homes. It crushes my heart to think about them being demolished. What a horrible waste. So much beautiful wood. Gone. Groovy stuff. Gone.
We have a 68 mod house in Florida, tiny compared to these beauties and I'd love to find some of that old hardware, love to have some of that stuff. We've kept most of it original, a clean one owner home. A builder friend of ours called it " un-molested".

I have never understood why/how people can just walk away from their home. Especially when they leave all/or some of their things.
I really enjoy walking through the homes, thank you for sharing with us.
I totally get having to have the cabinets closed.

The chain on the upstairs door, probably to keep small children from wondering in there unattended.

Yep. My (mid-century) childhood home had those on a few doors, specifically to keep us kids out.

Unfortunately it could have just as easily have been to keep a Senior with Dementia IN. My grandmother and grandfather were really bad to wander at night. It only took once of them getting out of the house and onto the street for a similar set up to be added

I had three children through CPS ( child protective services ) and they told me the home they'd been in previously they'd been locked in their rooms at night . I was so pissed these were children that were 1,2 and 3 years old . The reason given was they'd sneak into bed together. They were brothers and a sister and probably scared after being removed from their home . I can't imagine doing that to small children . They are now 19 , 18 and 17 they still remember that incident and it's affected the oldest probably because he has a real memory of it .

As a child of the 50s, I can tell you the plants & planters were for people who knew oxygen especially near & around fireplaces was essential. The blinds to cover the fireplace in the big room could serve 2 purposes. As a screen for home movies & viewing other films & as a way to make the room appear even larger. Oh course the fireplace would always be cold or not in use when the blinds were closed. (Only an idiot would close the blind when a fire was present.)
The coolest items were the trophy room shelving in an upstairs bedroom, the lazy susan cabinet in the kitchen (I have corner cabinets), & that gorgeous circular fireplace.
But one thing we learned the hard way was flat rooftops don't drain & standing water molds &/or causes leaks. Better a shed roof line, a mansard, gambrel, or pitched roof line so rain can drain of. I tend to agree the style is more California style of the 60s.
The walk through butler pantry was nice, would have liked a better inspection of it, but you kept saying it was musty. Food may not have all been removed when the owner's left.

MCM homes are awesome and my absolute favorites!! Everything from 50s through the 70s I find so cool and intriguing. This was another great property. One thing I can't help but find disturbing is that lock on the outside of that door!

Never saw a curtain in front of a fireplace before--wouldn't that be a fire hazard? Plus, Why would you want to cover up the beautiful fireplace??? This may be my favorite house you've done.

    • @gentillydanny
      @gentillydanny 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I guess the curtain would be to cover it over in warm weather, though why anyone would want to do that is beyond me.

Great house. Does not seem like 1959 house. It looks and feels more like late 60's house. This may not be politically correct to say, but I'm amused by Ethans OCD fixations !

The staircase with all those windows is perfection. They just don't build homes with those fabulous huge windows. Makes me so mad that modern junk will replace these wonderful examples of MCM architecture.
