  • Here I review the new (as of Sept. 2017) Port Askaig 110 Proof Single Malt Scotch Whisky. It is the first bottling of Port Askaig to hit US shelves, and it’s a great one. It retails at $60 and is made up entirely of young Caol Ila (I’m guessing 6-8 years old).
    If you enjoy my reviews and want even more, join me at my LiquorHound Patreon channel (link in the barrel picture on my homepage or / liquorhound . There you'll get an extra 30-40 videos per year, in addition to the 10-12 that I've always done here.
    As of 10-2017, my current bottle count stands at over 2,400 bottles. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for the last two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thank you for watching and sharing in my passion.
    Cheers!

    At a whisky show in London, I had an opportunity to try their 30 year old whisky, it was amazing.
    Great review, 👍

    I just bought a bottle of the 16 which is a vatting of ex-bourbon and sherry. This is a very well made and deliciously sophisticated Islay dram. A light and perfect integration of all the elements. I'll be getting more Port Askaig. Thanks for lighting the touch paper.

    Really glad you reviewed this. I've been meaning to try Port Askaig for a while but it keeps dropping off the radar. I'm not sure which one I'm going to get but I'm going to get one. All the best

    wasn't this a brand exclusively sold at The Whisky Exchange in London?... nice to see it in the US

      The Whisky Exchange is the sister company of the brand, so I'm sure at one point they were the exclusive seller. Cheers!

    Hey LH, good review dude. I've never tried anything by Port Askaig, they're hard to come by here in Australia where I am. Might have to check out some online retailers.

      Nicks has been advertising this one at a good discount... why I thought it worth a try, although I have a low opinion of it compared to most.

    I am a little late to the game here but the ABV if the 110 is actually lower than the ABV OF THE 100. it's because of the meaning of 100 degree proof and 110 (degree should not be in here) proof. Stranger and stranger. I love the 100 degree proof bottle which I can get in Canada for $40 US on sale....

    LH do you have any of the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Premium Bourbon Rocks Glasses?? They are shaped for improved Tasting and Aroma of high end Spirits. I LOVE them!!!! I call them the Glencairn's daddy glass. Its amazing. I hope you can get some and try them for these very rare limited fall 2017 Bourbon and Rye releases coming out everywhere right now. CHEERS!!!!!!

    What’s the biggest surprise you have had this year? (Thing that was great that you weren’t expecting to be great?)

      Hmm, there was a 13 year barrel aged Grappa by Poli, and an Ironroot corn whiskey called “Icarus” that blew me away this year. They both get shown in my upcoming “Best of 2017” video that I’ll be uploading this week. Cheers!

    Have you tried Cleveland whisky?

      To be honest, I tried it when it first came out, and I wasn't impressed. Then last year I tried it again, and it's getting better, but it's still not something I'd spend my money on. Maybe if they keep improving, it might eventually get there. Cheers!

    @LiquorHound would you recommend this for a formal occasion like after hours with the boss and some coworkers? or is this more of an after dinner casual type of drink? i know it's a random question lol

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This could go either way. It's inexpensive enough to pour whenever, but I've found that even long time Scotch enthusiasts enjoy it. Cheers!

    Thx for the review. Have you also tasted some age statements from Port Askaig?
    Btw seems to me that you are in desperate need of more shelf-space ;-)

    • @LiquorHound

      I have and they're great. I even enjoyed the older 100 proof a ton. I do need more space, so send me a new shelving unit! ;-D Cheers!

    The Exchange still on your shelf? Is it off the market?

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's still out there, but I believe their distribution is very small. I haven't had any of their new batches to check if their quality has maintained the high quality level of their initial releases (I hope they have). Cheers!

    so im in a group on Facebook and randomly saw a bottle pictured that I dont think the guy knew what it was, he just thought the price was extreme. It was a bottle of the 16 year old AH Hirsch Reserve sitting on a shelf in a store and I remember you saying on an older video it was your favorite bourbon ever. Would you like me to give you the guys name on Facebook? @liqourhound
