Now I will have to verify if I have the right understanding of my mistakes :P Hopefully I will soon be able to finish my friend's SIG 550 furniture!

    Great video for newbies.
    I am beyond this point myself but I definitely remember the struggle of perfect activation.
    Almost gave up on it but I stuck with it and with help of videos like this one day it just happened and I was dipping.
    Glad I stuck it out

      Activation is the most frustrating part to learn and I definitely remember all the struggles I went through. I threw a lot of parts across the shop in anger and frustration. Just takes practice and I am glad you were able to figure it out. Thanks for checking out the video.

      You should make your own activator mate. It's just xylene and thinner. 70/30 mix. People are making this and calling it activator. placing it in blank jugs and putting their own label and a 50 dollar price tag on it. Notice that none of them put the ingredients on the jug? So if I was to order enough stuff to do a large gun stock like you had how much hydro film would I need and what else would I need? And how much is all this costs? Also what temperature should your dip water be?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Price depends on what film you buy and where you buy it from. I always order a minimum of 3 meters for all projects so I know I have enough for re-dos if needed. 90-92 degrees at the surface of the water... we just did a video on water temps if you want to check it out.

    So I have a question if you could help. I print my own designs on hydro film. And alot of the time the picture spreads too much and doesn't come back to original size when in water and after adding activator. Also is their a way I have to prep what I'm dipping. For example I'm trying to make my own design on my ps5 controller but when I dip the color sometimes slides off like it's running and not sticking to the surface it especially comes off when I'm trying to rinse off what's left over of the film. Please help I hate wasting so much time and money. Thank you

    Question :....When dipping a "taped off project" ...for example taping of a gas tank or fenders ect . for flames , and only wanting the pattern to appear in the flame , Do you have to score around the masking tape before removing to prevent damage to the area intended for the pattern ?

    Hello, I am new to hydro dip film and was wondering how do you figure out which side of the film you should lay touching the water and which side faces away from the water?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thats easy.. lick your finger and stick it on the film... which ever side sticks to your finger, thats the side that goes on the water. I know it sounds crazy but it is the easiest method and I do it every time I cut a piece of film. Just becomes habit after a while.

    Today was my first attempt at this art. I dipped a wooden skate board blank. It came out pretty good. A few small imperfections but overall I was tickled to death. I rinsed it off for what seemed like forever then pat it dry. About an hour after that, I applied Rusto Oleum Acrylic Enamel clear over it. About 30 mins later the entire board was a mess. The Clear cost reacted with something and caused the print to crack and blister up. Any Suggestions?

      Best tip ever.... stop using a paints that are not designed for hydro dipping. Switch to OHW or a hydro dipping paint and clear and those issues will go away.

    Hey do I have to spray the object with water to clean the film off right after I dip it or should I let it dry before I have to clean it. I’m asking because I just dipped a p90 body and while I’m rinsing it I’m seeing it come off however it’s not bad and I quit rinsing so I guess my question is what the fuck do I do?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it needs to be rinsed right after you dipped. If the sip is coming off when rinsing then you messed something up: either didn't use the right paint, waiting too long after painting and the paint is now cured, or you didn't activate right.

    Hi! Great series of tips! I have a question: can hydrodipping be done on a textured surface? I have a plastic engine cover I'd like to do, but it has a textured finish that would be difficult to sand smooth.

    • @shawnbillingsley1688
      @shawnbillingsley1688 ปีที่แล้ว

      The texture will mute the detail of the film. It will work but look “fuzzy”

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not do the spray paint dipping so I am not an expert in that area. I know that the people who use the spray paint do not use activator they just spray the paint on top of the water.

    I’m having issues where my film is wrinkling, not when placed or activated but around the item I am dipping during the dip, then drying with raised creases or ripples on the item. Any idea what is causing this or how to fix it?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the film in wrinkling as your dipping then you either have bad film or you are not activated enough. Film can go bad if it is not stored properly. It needs 40-50% humidity and 70 degrees.

      Scuff, paint, dip. It will be fine but it has to be painted so it will cover your epoxy. The dip wont stick without paint.

      I do not make films, I buy them from companies already printed. Good luck finding out how to do it yourself, from what I hear it is insanely expensive and the companies that print it do not give up the info on how they do it. Not worth the headache or expense in my opinion.
