  • Ten years since the start of the war and things in Syria have never been worse.
    Millions have been internally displaced or have sought refuge in neighbouring countries. Cities and historic sites lie in ruins.
    So who’s still fighting who in Syria? Can its people ever return home? And is there an end in sight?

    “The level of humanitarian suffering in Syria is just beyond imagination.” I’m Syrian, i was 9 when the Arab Spring started.. I remember watching the news with my family and following all the updates, I remember my father recording Hosni Mubarak's resignation statement live from the TV, and the breaking news about Mu'ammar Al-Qadhdhāfī’s assassination, we had high hopes as a family who was involved in politics and never liked the government in Syria, and I thought that what was starting to happen in Syria was going to end the same ways that in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya were ended.. but it didn’t, it actually didn’t end at all.. after the March of 2011 nothing was like before, even the air smell changed.. all we saw back then was nations getting liberated, little did we know that the future wasn't going to hold the same high hopes as it did back then.. now i’m 19 in diaspora, missing my father and my family, praying for my Syria and the rest of world..

    • @sox-b9999
      @sox-b9999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      But sadly, Egypt and Libya turned worse than before. El Sisi is as horrible as Asad. I feel like the only solution to this fuckery is that we do a united Arab revolution from Iraq to Mauritania and make a united strong nation. Because that way, it would be very hard to destroy it (internally or externally). The road to achieve that is very long, but not impossible.

      @@LeOssiTrollterrible Thank you very much for your interest in the Syrian issue.. This really means a lot to me.. I will try to leave a comment from time to time explaining my point of view and perhaps also things I witnessed during the war in Syria.. I hope that these things are enough to give you the tip of the thread to understand the Syrian issue Which is simple and complex at the same time.
      After I left Syria with my family, we resorted to one of the neighboring countries. After that I lived in a state of denial. I no longer followed the news or anything related to the war. I did not search on social media about Syria or Syrian news because, as a child of eleven, I wanted to start over. I wanted to start An aesthetic, orderly, and harmonious life far from the war and all its memories.. but although I stayed away from the war, the war did not stay away from me, not for a single day.
      I still remember the first time I read that the war in Syria has become called (the civil war in Syria) and is no longer a (revolution) a revolution for which a thousand died, a revolution defending the freedom of a nation.. The word civil war provoked me very much, especially since the Syrians did not once say that it was A civil war, even with their different points of view and loyalties.. The war in Syria was a war on a people. The number of civilians who stood with the regime of Bashar al-Assad, with the exception of the army or the intelligence services, were not compared to the number of half the Syrians, not even a quarter of them, and for this reason many governments entered to support that fallen regime Even if it does not appear in this way, like the Russian and Iranian governments and a number of others, if it was really a civil war? What are the Russian forces doing on our land? Why not let the Syrians wrestle each other? The civil war is a big lie.
      What happened in the United States during the last elections is a clear example of the difference in viewpoints between one people and the problems caused by those differences and intellectual fanaticism, but what happened in the United States and what happened thousands of times in many countries around the world, no one can call it a civil war! ..
      Syria also has many sects and races that have lived together for thousands of years, even before there was such a thing as governments, democracy and politics.. They lived together with their differences, with their intellectual fanaticism, and with their problems.. They lived as Syrians in a beautiful Syria.. Through thousands of years it did not develop The problems and differences of this simple people, to something like the Syrian war now..
      And as i once read
      ”Until today, the ongoing war cannot be viewed as a war between two parties equal in strength or organization. It is a war between a dictatorial regime that hijacked the state and a segment of the people that sees its interests with it on the one hand, and a large group of the Syrian people.”
      Also
      ”The media uses the term "civil war" to describe what is happening in Syria, while Western media often work to shed light on the actions of extremists operating under the cloak of the so-called "State of Iraq and the Levant" in particular.
      This left the impression on many observers - especially in Western countries - that there is an opposition that includes extremists and is fighting for power with the government, and therefore both parties are equally bad, or at best: there is a civil war between two parties, and therefore ((((let them solve their problems away from us.)))”
      and here the problem lies precisely in that sentence. When they chose to use the term “civil war” in the Syrian war, they were in another way evading their responsibility to stop the bloodshed of innocent Syrians, as they were turning a blind eye or finding every reason, which in my opinion is not rational, to normalize the military interventions that took place in Syria and were without a doubt all against this oppressed people and their interests, and did not support them not even for once..
      In the coming days I try to leave a comment explaining to you how the war was from the point of view of a Syrian child of nine and ten watching it from the balcony of his Damascene house.. How was that war simply away from all the nonsense of politicians who did not witness that war, so calling the word civil war was simple and easy on them..

    I wonder if those who participated in the Arab Spring in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Syria could go back in would they protest again? Would they "fight" to bring down their country's dictators in a hope of replacing their leadership with some folly notion of replacing them with "western-style democracy." Would they realize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that bringing down a king is far easier than ruling a kingdom. I remember I was an 18-year-old freshman in Boston when the Arab spring started and I knew then despite the widespread media and western political support for the protests that what the Arab people were doing was foolish. It was not because I supported Ghadaffi, Mubarak, or Assad but because the protesters were disillusioned by the idea of wanting to replace the current system they had with what they thought was western-style democracy not realizing that that form of government applies to the West for a reason and it was barely working out for us here. Not to mention when the Arab spring began the war in Iraq was well into a decade and was no closer to achieving democratic status than when Sadam was in power so why did they think it would work out for them? Democracy is nice in theory but extremely hard and fragile in reality. Look at what happened in the past US elections, and previous ones before that. You can win the popular vote and still not be president because of the electoral college. In the UK the queen is the head of state and but the country is supposedly a democracy because they have a prime minister, but the queen can dissolve parliament, but what??? A decade later nothing has proven me wrong that the Arab spring was an extremely foolish and chaotic idea on the Arab people's part and that once again they allowed the west to seep into their society to divide and conquer. They should have found another way than ripping themselves apart and forgotten their own saying Arab Bedouin saying: I, against my brothers. I and my brothers against my cousins. I and my brothers and my cousins against the world.
