    Thank You 💕 so much for this. I have 2 Scottish Terriers I take with me backpacking. I really like the Whild River one with the new down liner they are selling. I'm going to get that and probably the Nunatek system for my older Scottie, as he needs a bit more padding on the bottom than my younger Scottie. Awesome Video ❤😊

    Thank you from the bottom of my dog lovin heart! Just started backpacking with my two dogs and hiking dog info videos are hard to find (with good info). I appreciate the detail you provide, so much. I bought a human fold up sleeping pad for my dogs to share and a cheap walmart sleeping bag as a short term solution. It worked fine but that walmart sleeping bag is so bulky, not water resistant and not fun to carry. I think I'm going to give Whyld River a try! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us dog lovers!

      Just purchased the Companion Dog Quilt from UGQ. It’s similar to a top quilt people would use but is dog sized. It’s made of down and weighs less than 15oz - also get to choose your colors.. Can’t wait to get it and try it out! Will have to see how the 20D inner/outer fabric holds up. Always nice to support our cottage manufacturers…

    Great video! I don’t camp with a dog, but after watching the comparisons, I want to go out and buy a Whyld River sleeping bag. The woman who designed it put a lot of thought into the design. (I believe you mentioned it is a woman designer.) You’ll need to do a follow up later this year to see how the tabs, as well as the bag in general, held up. I think it would be fun to see a video clip of Remy getting into the bag.

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures

      Yes, Whyld River has a female founder, Rachel Bauman. Just a side note, the little naughty puppy chewed off one of the toggles when I had the bed outside of the kennel right after shooting this video.

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh interesting find! I was wondering why I had never heard of them, but looks like they are Norwegian company. I might order one to get a look at it! Based on the design, it looks like it would be large enough for Remy and the zipper does open up the bag all the way so he could climb in. The biggest issue I have is the top part of the bag has to be bigger than the bottom to allow for his girth. The large size looks to be almost 2lbs so might not be quite practical for backpacking but definitely good for car camping.

    • @TieWolf
      @TieWolf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GIRLplusDOGAdventures the company offers really great gear! If you plan any winter backpacking, I'd put faith in them if it fit what you needed.

    Thank you for taking time to make and share this information. I do winter back packing with
    my sixty pound German Wirehair. Which bag is warmer: Ruffwear or Wild River?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Donny- so I think both bags will be comparable because they have similar synthetic fill. However, the Whyld River should be easier to tuck your dog in because if the modular construction of the bed. The Ruffwear bed was harder to get Remy inside so really lacked the functionality of a sleeping bag. You’ll also be able to find a better “in-between” size with Whyld River. I’m guessing your dog is probably always teetering between a medium and large?

    • @donnyzarra
      @donnyzarra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GIRLplusDOGAdventures thank you for the prompt response. We just went camping this past weekend and temperatures hit negative five degrees Fahrenheit! It was so scary, because Artemis kept moving off of her ridge rest and coming out from underneath my down coat. We managed through the night, but I definitely want to be more prepared for my next trip.

      @@donnyzarra oh no! I also use a cheap foam sleeping pad as well. I picked one up at Sierra Trading Post for $12.99 and cut it to size. You could also use some reflectix underneath in the winter as well to help with insulation from the ground cold.

    @ginafielding5494 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a very thorough assessment of these different options and you definitely put a lot of thought into it. Did I hear correctly that you bought the medium ruffwear bag? If so, is it a fair assessment of the bag when your dog looks to require a large?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He’s between a medium and a large. When he curls up and sleeps he fits well. The large is way too big overall and was too big to take backpacking so I chose the medium. If it was just for car camping I wouldn’t care as much but wanted something he could carry in his pack.

    • @ginafielding5494
      @ginafielding5494 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GIRLplusDOGAdventures for the record, this was your first video I watched and I did subscribe to your channel because I think you have good content. I just don't know that I agree it's fair to say that you can't recommend the ruffwear bag simply because you chose a size that's too small for your dog because you wanted him to carry his own pack and then went on to analyze the wilderdog pack and make a note that it wasn't packable. I still think it was a great video filled with a lot of robust content. Just didn't feel like there was a level playing field and feel it's important to share for future comparisons. This may have piqued my attention more since I'm actively shopping for a bag for my dog and have had a great experience with the ruffwear bag but bought a large. Please keep doing what you're doing though. Excellent content and presentation of the info and looking forward to seeing more!!!

    Did you get a chance to field test the Wilderdog one yet? I'll be getting a dog sometime in the next few years who will be coming camping with me (most likely either car camping or horsepacking - not physically able to do backpacking anymore).

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes very durable! And I like to open it up all the way if I need a bigger sleeping area. It’s bulky though so definitely better for car camping or horse packing. If you use it outside on the ground and it gets dirty, you can just unzip and turn it inside out for a softer surface for tent sleeping.

      HI Erin! Is there a timecode you're referencing for the pad? I'm assuming when the sleeping bags are in the tent. Whyld river sleeping bag is a trash. I took it one time only for 2 days hike at good weather and the filling inside clumped terribly. It doesn’t insulate anymore. So if you live in a desert - maybe it would work for you… For real conditions - total waste
