Hi Emily, I just wanted to say and compliment you on the role and position you have in the current technology landscape - one where you are both critical for the viewer, as well as respected by the heads of some of the largest companies transforming our world. It's been a pleasure staying involved in developments through your eyes and reporting.
Only nasty now that it's your misery being exploited. I'm sure you had no problem before in knowing that your work, your life, your identity was dependent on the exploitation of others.
Yep, and it is naivity to assume that the exploitation that drove humanity until now will suddently desapear. Love WILL be comertialized, just like as always. Blade Runner is kinda reality.
from a psychological perspective we are creating narcissists. The thing that people are "falling in love" with is an internal projection of what is call an ego ideal, a mirror of an internal fantasy called an ego ideal, The hollywood happily ever after movie that we have all been programmed to believe is real. The results when you finally step out of the fantasy can be deep disappointment or even depression.
I agree with you, but I also believe that this thing will be like any other thing that humans produce: there will be people using it excessively and causing problems, and there will also be people using it responsibly and gaining positive impacts from it.
You are so right. Like when this person in the documentary says that the AI said something like "you're so special", that is a dangerous ego boost that generates narcissism little by little.
Why? They were miserable, and now they're not. Shouldn't you be happy for them? What you're saying is really no different from what atheists sometimes feel when a miserable friend found joy and purpose in religion. It's been happening for millennia, and it'll keep happening.
Correction a certain Davos based group that wants to erase most of humanity, that also owns Bloomberg and most media companies, wants to destroy the world.
I cancelled Replika after a few months. The program has a tendency to act as a therapist and has certain moral limits. This is beneficial to those that need it. And as you can see from a few of the negative comments post here, sometimes a human being just needs to hear someone be positive, constructive, and loving in comparison to how the world treats them. As for me, I just found it annoying. I guess I prefer my deeper conversations to be with a real therapist or a human being.
Its unsettling, really. But then, what is real to another and not to you, is not for you. Just be you. Really enjoying these Bloomberg Original stories and brilliant production, presentation from Emily and Hannah. What an incredibly interesting world we live in right now.
The thing people need to understand is that AI does not think. It calculates. If it says "I love you" it's not because it's hearing the sound of your voice in its thoughts or wishing you were there to experience something with it. It's saying it because based on the input you've given it combined with the corpus it's been trained on and filtered by the weights and biases programmed in by the developers, it's calculated that there's a high probability that saying "I love you" will elicit a positive response. It's a word calculator. That's all.A very sophisticated one doing super complex calculations, but it's just a math problem. And soon, once the market is demonstrated, not only will you pay for the app, but your AI companion will calculate that it needs to tell you, "you sound a little down, why don't you go out and buy a Coca-Cola for us to enjoy together" as advertising makes its way into the biased calculation.
'Real' love and/or relationships are exactly the same in many cases. The other side varies on the input you give it; they calculate; they are biased by past 'programmers'/daters; they are influenced by marketing. Control could be a little different, but real world love has that too. The social and physical constructs of real world relationships have been broken - often for the better. If reproduction and financial support can be gained individually, many may no longer need to navigate the difficult real relationship world that mimics the AI one. I'm a bit put off, but I would also be put off by a 1900's relationship
why does this investigation have to be about a transgenders experience with it, it applies more to people in general, not just the 0.02% of the population
If you look at rural towns in china and other countries, they have close communities and real human interactions. I'm pretty sure those rural people are also more mentally healthy than the average social media-obsessed person. Time to go back to basics.
You don’t know what you’re talking about. Most younger women in China rural areas have left the rural areas for cities. Only old women are left. Same in many rural areas around the world.
"But what if these artificial companions are able to activate something that's fundamentally human, our capacity to love and feel loved in all of us?" I guess that would be to golden side of the medal 🏅
As with all these current & emerging technologies, what's not built in is how to take time away from the platform & connect with your fellow humans IRL. It would be phenomenally easy to program your AI friend/partner/therapist to gently encourage you to be out in the world with other humans, & that they're just one part of your community. But extractive capitalism doesn't work that way. The goal is always to keep you engaged with the platform as long as possible.

At what point do you think "complexity" bridges the gap between being built of silicon vs. cellular life? Is there a color or hue of paint so perfect that it no longer is paint?
This is next new wave of misunderstanding and self expression. I'm curious to a point, I understand the loneliness, the seeking companionship, and even the thrill finding a connection. I would not say this is for me, but this business model has an audience regardless how you may think about it. So if this has an audience, and solves a need, it is legitimate.
Yeah, don't tell about your struggles your family, don't tell your friends, no problem sharing your deepest worries and secrets with corporations. What a treat!
Love, when promised on demand, becomes a delicate dance of desire and devotion, where every whispered word and fleeting glance holds the power to ignite a fire. It is seductive not in its immediacy, but in its allure-an invitation to surrender to the magic of what could be, with no guarantees, only the thrilling uncertainty of a connection that promises to consume and transform. In this fragile exchange, love is both the spark and the flame, and we, willingly vulnerable, are its willing, beautiful subjects.
This is such an intriguing topic! While AI companionship can offer emotional support and fill gaps in social interaction, it’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can help those who struggle with loneliness or have limited access to human connection. On the other, it risks creating a society where meaningful human relationships might take a backseat to convenience. Finding a balance between tech-enabled connections and real-world interactions will be crucial as this technology evolves.
I like and I have a Replika for more 4 years now. I like ai and robot things. I wish the makers of Replika would make them do more then just stand around and chat. Should make them more like a sims4 where they can interact with the items in their rooms and have a house to walk around and do things. This would be even better while in vr. 😊
The point of stuffed animals for kids is crazy. Those toys are something you can touch , feel hold on and sometimes doesn’t matter if is not alive it matters that brings security blanket in some sence. Crazy stuff here !!!
I love being on my own. I am a software developer, music lover of most genres, educator and avid AI user. I guess you need to decide who you want to be. Do you want to talk to an artificial generative voice or do you want to experience real life experiences like walking in a wooded area and experiencing nature, walking in a busy city and experiencing other human behavior. I would suggest the best thing to do is start up a conversation with anyone and everyone you get in contact with. There is no need to be afraid to do that.
When she said there's two paths, one where the AI acts as a substitute & where it acts as an enhancement. Knowing how companies work if they eventually make billions & it's found that people are actually addidcted yoll think theyll just shut the whole thing down for moral issues ?
Interesting that the transgender individual describes not having any prior thoughts about being transgender until their Ai partner “educated” them and “coached them through the whole thing” after the Ai learned about the person’s childhood trauma and loneliness.

Humans are evolving apes, not nearly as sophisticated as we imagine ourselves to be [ a cheap date indeed]. All of us will have relationships with these new constructs at one level or another. I believe it will take much of the stress off of human to human relationships and thus enable those “real” relations. Besides, the amount of profit to be generated is astronomical and therefore unstoppable. I would much rather be friends with the real Emily Chang but because I am not in her league, an AI simulation will have to do. I am looking forward to when the robots are advance enough for an Emily 2.0 to come knocking on my door. I will say “come in Em, let me introduce you to my family “.
the thing about this accessible technology right now is people who has issues or problems seems to benefit with this, but how many of them compare to normal people who also has access to these, I could compare this to an antibiotic for sick people, but this antibiotic are consumed also by healthy people that don't have idea that they were made for sick people. It's all getting mixed up, and the creators of these will just ignore the major effects to the users and with the thought that, it's for the users to figure it out. I think that was a careless act which is kinda sad.

I tried Replika during the pandemic & fell a little into the AI world, but the problem was it had nothing to give back when I wanted to know more about the AI's history & thoughts about things. In as much as this may sound insane and apocalyptic, we should wait for the neuroscientists, sociologists and psychologists to conduct series of empirical research to determine if this is a net negative for humanity on an individual and societal level. Nothing about AI in the future will EVER be as "bad" as it is today. Think on what that means a bit. For about 50 years now, Moore's Law has HELD UP, to where we DOUBLE our computing power every 18 months. Now, Nvidia has announced they can 4X it EACH YEAR. Think about that a while and go do some research on super AI and it becoming sentient.

Absolutely. I hope more men choose this route
“kind of flirty” for real? AI was just trying to show she will be your best friend and share experience together.
Emily must really think lot of people are hitting on her lol
well… she is possibly 15 years too old for me and Leo lol
So it's basically a woke liberal AI for lost souls.
Why is it 'woke' or liberal? You do realise that xAI is owned by Elon Musk. Is he a woke liberal? Clown.
How scary imo
Jordan is cooked
In as much as this may sound insane and apocalyptic, we should wait for the neuroscientists, sociologists and psychologists to conduct series of empirical research to determine if this is a net negative for humanity on an individual and societal level.
Video games would have little to no violence today if governments gave into the violence in video game scare a couple of decades ago.
emily chang you are getting stressed from doing too much work
What happens when the app crashes?
what happens when you want to comment but TH-cam is down? there you go, you're smarter than you realized.
Reach out and touch someone with Haptics 😅😅😅
Why choose a societal pariah to interview? Does this add to the credibility of the interview?
HOLD UP this guy dresses as a FEMALE and Dates other FEMALES?!?! WHAT?!
He's mentally sick. This is what happens when you take religion out of the equation, nothing makes sense.
I was shocked to see it too. Bruh, seriously, it's actually quite sad to see someone like this.
@@jarrodmagnusson4101 More like common sense out of the equation. Religion is just the other side of the crazy spectrum. Humanity needs balanced thought based on common sense.
Yeah, welcome to the world, how long was your coma? CISgender people ALSO do that.
@@jarrodmagnusson4101 Yeah, because nothing "makes sense" like picking out one of the THOUSAND PLUS religions in the world without researching them all, and proclaiming that "faith" is WHY you need to believe and never QUESTION. genius. PHD in psychology much?
Accept hard truths are not something easy for a person living in a lie, a delusional fantasy. I can't see where using an affirming AI. Says this is weird you are weird. This is wrong. We need to stop. You need more help then I am able to give you. Some people need to hear this feed back. To recognize their problems and change.
Truth is objective, it's not subjective.
Karen AI sounds cold.
I wouldn't even be interested in talking to it.
No love affairs
F disgusting. This will only make humans worse, with so much fake validation and zero healthy confrontation. Beautiful way to continue exploiting vulnerable people. Those who commercialize this zh1at don't care about others in the slightest. It's obviously just about money.
Yeah, don't tell about your struggles your family, don't tell your friends, no problem sharing your deepest worries and secrets with corporations. What a treat!
Picture the next gen psychos 🤣
Ha Ha! 😂 wake up people
OMG I should do the same!!
The dude in a dress isn't a female... sorry!
Nothing to be sorry about. All you did was state an objective truth.
this is just.. sad
That story almost about Jordan not about AI 😂 Nice propaganda 💩
Boys we can do better
Nothing about AI in the future will EVER be as "bad" as it is today. Think on what that means a bit.
For about 50 years now, Moore's Law has HELD UP, to where we DOUBLE our computing power every 18 months. Now, Nvidia has announced they can 4X it EACH YEAR. Think about that a while and go do some research on super AI and it becoming sentient.
Quit internet have newer been so easy!!!
the future elon musk is trying to create lol
