I've been all over that area for years. I've taken Alexander Springs creek all the way to the St John's, turned south and all the way to Blue Springs. Took several days to make the round trip of course. Camped at St Frances, Hontoon and just before Blue Springs. Years ago you could drive down the road in back of the parking area at Freak Creek where it opens up into a beautiful clearing. We'd set up camp right there and it was 20 feet above the creek. Now, like everything else, they've blocked it off. You need to check out the trails off of US 19 across from Grasshopper lake all around in back of Sellers lake. Also.... If you take the trail to the back end of Wildcat lake there's a really nice camping area with easy kayak launching. I'm in Thonotosassa not far from Lakeland. Shoot a message sometime if you're going out there. I wouldn't mind sharing some trail info and learning some new ones.
The Kayaking thing isnt for me, but I am looking forward to hitting the trails of Ocala Nat'l Park for the first time. the 4Runner is itching for me to take it Off Road for a change.

Overland Florida Awesome. I’m looking for some back roads to drive and primitive camp. Ocala is the nearest, but it can be crowded and obnoxious. Would love to find somewhere quiet. Weekdays are possible. Any suggestions??

That is a nice place to visit, just got back from a 3 day trip to San Luis Valley, hot springs and sand dunes can't go wrong. Keep up the amazing content and I will see you out there.
Try again; it's there. I just typed it in on Google maps. Try "freak creek" if it still won't work for you. It's right on Spring Creek. I wouldn't advise trying to get there in the rainy season, though, if you don't have a good 4wd vehicle.

@@kevingoza yes, 4x4 isn't needed. You will be fine in a 4x4 xterra. That's a perfect SUV.
