      Of course you should. Vancouver has one of the mildest winters in Canada. Vancouver is often ranked annually as one of the most liveable cities in the WORLD! Houston isn't in the top 20 most liveable cities in the U.S. , while Baltimore ranks as one of the worst cities in the country.

      VINCE SAVAGE Teams don't stop being shitty until good players play on shitty teams. When Steve Nash went to the Suns, they were a shitty team. When MJ was drafted by the Bulls, they were shitty, same with Dirk and the Mavs, same with LeBron and the Cavs. Those players had fire and were true superstars because of the fact that they were willing to accept playing for lesser teams because they knew that they could lead and set the tone for the franchises. Steve Francis didn't have it in him and that's why he fizzled out of the league by 30.

    • @freakyfornash
      @freakyfornash 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@imaratspal Well the Suns were far from "shitty", considering they made the playoffs every year back then, and were also an annual title contender during the Charles Barkley era. That and Steve Nash didn't even begin to make his mark, and become an elite player until he was traded to the Mavericks, where he finally got playing time that he wasn't going to get with Kidd being the Suns top point guard at the time for that matter either.

    • @imaratspal
      @imaratspal 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@freakyfornash The Suns were one of the worst teams in the NBA the season before Nash went there as a free agent or do you have a different memory? You can try as hard as you can to spin it to help you sleep at night but the Suns were shit.

    • @freakyfornash
      @freakyfornash 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean the year the Suns drafted Nash in 96. But yes you're right about them being a shit team before they signed him (albeit did make the playoffs in 03, and pretty much tanked 04 to have cap space to sign him), if that's what you were referring to, and my bad in that case. But can you imagine if Vancouver had drafted him, what with the impact he'd have made there though, what with him being an actual Canadian for that matter too? He alone probably could have made that franchise decent, and saved them from moving in the process for that matter also!

      That was one thing which made many players (besides the league's dregs's who would literally play for any team no matter how horrible a place, and situation it was) wanting absolutely nothing to do with that city at all, along with it being a small market (when it came to NBA standards) in a far away land. I remember this. I'ts almost like when Rick Barry said he didn't want to play for any southern teams. Then added more insult to injury, when he ridiculed the way southerners talked, and their mannerisms, etc. He was very straight forward about that. Lol! Even though, I never really cared for Steve Francis that much. I can understand about the whole Mike Bibby being drafted the previous season part. Personally I wouldn't mind playing for Vancouver. The city is wonderful. Love their skyline, and there's plenty of culture, and great food all around, and etc. The winters are pretty mild also; surprisingly. At least compared to here in "cold ass" New York. Lol! Really love Vancouver. Great city.

      That’s funny about Rick Barry because he and his sons all retired in Houston which is as southern as it gets.
      As for Steve, I enjoyed his time in Houston. He was athletic and a pleasure to watch. He helped bridge that gap between the time Hakeem and TMac. It came apparent that you probably can’t build a team around him around 04-05 so when the news came rip that McGrady wanted to play in Houston I was all for sending Stevie over there.

Great entertainment, bigger population, multiple suburbs (Katy, Woodlands, and Pearland to name a few). You’re an hour away from the gulf coast town of Galveston for the beaches and already got a great environment. Vancouver’s a great city in terms of scenery with mountains and magic winters. • @KWCline91
    @KWCline91 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Two things come to mind on the trade from Vancouver to Houston.
    1) Vancouver made the mistake of drafting Francis. Not because he told them not to. But rather it was that the Grizzlies really had nowhere to out him after drafting Bibby, which he said in the video. If you had gotten someone else, then it could've worked out. But by picking Francis, you have two players that pose as dual-threat guards even though Francis was more athletic.
    2) The trade to Houston was great. But the unfortunate thing about the trade was the timing. Things weren't gelling with Pippen and Barkley, who was also retired and Hakeem was near the end of his career. Had all that been done earlier like in 1996 or 1997, he would've complimented the Rockets to greater heights and they could've reached another NBA Finals in the 1990's. But in the end, the old players went out and then came new talent that was good, but never elite like the Lakers.

If you stayed in Vancouver and accept that saying "this is where my destiny start, so let's do this and change this struggling franchise into a contender." You could be the face of Vancouver basketball and Memphis wouldn't gonna get a team in this days. So glad, you have a short career in the league.

    • @jonathanparker1774
      @jonathanparker1774 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You truly don't understand why tho. It's a different country...in addition to visas and that shit your basically paying taxes for two countries... It's why the NBA has never expanded into any other countries since then. Plus let's be honest the Grizzlies franchise in Vancouver sucked...Besides your logos and uniforms there was nothing redeemable about that franchise...I'm sure Vancouver the city is nice but that doesn't mean it'll be profitable for the NBA, You should blame the Front Office who drafted a player who said himself he did not want to play there...I mean it's a different sport but do you call Bo Jackson or John Elway selfish because they refused to play for the teams that drafted them with a high draft pick?

    I mean, we can sit here and say how Francis was an asshole or a selfish player or a baby for not wanting to play in Vancouver. And look - he was, even though I can understand why he wouldn't want to play in Vancouver...
    ...but come one, how much easier would the whole situation have been if the Grizzlies just didn't draft him? It wasn't look they had no idea and were blindsided after they drafted him. He told them he didn't want to play for them. It sucks, but at that point just pick another player, and it's not like the 1999 draft didn't have other good players: Baron Davis, Shawn Marion, Rip Hamilton, Lamar Odom were all top picks after Francis in that year's draft. There's not guarantee that any of them would like it in Vancouver and would stay past their rookie contract, but at least you have a chance of making it work with any of them.
