I must be REALLY OLD! I grew up through the 80's and got to love backpacks through the late 80's and early 90's. In those early days I was taught to KNOW WHERE THINGS ARE IN YOUR BACKPACK. So I never used packing cubes and never needed them because I know exactly where my gear is at all times and when packing, I put what I need either first or the most, within easy reach no matter what backpack I have ever used. Gear getting "lost" should be a thing "never heard of" if you know how to pack. Packing cubes are great and useful but should never be used as an excuse for lazy packing when one just throws things in the bag in any order. If you're wondering about my background, I learnt about packing a backpack in the army.
Partly depends on how much internal organization the bag has. I agree with you on larger objects, but when you’re dealing with smaller items, they need some kind of pouch or container
Man, really on the fence about buying this backpack after watching this video, it feels very poorly designed. The giant pocket in the front could have been made better by longer zippers, or maybe turning it into 2 large pockets instead of 1 big pocket. And put the Key Ring on the exterior of the soft pocket. I guess it really depends on what you plan to use it for. A jacket in the front makes sense. The sternum strap…wow. Terrible.
A j hook allows you to hang a bang off the front of the roll on. It works well for two wheeled roll-ons. Not all bags have them though. It makes the bag feel lighter and means you need to apply less pressure to get it to roll. I feel like most two wheel bags don’t come with j-hooks anyway. On the other hand luggage pass through an are better for four wheeled bags. I prefer a four wheel bag because it takes up less space in the airport, rolls easier, and puts less pressure on my elbow, so I value the luggage passthrough.

The Topo classic bag doesn’t have a sternum strap though, that killed it for me, but that’s an important feature for me.

Its a nice looking backpack. But man it doesnt look practical at all. And for $100+ it just doesnt seem worth it
Why don't they do travel/trolley sleeves. Shame. Won't be buying
