    He is clearly using jokes to try to deflect his feeling about it. During the serious moments he looks defeated. Humor can hide a lot.

      Probably was trying to not dwell on what he was about to say, so he joked to think of something, ANYTHING else until the light came on and he had to make the most humiliating speech of his life.

      I'm not surprsied, this is basically a taped recording, and this occurs before it goes live on TV. It was scheduled to air live around the time he makes the announcement. Either way, this is something to consider, as I have used this sample in my DJ gig openings, as a way to remind people that it's been nearly 50 years since this resignation speech has occurred back in the day.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robinorlowski9045 That's what they say. If you read Lillian Rogers Parks book 'Backstairs at the White House' President Taft told her when she was a little girl back in 1909 that he heard it was haunted. Supposedly, Eleanor Roosevelt told Bess Truman it was haunted as well. Although Harry refused to believe it and dismissed it as the house needing a 'good carpenter' to shore up the beams and floorboards.
      Nixon used to wander around in the middle of the night talking to the portraits of the dead presidents.

      Yes, dignity and integrity. This was a man who destroyed people's lives for political gain. Read up on his first senate campaign against Helen Douglas, the wife of actor Melvyn Douglas. He branded her a communist (she was not). He printed flyers on pink paper and said she was 'pink right down to her underwear' (a slight on her being not only a communist, but a woman). As president, he went after people who disagreed with him or was against him. People were targeted with unfair IRS audits. They were followed by the FBI. He had was was called his 'enemies list' and would issue directives every day about people, many in the media, who said things about him. There were the infamous 'plumbers' a secret group to investigate White House leaks. Then there was Watergate. Although there still is no evidence to this very day that Nixon himself ordered the break in, his aides did and when Nixon found out, he obstructed justice to cover it up. As for childish behavior, Nixon had this habit of literally 'growling' at people. He wouldn't say anything; just growl. He medicated himself with mind altering drugs and drank too much. He also beat his wife. So bad one time that she had to go to the hospital.
      Yet, you think this man was better than Trump????? 😂

    • @retroguy9494

      Courage? He resigned because he KNEW he was going to be impeached! I don't call that courage. I commend Clinton and Trump much more for hanging in there and going through the process. Most political analysts now agree that while Nixon would have been impeached by the House, no doubt about it, that he most likely would have survived the trial in the Senate.

    Given our very slimy and corrupt modern day politicians who think they are above the system and the law, especially those that have broken their own lockdown protocols for this current pandemic, I give President Nixon great credit for at least having enough integrity to leave his position of power.
