Thank you for helping us learn and grow, Pastor! GOD is great and LOVE is the more excellent way! There's always room to grow and improve and the scripture and the Holy Spirit are helping me do that. Amen! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I agree Brother Bagwell! More and more!! We need to Keep growing and conforming into His image! With His help! Be hot or cold! Not luke warm! But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. Thank you for sharing your Bible knowledge with us. Abba help us to Love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and our neighbors as our selves. Help us to daily take up our crosses and follow the Spirit where ever he leads us. Help us to turn away from the lusts of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride if life. Help us to have compassion on all those around us and to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. Also please increase our wisdom and knowledge concerning your Son and ability to communicate with others. Also help us to rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing and give thanks in everything. Furthermore precious Father, help us to watch and pray so that we don't fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing, but the Flesh is weak. Lord fill us to overflowing with your Holy Spirit. Spring up, oh well. Sing ye unto it! Lord please give us open doors to proclaim your Word! Let your Word go out, and not return void, but accomplish you purposes. Use what the enemy means for evil for Your Kingdom and Glory. Lord, you have all power and authority and the keys of hell and death. Lord please help the most amount of people to be saved according to your perfect will and timing and foreknowledge. Lord help the Israelites to know you again and to become stewarts of your Word again. Reveal your Son to them. Open their ears eyes and hearts. Show them that Jesus is their Messiah who was, is and is to come. Help us as your body to finish the works you have for us to do with you as the head and prepare others around us for your return. In Jesus name. Amen.
"God is love"! What an amazing Creator & God we have! Also, on this day of Thanksgiving, thank you, Lord, for your mercy towards our country. Praying for you, Brother Bagwell...
Great lesson on loving our brothers and sisters, our church family. God wants us to be connected with each other. God bless you, Bro. Bagwell and Sis. Debbie during this Thanksgiving season.
Amen, Preacher.... The Lord is teaching all of us through You even still today through your teaching. We Are Taught of God, through you Preacher..... Keep up your labour of love brother.....
This is a message of encouragement for me. Some people are hard to tolerate much less love. Maybe you need to love them but just can't tolerate them? i.e. the gossip, the hollier than thou, the know it all, the power seeker, ect. ect. At any rate a thought provoking class! *AMEN BROTHER BAGWELL* Hope you and Debbie enjoy your Thanksgiving Day Celebration
Excellent study, Dr. Bagwell! Happy Thanksgiving to you & Sis. Debbie! I pray for you both every day. These verses deal with our relationship within the church and body of Christ. Our next lesson we deal with those outside of the church (co-workers, neighbors etc.). These are inner-church relationships today. "Brotherly love"/φιλαδελφία/philadelphia/love in the way of Christ. Paul tells them that they are already loving each other. Earlier in the book Paul talks about their labor of love. Instead of rebuking them, he praises them. Paul says we are taught of God to love one another. "Taught of God" is the only time this is used in the entire New Testament. "Taught of God"/θεοδίδακτος/theodidaktos. The word "love" comes up 6 times in 89 verses. A total of 10 times the idea of love surfaces in 1 Thessalonians. That is over 10 percent of the verses in 1 Thessalonians. God wants us to love one another. Paul considers love the chief grace of the Christian life. See 1 Corinthians 13. See 1 John 4:16. God is love. See 1 John 4:8. God shared Himself with us. One of the many things that we are to do is to love one another. We are to pray for one another, we are to admonish one another (Rom. 15:14). "Blessed are the balanced". We should both love and admonish one another. That means we should warn one another. This means to put someone in mind. If someone is missing church, you should warn them and to put them in mind. God did not save us and drop us. He saved us and now He is teaching, guiding and directing us. Verse 10 tells us to love all the brethren. This means there are no favorites in the church. We should not hold back love from anyone. If they are brethren, we should love them everywhere, not just in our church. Macedonia was a district of the Roman Empire and included Philippi, Berea & Thessalonica. See Romans 5:5. God teaches us His love. God has shed abroad His love in our hearts. It is poured out in mega doses in our hearts. "Toward"/εἰς/eis/into. When people trusted in the Lord, John used this quite often to show that people believed "into" the Lord Jesus Christ. "Beseech"/παρακαλέω/parakaleō/encourage, urge, charge, call to the side to behave as the one you are beside. "increase"/περισσεύω/perisseuō/to bubble up, to overflow. "More and more" means that God is not satisfied with us staying where we are. See 2 Chron. 33:23. King Amnon sinned "more and more". See Psalm 71:14. We should praise the Lord more and more. See Proverbs 4:18. The path shines more and more unto the perfect day. If we walk in light today we will walk in more light in the future. See Isa. 1:5 & Hosea 13:2. See Phil. 1:9. Paul prays for their love to abound more and more. See 1 Thess. 4:1. Paul wants them to abound more and more. "As touching"/περί/peri. See 1 Cor. 7:1, 1 Cor. 8:1, 1 Cor. 12:1, 1 Cor. 16:1. "Now concerning" means he has further instructions. This is found a lot in Paul's writings. Paul is about to transition from love to holiness and sanctification. If we love the Lord like we should, we will be determined to live a dedicated and consecrated life to Him. One grace often attaches to another. Peter said to add to your faith, virtue, knowledge etc. They are reciprocal. There are 4 Greek words in the Greek language that deal with love. 3 appears in the New Testament and one does not. "Eros" which is sexual, sensual love. "Storge" is family love. (Romans 12:10) "Philos" means being fond of someone, a friend. "Agape" is God's love, unselfish love, unconditional love. See John 13:35. Love increases by exercise. How do we exercise our love? We love that one that is hard to love. See Hebrews 12:11. Great study today, Dr. Bagwell! Hope you and Sis. Debbie had a wonderful Thanksgiving today! God bless!
If I could make one minor suggestion, I think it would be nice to have an opening and/or closing prayer in your studies. I know you are limited on time though. Some of the students might be unable to fellowship any other way, and praying with others is one of my favorite things to do. Besides studying the Word. And praying privately. God bless you brother and may the Lord use you according to his perfect will, not according to what I say.
Thank God for that love and how He teaches us His love. Brother Bagwell have a blessed Thanksgiving... thank God for Jesus.
