Bowling For Soup's classic record, "A Hangover You Don't Deserve," celebrated it's fifteenth anniversary earlier this year and to celebrate a decade and a half of trucker hat-clad joy, BFS frontman/guitarist and chief songwriter, Jaret Reddick, gave #APTV a guided tour of the band's pivotal record.
Reddick discusses how he turned a story about a girl who moved to Colorado into a ballad against AP's home state of Ohio and reveals whether or not his brother actually "got the f--k out" of their hometown in this APTV exclusive interview.
Reddick also reflects on first hearing the eventual mega-hit "1985" and being completely oblivious to the song's potential and traces back the rewriting process of the track that ended up being an career-defining anthem for Bowling For Soup.

The fact that Jaret still hadn't been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the absolute cherry on top; love that it all comes full circle even now that he would STILL love to see the R&R HOF.
as of 2020 BFS is eligable to be inducted in the R&R HOF
Bowling for soup is one of those bands that has at least one song that everyone knows. And he was totally right about the concept of 1985, i went from having lame parents to being a lame parent sometimes lmao it just happens sometimes
AND that song is not even their original song ! "1985" was originally written by SR-71 band ! It's crazy !

I bought the CD for "1985" but my favorite is "Shut Up and Smile". Since then I have bought every CD available. Good songs make buying the CD a better deal than piecemeal.

I'm gonna be that hipster who has been listening to these guys since Let's Do It For Johnny. I saw them at warped tour in maybe 03 or 04 on the Ernie Ball side stage. I was one of maybe ten people but I sang along to every lyric and got a couple of their custom picks (I still have them). I'm 90% sure Chris was so hammered they turned off his amp and Jaret had to play all the parts. Afterwards I met them at their booth and put a dollar in their "beer money" jar. I've been a diehard fan ever since.

I have seen BFS twice now and they are fantastic! Love that band!
In my house I’ve a signed poster from a few years back when they played Ireland. I’ve an authentic film strip from their high school never ends music video with a signed poster. Chris gave me a guitar pick at one of their gigs that I have on the wall. I’ve seen them every time they’ve played ireland the last 10 years. Me with no you was my first dance song with my beautiful wife. Planned our honeymoon around when they where playing the house of blues in Orlando so we could see them there. I’ve talked to every member in the band a few times. They’re lovely people. Music is fantastic always cheers me up.
Bowing for soup has always been that band that i can go to when i am down and i listen to the songs and sing and have a good time and it just always makes me happy so thanks for that
Almost, 1985, My Hometown, Ohio....the list is endless....but shut up and smile is my favourite song off that album and in their entire discography.

1985 was the song that got me back into pop punk/punk rock, which ultimately got me to play the guitar. I dont know how my life would be if that didnt happen, so im really thankful

"Hangover You Don't Deserve" was the first album I had ever heard by Bowling for Soup, and to this day, it remains my favorite. But, I wish I still had the CD because if you put it into a computer, there was a video on it. And that was the coolest thing in the would to find in the early 2000's.
Nsync had that on their first cd
"I celebrate their entire catalog." Being from North Texas, I was introduced to BFS before the rest of the world...(That's right, I'm a BFS Hipster) and I introduced them to many people outside of the state when I moved to Arkansas at the age of 18 for college. I'm a 38 year old dad of three now and still blast A Hangover You Don't Deserve at full volume from time to time.
Our band would 100% not exist without this man. BFS and this record changed my life. Appreciate you Jaret!

I'm 47. I love all those bands and so do my adult children (20F, 21M, 24M). We are seeing MCR next month! They don't mind being seen with me and my purple hair. Maybe your daughter will stay cool. Lol

Hangover is a brilliant pop record.
I am pretty sure this is the first album I learned all the way through on drums (this or underclass hero from sum) but I will never not love any song off this album. These guys fucking rock man.
