About AleXa:
The daughter of a Korean adoptee, AleXa, also known to fans as Alex Christine, was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A lifelong dancer, AleXa competed in Soompi’s “Rising Legends,” where nearly 1 million fan votes determined her the winner. Shortly after being signed to ZB Label, she beat out thousands of contestant hopefuls and was one of the 96 chosen to participate in Mnet’s “PRODUCE 48,” the most competitive audition show in Korea. She's a good dancer of course but over dancing kinda looses the detailed moves, the crispness, sharpness ect. So I don't think everyone who said that is trying to hate on her.
yeah also the original artists practice the same song for months and get it perfect, their mentors point the wrongs and rights all the time, she probably learn these choreos from youtube or another dancer and that was it. People are criticizing her but support all the other covers from fans and they arent as good as she is... just proves people think celebrities are perfect divine entities and we're just mortals

You have to realize she is a solo artist, she HAS to outstand her backup dancers and to be able to perform ALONE. those songs were performed in groups, and the fact she made it seem like she didn't need a group to perform these songs is impressive

She performs each movement faster with longer pauses between movements. Since part of her body is almost always moving, you don’t notice the longer time between movement. A lot of moves are less fluid when she does them, but it makes sharp staccato dancing her forte
3:06 almost everyone i have ever seen do that move, including half of twice, doesnt manage to get the circular/twisting hip motion right, they just move forwards and backwards. not only does she nail it, but its such a simple alteration to the way most people do it - all she does is swivel her foot from her hip, and it just happens. she makes one of the hardest moves in kpop to pull off look easy as anything, and yet somehow shes still as underrated as she is.

she has a very unique dancing style. Not everyone dances like her.
She’s very hip balanced whereas most people are top or bottom balanced and so it makes her super satisfying to watch. It’s definitely unique and I like it.
even when she was on pd48, i just knew she was a phenomenal dancer. she’s not just a dancer its like theres more to her dancing 🤩 shes so good at dancing by judging from her pd48 days.

@@defiantaichi oh what I mean is that Alexa should definitely be invited to every major korean award show (since the exposure would be bigger and she deserves it) I am aware she has performed on some.
So far she's only been invited to shows where she's won an award (Soribada, Asian Artists). I think her feature with Sonnet Son on Immortal Songs 2 will boost her recognition in Korea quite a bit.

Literally one of the best female covers of boy groups I have EVER seen. A lot of girl groups while they are amazing dancers they don't necessarily capture the power that most boy groups moves possess. But alexa ate it upppp dear god

Agreed. I think it's because she started as a dancer (cover dancer even? Correct me if I'm wrong) before becoming an idol, so she doesn't dance in an 'idol' style, but more as a complete dancer, or a backup dancer, where she gets to hit each move harder, focusing on the feeling of the dance (whereas idol dancers are more controlled, focusing more on specific details and being in sync, etc). It's her own style, as you said.

Entertainment execs don't understand muscle vs fat. They don't understand the human body. They don't care. They only see the numbers, and when the numbers aren't the ones they want to see, they force reality to bend until they get the numbers they want; the consequences to actual humans (malnutrition, muscle loss) are irrelevant. Then when performance suffers, because the performers aren't getting the fuel they need to support their athletic dance workouts, the managers start browbeating the performers about that! Performers are, after all, eminently replaceable cogs in the universe of numbers.
Thankfully, ZB is much more reality-based than other labels. Odds are, back when they were founding their labels, Lee Soo Man and JYP were hands-on and caring about their talent. Adding middlemen, layers of bureaucracy, and guaranteeing income disconnected them from their roots.

Okay, I’ve tried to find the comments that say AleXa is ‘over-dancing’ but I can’t seem to, so perhaps they’ve been drowned out by the comments against this. Anyway, I have to say that I think she is definitely NOT over-dancing. I think she just has a lot of energy (in a really good way). When people over-dance, they tend to lose their body control and their movements become sloppy/incomplete. AleXa is SO in control - personally, I find her movements very precise and pleasing to watch. Her energy is still very high, even when she has pauses within the dance, making the sequence look smoother. Overall, I think she is such a wonderful dancer and performer💜💜💜
Why is no one talking about the fact HER HAIR IS CONSTANTLY OUT OF HER FACE when she MOVES HARD. She has her isolations DOWN! It’s so sharp and centered. She definitely knows the intent behind each song and interprets them really nicely. I love it

I remember when I started dancing, my hair was a problem, it got in my face all the time.
Now I’m the only one in my group that never gets her hair in the face.
It requires a lot of skill, but it’s really satisfactory to see and really useful when dancing.

The fact that Alexa is on the smaller side in terms of size, the way she is able to execute the moves to fit her body lines is something very commendable. I think her power style dancing is something very rare among female artists in the industry and I hope people can take notice of it. Some of you might regard it as over dancing but it doesn't look like a weakness, she does it because she has the stamina to do so and the effect is explosive from a performance pov.

I don't think there is such thing as over dancing. The only over dancing I know is when you keep dancing after the song has ended. All the Korean girls say that guy group dances are a lot harder than the girls group dances. Not for Alexa. She killed it. She doesn't hold back.

i only see comments like this, but not a single one complaining about it. and honestly i don't think she's overdancing i just think she's super powerful when she dances.
edit: i just rewatched it and she probably did have too much energy in some parts, but i don't think that's necessary bad. And that's just a constructive criticism, I'm not hating on her or complaining just saying my opinion. and I'm a dancer myself. So yeah no need to get mad or start a fight over it.
and i guess you want your artist to grow, than maybe you should not call constructive criticism hate, complaining or whatever. bc it's not I mean there's always gonna be some people who are unreasonably hating on people, but if people constructively critic you, you should look at it as an opportunity to grow. so by writing comments like this you're telling artist that even if their doing something wrong it's ok bc you're not gonna complain. instead maybe you could compliment them but also give them advice how to improve. Coming from a dancer, AleXa is an OUTSTANDING dancer. The energy she has is amazing, and her technique is just *chef’s kiss.* She’s not over dancing at all to those who think she is, she’s just using her technique: use lots of energy and control her movements amazingly. She’s probably one of the best dancers if not idol dancers that I’ve seen. Her moves are fluid yet sharp and radiate an impeccable amount of energy. How does such a tiny body give off so much energy? I don’t know, she really is a perfect all rounder. She dances like this with extremely hard choreographies while singing almost every note/word, rapping like the queen she is, and hitting notes higher than the sky.
I thinkthis corner of the studio was made for her. It makes her look taller and keeps her in the center. She excels in the "male" dances and kills the "female" dances. Amazing.

She’s good. She has good power, sharpness and isolations, and has great lower body control which makes for great footwork and legwork. She also has okay balance, good charisma, flexibility and is good at popping. She really suits hip hop dancing. Probably one of the stronger dancers of this generation (cause no one can reach Taemin and Hyoyeon level) but she defo lacks some precision cause she often overdances due to a lack of control in power and she struggles on anything aerial like jumps so her dance style is very grounded. Her main weakness is her use of her arms and hands (sometimes her lines aren’t defined properly and occasionally she doesn’t use her hands and so they are misplaced) excited to see her dancing journey as she grows as an artist 💃 keep it up!
I felt the same way :) thanks for articulating it so well! She has so much potential but I felt some of the choreo was lost when she puts in too much power and it loses the dynamic. She’s going to go so far!!

On point. She does overdance a lot. Unfortunately, this kind of messes up a lot of the non-boy group dances. This also doesn’t mean she’s not good, she’s great! She just has things to work on.
