When I was younger I believed what you are saying. I do agree when it was about non violent unity he was not a real threat and had support of the government, although he was being monitored by the feds, and when he spoke out against the Vietnam war, poverty and working conditions they took him out due to him being too powerful a leader to be out of pocket. But I wouldn't compare him to the "hope sellers" of today because he spoke out against injustice no matter despite political ramifications.

He wouldn't be out of a job at all. He teaches at Princeton and I doubt there are many (if any) poor amongst the students there. So he's doing this so more poor people will have the opportunity to send their children to institutions such as the one he teaches in. So the poor people in the street can be rich in the classroom. If there were no poor, then he would be a professor quietly collecting his salary.

Too Big to Jail: How Prosecutors Compromise with Corporations Hardcover - November 3, 2014
    by Brandon L. Garrett (Author)
American courts routinely hand down harsh sentences to individual convicts, but a very different standard of justice applies to corporations. Too Big to Jail takes readers into a complex, compromised world of backroom deals, for an unprecedented look at what happens when criminal charges are brought against a major company in the United States.
Federal prosecutors benefit from expansive statutes that allow an entire firm to be held liable for a crime by a single employee. But when prosecutors target the Goliaths of the corporate world, they find themselves at a huge disadvantage. The government that bailed out corporations considered too economically important to fail also negotiates settlements permitting giant firms to avoid the consequences of criminal convictions. Presenting detailed data from more than a decade of federal cases, Brandon Garrett reveals a pattern of negotiation and settlement in which prosecutors demand admissions of wrongdoing, impose penalties, and require structural reforms. However, those reforms are usually vaguely defined. Many companies pay no criminal fine, and even the biggest blockbuster payments are often greatly reduced. While companies must cooperate in the investigations, high-level employees tend to get off scot-free.
The practical reality is that when prosecutors face Hydra-headed corporate defendants prepared to spend hundreds of millions on lawyers, such agreements may be the only way to get any result at all. Too Big to Jail describes concrete ways to improve corporate law enforcement by insisting on more stringent prosecution agreements, ongoing judicial review, and greater transparency.

@@antoniooriordan4165 Yes. I have a general take on leftists. I am a reformed leftist and now think that it should be listed in the DSM 5 as a mental illness.
A guy like West, in search of a color blind, race blind, ethnicity blind country, obsesses about these classifications and injects race, color, etc. into every issue.
It is the biggest hypocrisy I have seen and the ones that suffer are the ones the leftists purport to want to elevate. The fact that their ideologies, are the ones that have been used to end poverty and segregation and desperation have not worked at all. A leftist never looks at the results. They don't care. They support riots over about 10 unarmed blacks being killed by police each year and ignore the 5,000 blacks killed by blacks in the streets each year. They create bogus groups like BLM and ignore the thousands of deaths by gunshot of black Americans.
They stand for bizarre policies which open our borders to millions of illegal aliens, and call them immigrants. They create a crisis at a border that was finally being more reasonably controlled. They lockdown cities to curtail the spread of Covid but allow thousands of illegal aliens to come in from Mexico where the pandemic is blazing.
Cornell West is one of these useless leftists. How did Cornell West do so well in this country if it is so affected by racism and oppression and inequality?
I suggest you keep on listening and remain in your leftist misery. One day your Marxist Utopia might come.
West might as well just say, knick knack paddy wack give the dog a bone. If the glove dont fit you must acquit.

They think that he is super smart and must represent their side. Their side? Have nothing but negative things to say about these incredible United States of America. One thing they don't know is what life is like in most foreign countries. They blame America first and show they have no gratitude for this country which offers them endless opportunities. They think they are so enlightened and progressive but are in reality totally uninformed regressive. We need a program to throw them out and replace them with people from foreign lands who can only dream to come to America and to become American cities. Our country would immediately be a better place.
