maul is exactly how I wanted it, better less puffy tailoring, less squashed sculpt without those weird indented lines around the tattoos, brighter red, and its my favourite character. luke is a cop too

Dark Empire was a comic from the early 90s produced by Dark Horse when they had the license. In that story, the Emperor had managed to clone himself and had corrupted Luke to come to the Dark Side. Leia brought him back to the Light Side and they both defeated a young, cloned Palpatine.
They should have made this instead of the ST.
I'm hyped for a 2.0 Maul. One of my favourite characters and I think this 2.0 is incredible.

The sculpt is based on the 1995 Dark Empire graphic novel cover version of Luke, a very idealized Mark Hamill. That was the version I was familiar with, the covers of the original comic book versions from 1988 are a lot more cartoony.
Dark Empire was a very popular comic series in the early 90’s. It had two follow on sequels, but the gist of the story is the Emperor tries return via clone bodies and Luke joins the empire undercover to understand the plan. He starts to succumb to the dark side and Leia helps bring him back and he defeats a resurrected Palpatine.
Was actually pitched in the late 80’s to continue the continuity following ROTJ. It restarted the SW comics as well. Great read and highly recommend it

@equos5060 I wouldn't say there was much artistry going into the Chewies we've got so far. It was poorly done. But since it's all we've gotten so far it's the "best" we've got. We definitely need a Artisan Chewie with hand applied hair for the headsculpt.

For the first time as a new collector, I’m feeling that 2.0 frustration. Paid about $500 for my OG Darth Maul and that was with no speeder bike. Debating on selling it to get this new one

I am just thrilled to see SW Comic and Legends figures.
Even though the new Luke figure may not have Mark Hamill's likeness, I still love it anyway. Luke Skywalker has always been my favorite Star Wars character ever since I was a little lad.
MUCH better! I was never a fan of the DX16. The head is too squat, the face too wide, the eyes look nothing like Maul in TPM (too wide apart, likeness off - making him look more CGI than live action), the body too stocky. I sold the figure within hours of receiving it, opting to stick with the Sideshow Battle on Naboo figure; still one of their best figures imo. This rectifies everything that was wrong with the 1.0 and looks to be yet another great 2.0 from HT. My only nit, and this is purely subjective, but I would have loved to have seen the gnashing of the teeth expression, the image I see in my minds eye whenever I think of Darth Maul.

I’m no fan of SW ,but today it’s everywhere lol.
So, i saw some memes people made with the Darth Maul figure and decided to show in the group chat with my friends ( who are not collectors ,but like SW) . And one of them ,when he saw that figure was stunned lol ,refuses to believe it’s a figure 😅.
Darth Maul is my favorite character. I have all of the previously released figures. The Hasbro 12” figure with speeder, the exclusive edition of the first Sideshow figure, the 2.0 Sideshow figure and the 1.0 of the Hot Toys figure. I also have the Figuarts Darth Maul and nearly every Black Series release of the character.
I don’t have the Hot Toys Solo Maul or the Clone Wars release, but I would say I have more than enough concerning the silver screen legacy of the character.
All of that to say that I reaaaaally don’t think they should be forcing a 2.0 on us without the option to also just upgrade the heads on the 1.0 figure. The full release is great for people that passed on the original figure, but for those that do have that figure, we would have preferred an upgrade kit with the two heads and probably a belt.
I firmly believe that the heads will be entirely interchangeable between the 1.0 and 2.0 figures. So, that’s going to be a slap in the face, when it comes out. And eBay is already getting flooded with people dumping their Hot Toys 1.0 Darth Maul figures. I want to get rid of mine, but almost guaranteed to take a significant loss on it by the time this stupid thing comes out.
Maul is coming home.
I didn't think it was possible, but the "Chestnut Hair" crown now goes to Dark Empire Luke (sorry, sculpted Han Solo!)
With everything else coming out, im happy with my original DX Maul. Cant justify all those hundreds just for a slightly different face. Easy pass for me for everything else too.
